Youkai Watch Is Another New Level 5 Franchise

Level 5 have announced a new game at their Level 5 Vision conference in Tokyo. The game is titled Youkai Watch, and no platform for it has been specified. Like Level 5’s other franchises, Youkai Watch will be a multimedia project that extends beyond just games.

The trailer for Youkai Watch depicted a character with the ability to see and interact with ghosts. He can also use his ghost to battle against other ghosts as well.

Looked like a spectral version of Pokemon. Has potential though.

Oh and the game footage they showed looked pretty fluid so this has to be for an HD platform. PS3 or WiiU is my guess.

When I first saw the title, my wild guess was that it’d be some kind of Japanese adaptation of Bernard’s Watch. Turns out I was completely wrong!

Level-5 isn’t the same company anymore, so I see little reason to expect RG2 – unless Sony were to beg them to makee the game while forking out the required funds.

They’ve moved onto far more profitable things aimed at a different demographic (mixed media IP for kids). They’re also their own publisher.

If SquareEnix can still get them to make a Dragon Quest game, I’m sure Sony could get them to make a Rogue Galaxy game. Level-5 made White Knight Chronicles not too long ago for Sony too, so it isn’t a matter of can’t or won’t. The thing is, I don’t think Sony really cares about Rogue Galaxy and with the IP belonging to them, the ball is clearly in their court.

Also before anyone jumps on me. I only saying it how it is, especially because I see a lot of finger pointing at Level-5 when clearly they cannot do anything with the franchise alone. Nor should they be required to lower their price. Again, if Nintendo and Square Enix can afford them, I can’t see why a big conglomerate like Sony can’t.
