View A Gallery Of Alternate PlayStation Move Designs Trademarked By Sony

By Ishaan . October 6, 2011 . 1:35pm

The designs you see below are alternate designs for the PlayStation Move, registered by Sony in the European trademark database. Looking at the various images, we assume the dotted areas — such as the square on top in some and the grips in others — are to indicate areas that weren’t finalized.

The other thing that’s interesting about these designs is that the filing date for them is after the PlayStation Move was launched.

Hahaha, this is all so cute. It really looks like something you’d hold up during a magical girl transformation scene.

Also, the ones near the bottom look like satellites. :3

The majority still look like dildos used in JAV.

I wish the PSmove just had a sensor bar or something, i don’t really like the huge “head” of the controller.

    • danhese

You realize that huge “head” is what makes it a lot more accurate and track in 3D space right?

      • Suicunesol

Wiimote+ doesn’t have a ball like that, and it’s supposed to be very accurate too right?

        • danhese

Motion plus adds a gyroscope that the Wiimote lacks so in theory, it should work better because it has a lot more degree of tracking but not many games utilize it to its full potential.

not to mention nintendo is trying their best to phase out the wii.

          • http://twitter.com/hiimweilun Tan Wei Lun

But you said ‘everything on the market’ As far as I know the Wii remote and the Move are the only two physical motion controllers out there right now. And what I said is true. These were taken from interviews made when the Move was announced. Move is confirmed to be great at tracking but they lack in pointing because their ball is, well, a ball. It’s not a single point, but a wide, circular area. Which makes pointing harder to track. The Wiimote however only has a infrared emitter inside the controller but no gyroscope or anything which is why they’re great at pointing but suck at tracking. Really, no controller is perfect and you have no right to burst out in fits of anger about it.

I really don’t like it when people say I get defensive and little-minded when all I want is to reply to have a discussion. What’s your problem getting mad at people who reply? Are we NOT supposed to reply? Why do you think Siliconera added the ‘reply’ button? For looks?

If you started name calling when people try to make nice discussions, you’re bound to get a reply. What you need is temper management. You are a very rude person. I blame the anonymity of the Internet for your rude behaviour. After all I’m sure you’re a really nice guy in real life. Hopefully.

PS I’m not ‘compelled’ to do anything. That word is used by actual defensive people to people THEY accuse of defensiveness. I’m just stating what’s right. And, no. I don’t have a Wii. And, yes. I work in motion capture at a small film studio, so I guess I have SOME credibility.

WTF is wrong with you? Do you pick and choose what to understand instead of putting it in  context?
“But you said ‘everything on the market’ As far as I know the Wii remote and the Move are the only two physical motion controllers out there right now”

No i said anything and again for the last time “not here to argue with you or convince you that Move looks or works better than anything in the market” In other words, im not here to argue with anyone about what looks better or works better, im not to argue that move is the best in anything. Are you blind or something or do you lack basic cognitive ability to understand this few “IM NOT HERE TO ARGUE” sentence.

WTF is true, taken from what interview exactly? I’ve shown you  a bloody video of the camera using move as a tracker as the little girl paints. I think you got it backwards man, the bigger the tracking surface, the easier it is to track and because the ball glows, it means the camera can track it in the dark as well. Have it you way man and dont fucking reply back to me again if you feel compelled to reply.

The fact that you jumped to the opportunity to say Wii tracks better than Move without even properly understanding what i was talking about actually means you are little minded and felt compelled to defend something i didnt even say anything about. I pretty much said i wasnt here to defend the superiority of move against anything in the market. Does that in any way mean “Move is superior than anything in the market”? That is why i said you are little minded. FYI you said  i was a douche and i actually didnt take offense to that btw.

i can’t help but asking..u from engadget? your pretty famous over there. gonna troll up siliconera too?

          • danhese

I’ve been reading articles from siliconera for a long time but i didnt really participate in comments.

          • danhese

And i dont troll, i only comment on things that interest me. I hate it when people make stupid snarky comments on articles that i read. Things like, this looks stupid when clearly it doesn’t or comments like that particular product works better than this when clearly it doesnt.

      • Guest

It still looks dumb and because of that ball and lack of sensor bar/ir its pointer is extremely inferior to the Wii remotes.

        • danhese

Lol. okay if you say so, not here to argue with you or convince you that Move looks or works better than anything in the market.

          • http://twitter.com/hiimweilun Tan Wei Lun

really? you’re going to say that?

the move is unparalleled in movement tracking with that ball.
the wii remote is unparalleled in pointing with the sensor.

this is why the wii had the motion plus.
this is why the move will never see a resident evil: darkside chronicles remake.

“okay if you say so, not here to argue with you or convince you that Move looks or works better than anything in the market.” the way you phrased that comment, you sounded like a massive d-bag. you’re just asking for people like me to comment.

          • danhese

People like you are idiots, what i said was i wasn’t here to argue with him or convince him that Move was better than anything in the market, meaning im not here to tell him what looks better or what works better in fact, i never mentioned anything about Wii, i simply made a factual comment that the ball on the move makes move a lot more accurate and track in 3D space in response to the commenter above wanting Sony to remove the ball from the design. Taking away the ball takes away its ability to track in 3D space and now he replys to me saying how move looks dumb and how its pointer is extremely inferior to Wii mote.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HYyFvBqKfQ4 Seems to be tracking the ball as a pointer very accurately to me doesn’t it?

So capcom told you PS3 would never see a Resident Evil: Darkside Chronicles because move is “inferior pointer to the wiimote”?

People like you feel compelled to reply because you are little minded and whenever you feel like your consoles of choice is being attacked you feel compelled to say something.

  • Tom_Phoenix

“Before it was finalized, the PlayStation Move was designed in all sorts of odd shapes.”

Considering they ended up using a “snow cone” shape for the final product, that seems preety much par for the course.

  • http://twitter.com/#!/Leafy_Cam Leafhopper

I like the cube one :P

  • nyobzoo

    some of them…wow

  • http://myfigurecollection.net/collection/ashgail Ashgail

The alternate designs define the word ‘weird’. An american football ball on top of a controller? Wow. I kind of liked the second last design. It looks like a tokusatsu prop.

  • http://twitter.com/matty_125 matty

The last one looks like a sad chicken looking out a small window :(

So, are the ones with the screen outlines were supposed to be.. screens or something? As cool as that seems, it seems very pricy. Maybe something they could have used for 3D support, but that’s just me thinking crazy.

    • Chow

I see your chicken.  But it also looks like a contented log with a nose and a double-chin.

  • http://twitter.com/Cudgeon Raji

lol for the double-dildo and knuckles one :P

  • Mister_Nep

Errm….some of those definitely don’t look like something that would realistically make the cut. My dirty mind is going nuts with these.

  • Okuni-chan

I want the diamond shape! XD
