Will Resident Evil: Revelations Get A Nintendo eShop Demo?

Will Resident Evil: Revelations Get A Nintendo eShop Demo?

The answer is “maybe”. Capcom’s Christian Svensson thinks it’s a good idea, but there are restrictions in place that would need to be sorted out with Nintendo in order for it to happen. Replying to a Capcom forum user who asked about seeing the game’s E3 or TGS demo builds on the eShop, Svensson shared:

“We’re in talks with Nintendo about that and I agree, I think that would help sales a lot. For that to happen we need to get permission to use a larger filesize than demos currently are allowed.”

The ability to provide demos for Nintendo 3DS games over the Nintendo eShop will be available to publishers in November. While Svensson doesn’t provide details regarding just how large a Resident Evil: Revelations demo build would be, the full game will come on a 4GB Nintendo 3DS cartridge.

Resident Evil: Revelations also supports the Circle Pad add-on for 3DS. While Svensson clarified that Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D will not be updated to support the add-on, other upcoming 3DS games from Capcom — that he can’t discuss yet — will make use of it.

Come on, Nintendo, you know you want to raise that file size.

    Do itttttttt.

    • James Beatty

There is no file size restriction. At least not with e-shop titles. I do understand the demo restrictions though, they can’t flood their servers with a ton of data when the demos are supposed to be short.

      • Exkaiser

There’s no file size restriction… except for the file size restriction on demos, which is what was mentioned in Svensson’s quote and which I was talking about.

Nintendo really needs to improve it’s eShop policies. Even if they approve a Revelations demo, we’ll most likely pay for it like the last couple demos as they don’t offer a way for devs to provide free downloads. I hope we get a demo, but even if we don’t, I’m supporting Revelations regardless. So, increase that size limit!

They don’t provide an option for completely free eShop games from what I understand. I don’t think demos would fall under that category. But yea, if anyone can twist their arm at this point, it’s Capcom. :p

I’m not sure about other region’s eShops, but I believe Konami said that they can’t provide free downloads, so they went with the lowest possible price for their New Love Plus transfer tool, 200¥. But yeah, I think demo’s may be excluded, but weren’t Capcom’s last demos priced at 200¥, too? But I guess that was because it was an illegitimate demo of the sorts. Now that Nintendo hopes to push demos on the eShop, I suppose they’ll be free, afterall.

I think Capcom really has the power to not only push their demo, but demos as a standard. But hey, with Nintendo improving the eShop overall and with the upcoming November update, I think it’s possible.

Pretty sure demos will be excluded from the $1.99 requirement. It really is a bummer that it exist at all and is probably keeping a good deal of app makers from bringing their products to the 3DS (as well as the high dev unit price unless Nintendo has another solution for smaller devs I don’t know about).

Hahaha, “illegitimate demo” makes poor Nazo Waku ep1 sound like some red-headed step child. But yea, since they’re saying demo features will become available only in November, it’s likely they mean proper demo support.

          • aoihana

Yeah, it kind of does ^o^ I really think they’ll approve of Capcom’s demo because if they don’t, it will kind of contradict their hopes for November. And now that it will be an official feature, I’m sure they’ll be free.

    • xxbrothawizxx

There was only one demo that came out that cost money. It came out before Nintendo made the option available so it probably won’t happen again. I’m pretty sure Nintendo would do anything for Capcom at this point (their basically carrying the platform regardless of the MML3 cancellation) and would likely make an exception in their case as well as offer it for free as all other demos will be.

      • aoihana

Yeah, now that you mention it, the last demo was technically an app, or eShop game masquerading as a demo, so it had no choice but to be paid. Now that more demos are heading our way in November, I guess Nintendo will shape up. And yeah, Capcom really has the bargaining chips on this one.

I’m pretty sure Capcom will port this to Wii U with motion control later.

    • xxbrothawizxx

I’m expecting this game to hit almost every platform by the end of 2014

      • James Beatty

“I’m expecting this game to hit almost every platform by the end of 2014″ I’m pretty sure it’s only going to be on nintendo platforms since nintendo is the publisher. So no, it’s going to either stay a 3DS exclusive or a wii u/3DS game

        • http://www.siliconera.com Ishaan

Nintendo aren’t the publisher. They’re the “distributor” and as far as I know, that’s only true for Europe. They were also the distributor for SSFIV3D in Europe.

          • James Beatty

Really? I read it somewhere…DAMN YOU UN-RELIABLE INTERNET! But still, i wouldn’t expect to see this on any other console, at least not any time soon.

I wonder how big the Demo would have to be and how small the file size cap is? Nintendo does allow larger 3DSware file sizes than they did on the Wii with Let’s Golf 3D clocking in at around 200mb. It’s like because the game has so many high polygon and quality character models (probably around 3 would be in the demo) and a plethora of other models that make up the scenery. The Revelations Demo from Mercs 3D ended up spanning 2 very different environments (on the same boat of course) with different models and textures being used. The only recurring environmental models and textures were the walls, doors, etc. that made up the hallway scenes

    the demo sucked honestly

really excited for the game though

  • xxbrothawizxx

This basically confirms that we won’t be seeing a demo for MGS 3D either (unless Nintendo allows Capcom)……

If you have to pay then it’s not a demo.

  • Solomon_Kano

Let’s hope they raise the cap then.

  • KaruCgSt

Aaah.. the e-shop, i love the recent “category” called “Games that don´t suck” or “Juegos que no son un asco” in spanish… at  least they now the quality of some of the games there.
