Final Fantasy Type 0 Will Tell A Different Story The Second Time Around

In Japan, Square Enix run a manga magazine imprint titled GanGan, which consists of various individual magazines such as Monthly Shounen GanGan and Young GanGan. Both Fullmetal Alchemist and Soul Eater were serialized in Monthly Shounen GanGan.

 

According to tweets picked up by Japanese blog, Game Jouhou, a new GanGan issue contains information on Final Fantasy Type-0. According to director, Hajime Tabata, the average time to complete Final Fantasy Type-0 the first time is about 40 hours. The second time you play the game, you’ll get to experience a different story involving the game’s Class 0.

 

Tabata also mentions that there’s an unrevealed thirteenth character in Type-0, and that there are a total of five summons types in the game. We know of six summons so far: Golem, Shiva, Bahamut, Odin, Ifrit and Diablos.

    Um, I assume you meant there are 6 summons, and we know 5, right?

      No no. Odin is the sixth, I just forgot to include him. We know of six summons, but it appears there are five summon TYPES. That’s what we understand, anyway.

      Odin is the sixth that we know, in the demo there are different slots for each summon but they were all empty, I’m guessing this is what its referring to

      They (He) did say types which I assume means that each summon will have five different movesets or something along those lines.

    Why is Soul Eater mentioned in the past tense, it is still in monthly shonen gangan, 90 chapters now.

    Anyway, between this and Versus XIII, Ive never been more excited for FF. Thats a good incentive to replay.  Why does class 0 make me think of Bleach 0 Squad, heh.

    Interesting, I hope it adds new layers of depth to the story like Nier did. And I can already see myself playing this game multiple times anyway D: I got more play time in the demo than I do a lot of standalone games.

    A thirteenth character, perhaps taking the number 10 spot?

      I too, wondered about that number 10 spot.  I kinda assumed that Machina or Rem would take that spot as the story progressed but a totally new character would be way better ^_^

      I didn’t even know the 10th spot was unfilled :O I just kinda thought Cater (Kate :|) filled in the position.

      I’m glad we can replay without having to go through the New Game+ system (unless you count this but differently)

        Ace(1), Deuce(2), Trey(3), Cater(4), Cinque(5), Sice(6), Seven(7), Eight(8), Nine(9), Jack(11), Queen(12) and King(13). All their names refer to a specific number, and they are lined by that order on the game’s status screen. Also, I’m not be prolific in many languages, but Cater does not sound like ten in any language I know, and it sounds a lot like four in the romance languages (quatro in PT and ES, quatre in FR, quattro in IT and patru in RO). I still don’t know if it’s an actual word in some actual language though.

          I think it is just four in some other language. As for which, I forget, but I recall somebody telling me before.

          I knew about the numbers and everything of the sort; was just saying that character spotwise I thought she was the last to be revealed >w<

    Hurray for replay value XD.  Type-0 just keeps getting better and better the more I hear about it.

      Indeed.  I’m finding myself playing through a lot of RPGs multiple times these days (currently replaying XIII in anticipation of XIII-2 as well as Persona 4) so its icing on the cake to experience new story the 2nd time around.

        What has Square Enix done recently to actually make you concerned about the localization of a Final Fantasy game such as this?

          It’s not about Square, it’s about the state of the PSP itself.

            I’ve gotten the strong impression from Yoichi Wada that addressing overseas markets is a high priority.  Furthermore, the game was made with foreign gamers in mind. The state of the PSP doesn’t cause me any worry in this situation so i’ll be shocked if Square Enix doesn’t localize this in some form.

            Made with foreign gamers in mind really means that IF it should see release in the West it has elements that Western gamers are expected to enjoy, not necessarily that we WILL see it. Oversees markets being a priority doesn’t mean that overseas PSP markets are a priority.

            You may not see it as a concern, but surely you’ve noticed that publishers have all but abandoned bringing games to the PSP. It’s not a sure thing that we’ll see this, especially given that its release — IF if sees one at all — would more than likely be after the Vita comes out. That was no problem with publishers putting DS games out in the wake of the 3DS (in the West), but that’s because the 3DS had a small wake. The PSP is in the opposite situation — it’s on life support with a system that is forecast to sell better coming to replace it.

            Don’t get me wrong — I want this to come West more than anything (since Level-5 already confirmed my prior most-wanted JPN title), but I’m not about to get my hopes up based on what Squenix has said or done. That was then, this is now.

            I’m sure it will be released in some form as well.  Though to me it seems like SE has found themselves in a catch-22 kind of situation.  They’ve got a game supposedly developed with western audiences in mind on a platform that westerners largely don’t buy games for (the remaining people who DO care about PSP are just a huge percentage of pirates by now).  Then again I don’t think this game is all that “western” anyway, actually, it just looks like a good, high quality game.  But in any case, western appeal or not the PSP situation is not the best.

        A shame if true.  I really think Valkyria Chronicles could’ve/would’ve done better in the long run if they kept it on the PS3.  Word of mouth has a way of slowly, yet steadily building recognition and fandom of a brand.

    Or will the second playthru be a CONTINUE+?

    I’m still furious they won’t localize the third vakyria installment. Somehow games like BRS (not to say I don’t enjoy them, STOKED for Black Rock Shooter) end up being localized but not the third installment of a fairly successful series? It’s the same with the KH final mixes and BBSFM. Like C’mon pick your battles people!

        Sorry i guess I didn’t relate it specifically enough for you, it was just an afterthought from reading other comments on this article when people were mentioning that we should be hearing about localization for this game anytime now, but we have yet to receive the news (hoping that it gets localized at all).

          Ah. Well, to respond to what you said then, Valkyria wasn’t a successful series and that’s why we aren’t getting 3. It sold well on release, yea, but it didn’t sell enough for them to justify bringing 3 to America’s near-dead PSP market.

    Not that I want this, but what if Rem dies and Machina goes to the dark side after. So with the two of them gone, a void in the cast needs to be filled, and it ends up being the new character. I hope it’s a cool new one, but I bet it’s the shot girl who sells supplies and where’s that french lookin’ hat (beret).

      Well, Rem does die. She is shown dying on the most recent trailer. Machina also becomes a L’cie in it.

        So then Machina will be the first to ascend to Agito status then. But does she really die? Would they really show something so important now? People complained already that too many spoilers were released about 13 and 13-2.

          Well, no one said anything about L’cie and the Agito being related, so it can still not be him. But yeah, they already showed a lot of mid to late game spoilers of Type-0 ever since the first trailer, like Izana(Machina’s older brother) dying and the school and the Suzaku crystal being destroyed. But the way Rem died was pretty similar to Izana’s, so I actually expect that she dies for real.

            maybe they don’t see ‘em as spoilers since there’s so many BIGGER secrets still left covered. Plus people scream for info, they gotta give ‘em something over they’ll say “I heard this already!” or “All they show is gameplay!”

        That’s sort of weird because if I understand correctly, you can choose to play as Rem or Machina….so what happens when she dies? You can’t play as her any longer? Sort of silly to give us a choice of protagonist if halfway through you can’t use them any longer. :|

          Well, this is not new for Final Fantasy. They’ve been doing that since at least the fourth game. At least on this one you’ll still have another 13 characters to control.

            I know characters die in Final Fantasy, but what’s weird here is that the supposed protagonist dies (which, has never happened before and for obviously reasons). It would be different if it was one of the class 0 characters because they aren’t one of the protagonists and so your frame of reference doesn’t change if they were to die. Ok, what I’m trying to get at is this: why give the player a choice of main lead if that choice will be meaningless half-way through the game? That is what I find weird. If they want to kill off Rem, why not just make Machina the sole protagonist with no choice from the players as who they want to see the game unfold through. I hope my shock and confusion is now better explained. :)

      I don’t know if you’re serious but I for one like that kinda thing. Properly executed a character like that can be a total badass. It’s just that people have seen it so much before that you might catch some heat bring that up now. 

      But remember everybody: Even a frilly pink dress clad girl can be an interesting character with a with a great personality and a cool fighting style or backstory.

    Oh, I do so love me some extra story with my New Game +. I wonder if this too will involve time travel/alternate dimensions, or if it will simply be one set of events that happen simultaneously with the first playthrough, and we’re just not aware of them up until then.

    If that’s the case… I wonder if the first playthrough will have many moments which won’t make sense until you play the second play-through… do not know if want, then.

            Agito as “to cause to move” is Latin. Kamen Rider Agito uses it in the sense of “Humanity moving forward,” and the usage you mentioned is much the same thing.

        If it is, I haven’t seen it around much. Last game I recall having New Game + (that I played, of course) was Lords of Shadow. And that was the first one in a while that had it.

      Since the vita will come out before type-0 in the U.S. I’ll probably be playing this game on the vita too.

        But this game is on UMD and the Vita only uses some kinda cards and downloads from PSN. Also Vita won’t hook up to TV screens as the developer said he’d like for gamers to experience this game. I hope it comes over on PSP as the last great PSP game other than Ys Seven and KHBBS.

          That’s all fine and well, but he didn’t really say anything about any of that. He’s likely assuming that a downloadable version would be available should this reach the US. A fine assumption since they said it’ll be available on PSN in Japan on day one.

            I have a lot of games to my PSP, if the Vita won’t play any of them, do I’ll be forced to keep my old PSP even when it starts to breakdown. Why’d they have to change everything with the Vita? People will basically have to buy all the games they have physically AGAIN electronically and that’s only IF they come out on PSN.

            That’s life though. Not every PS2 game is playable on PS3. It’s the same situation there.

            I feel your pain, but sometimes you just have to make due. Personally, I’m going to hold onto my PSP until Squenix gets all of their games (read: Crisis Core and BBS) on PSN. After that? Won’t need it.

    This game is the first Final Fantasy-something I’m really excited about in years :)

    Can’t wait to hear more about its localization (be it as a PSP game, PSVita port, PS3 Remaster or whatever).

    SQEX, this game looks infinitely more intriguing than FFXIII-2 and the trainwreck that is FFXIV – WHERE IS TYPE 0′S NA/EU RELEASE DATE?!

    Question: If Rem and Machina are the main focus, least with the main playthrough, then why was Ace made the face of the game for so long? Is he the most important of the rest of the students? Or is it because the game is geared toward toward Europeans so they wanted a caucasian face to be the first seen? Or was he just the first made? Or was it just random?

    I only ask cause I like him as far as I’ve seen but he seems pushed in the background these days. Especially compared to Rem, Machina, and Queen.
