Create Your Own Potions In The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword

Create Your Own Potions In The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword

Another one of the new features in The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword is the ability to create your own potions. Similar to Twilight Prinecss, you’ll be able to collect bugs in different areas. You can then infuse these insects with various potions that you uy at the Bazaar in Skyloft.

Combining different insects with different potions has various effects, none of which Nintendo have specifically detailed, but they say you can experiment with different combinations to find concoctions that best suit  your needs.

We also know a little more about Lake Floria, which was revealed to be one of the areas in Skyward Sword this past week. Lake Floria is an undiscovered section of the Faron Woods, and is inhabited by the Parella tribe, a race of squid-like creatures.

Using Lake Floria as an example, Nintendo say that even when you revisit past areas in Skyward Sword, you’ll find drastic changes to the environment and find new ways to explore.

Another area briefly touched upon is Fun Fun Island. This place is in the sky, located near Skyloft. There’s fun to be had here, but first, you have to complete a mysterious quest for its sole inhabitant.

Food for thought:

While Gorons are accounted for, there’s been no mention of the Zoras as yet. Perhaps they inhabit another water body in Skyward Sword?

I’m loving how creative the game looks. That’s probably the nicest level design i have seen this entire generation.

aw but it’s not HD! lol just kidding ,yes it’s wonderful really, I love this visual style and wonderful level design!

Maaan, i hope this game is huge and long! Kind of windwaker, I beat twilight princess so fast T___T

I need more customizable potions. Ever since discovering the joys of Intelligence potions stacking-spamming in Morrowind, I haven’t been able to enjoy any other alchemy game anymore. There’s just no point when you can’t get your INT in the millions in a matter of minutes.

So if they can make stat-boosting potions in Zelda, that would be great. To be honest, regular life and magic potions are kinda useless anyway.

I’m betting the Parella tribe are the ancestors of the Zora

this game looks like it’s shaping up to be GOTY, i just hope they ramp up the difficulty. Also i hope creating new potions and upgrading your equipment are ACTUALLY useful in this game.

I have been thinking the same thing. If this is one of the first games in the history. Some of these races would not exist yet or be different in some way.

    • Suicunesol

I would agree, but the existence of the Gorons throws a wrench in that theory, unless Gorons didn’t change much over the course of history.

      • http://twitter.com/ifarah12 Gren

Maybe there’s an event that happens in Skyward Sword that causes the Parella to adapt, then over the years we get Zoras

    • kahoseclipse

My thoughts exactly, especially since there was no sign of Zoras in the opening sequence, even though there were representatives of all the confirmed races. And Suicune, I think Goron’s not changing much through the ages would go well with their charcterization as essencialy rock-people and, like mountains, more resistant to the effects of time. Also, it wouldn’t be the first time we see something like this- in WW, Zoras had become Ritos, but Gorons were still Gorons.

I’ll go ahead and say it, I rarely used potions. When I have a bottle I mostly used them for fairies and side quest items.
They offer some compelling RPG elements in this game (I’m a sucker for item creation systems if collecting items are fun for me), it’ll be rude for me not to make use of potions here.

Yeah, last time I used a potion was Link to The Past. And that was a magic potion, not health potion.

This game looks better and better, Nintendo is truly delivering their all with this Zelda game of the past decade. Day 1!

  • Suicunesol

That’s a pretty awesome Scimitar in that first screenshot. Looks like weapon stealing is back. Probably won’t be permanent weapons, though.

    Two words : GOTY 2011 ;)

      That’s eight words :D

While they haven’t officially mentioned Zora’s, I did see what looked like the Zora’s of old in the trailer.  It may have been a new style of octorok if I’m wrong.

Zora’s had two canon forms right?

    • kahoseclipse

I believe you are talking about the very same Parella race mentioned in the text and shown in one of the screenshots above..

  • Shinji Kazuya

Yet another nice feature. The wait is being so unbearable. > <

    Almost there… almost… O O

  • Seink Moonlight

This made me imagine little kids mixing insects and tomato juice and giving to their friends saying its good for their hearts or something XD

      I actually wouldn’t be surprised if that happened. o_o;

  • Merulana

I like this idea! It’s a great game mechanic to add.

However. No potion can beat Grandma’s Homemade Soup!

    • xflame10

To those who don’t know, that’s a real item.

Is it just me, or is this game less ‘Action Adventure’ and more ‘Baby’s first RPG’?

Regardless, I’ll still get this anyway.

    • http://twitter.com/Paradox_me Paradox me

I don’t know if I’d word it that way. It appears to be everything that Zelda has been since Ocarina of Time with light RPG elements on top. So, no less action-adventure, just more RPG.

I think the additions look great. Not that I’m tired of the tried and true formula, but I do like it when developers add depth to their games. It’s usually the opposite nowadays.

  • http://www.rukinet.com/ Rukishou

I love how this game is becoming more of an RPG while still retaining what makes a 3D Zelda game Zelda.

I can’t wait to be drinking all kinds of insects this November!
