Kodansha To Launch GTO Short Story In November

Issue #49 (November 2nd) of Kodansha’s Weekly Shounen Magazine will be publishing a three-chapter spin-off story based on the Great Teacher Onizuka series.

The story, titled Black Diamond, will feature twins Riko and Miko from GTO: Shonan 14 Days, and will be penned by Tohru Fujisawa.

GTO: Shonan 14 Days was the sequel to the original Great Teacher Onizuka series. While Shonan 14 Days recently concluded in Japan, Vertical have licensed the series for publishing in the U.S.

    When will Vertical start releasing?

Releases start in January of next year. Personally I’m more interested in the fact that they’re gonna publish Shonan Junai-gumi as well. They’re going to release the two series in alternating months. So GTO: Shonan 14 Days will come out in odd months and Shonan Junai-gumi in the even months. That’s the plan they have as of now so far. I find the release schedule pretty ambitious. Hope they can keep it up (especially when they run out of already translated chapters of Shonan Junai-gumi).

I got my fingers cross that it can lead to re-prints of GTO since the series is somewhat expensive with it being out of print and all. >_< I missed my opportunity to own it back then would love to buy it now if I have the chance though. At the very least it would be great if we could get all of Shonan Junai-gumi released this time.

Shonan 14 days wasn’t a sequel, it was an interquel, unfortunately. Which sucked, because I Really wanted to see more of the original cast. I never finished it because of that.

I absolutely love GTO, but I’ve only read the ~25 volume series. Is Shonan 14 Days focused on the teaching or is it another series about his bosozoku days? If it’s not about teaching, I’ll pass.

      It is teaching, don’t worry

Nice, then I will be reading it. Thanks.

I hope you mean “teaching” in the loosest sense. ;)

      • thaKingRocka

Onizuka’s “teaching” is what the education system really needs. :P

I saw the picture of Onizuka there and for a miniscule second, I got excited hoping there was a game coming out for it. Damn, a GTO game would be AMAZING.

I don’t remember the name, but there’s a pretty recent PSP game that was featured here that is basically a GTO game without the license. Maybe someone with a better memory can chime in with some info for you.

I am assuming you mean Kurohyou. If so, tried the demo, didn’t like it. I like the Yakuza games, but this just had so many problems.

        • thaKingRocka

I just checked a video. That’s not the game. I’m surprised nobody has chimed in with the right game yet actually. Sorry, but I can’t remember it and my searches keep turning up nothing helpful.

          • Yukito

            Ah….now you got me curious.

Fujisawa sure will be busy with the new GTO story, his Shinigami story, Soul Reviver, and the hostess club manga, Shibuya Hachiko-Mae.

I would actually love to see a GTO sequel that takes after the events of GTO. Shonan 14 Days was more of a semi-prequel if anything. Still pretty good though.
