Final Fantasy XIII-2 U.S. Collector’s Edition Comes With Soundtrack, Concept Art

Square Enix are releasing a limited collector’s edition for Final Fantasy XIII-2 in North America. The collector’s edition will come a 4-disc soundtrack, a 20-page concept art book, and special packaging illustrated by Yoshitaka Amano. Here’s what it looks like:

The collector’s edition will cost $79.99, and will be available at Amazon, Best Buy and Gamestop. Each of those stores also has a separate pre-order bonus, with Best Buy easily offering the best incentive:

    Neat package, but XIII-2 isn’t a game I’m willing to drop 80 dollars on. I’ll pick up the regular version, though. I’m sure the soundtrack is quite nice, however.

    Just a random thought, but am I the only person who doesn’t like Yoshitaka Amano’s art/style in Final Fantasy? I’d like to see Akihiko Yoshida do some special/promotional art a little more often.

      As a kid I used to find it bizarre, but as I grew older I started to appreciate it more. It’s very stylistic though, so I can see why some people wouldn’t like it. And it stands out a lot compared to what you normally see for video game art, so that’s a plus too.

      If he was the one who did some(?) of the character work for dissidia then yes I hate his art/style.

        I think you’ll find that was Testuya Nomura, he redid all of Amano’s designs in that game.

        Neither of them have much on Akihiko Yoshida though IMO.

      I’ve never really been a fan of it either. I like how soft his art looks colors-wise, but that’s about it.

      I’m not a fanatic about Yoshitaka’s art, but I do enjoy it. I like his monster and background designs the most though. I think what turns most people off is the way he designs the faces, there are some situations where I don’t like them either. As a kid I was turned off, but I gradually started to like it.

    God, $80 is even cheap for me, considering it’s less than the price of a regular edition game here…
    Is this edition only available through these shops?

      For anyone who might be interested - I’ve just found out that Amazon.com DOES accept international orders (at least from Europe), for some great reason. What I really don’t know is if the pre-order bonus applies to international customers as well (I highly doubt that).

    I’m a tad bit disappointed in the selection, as the Crystal Edition is still superior in every way, but I suppose it’s better than nothing.

      Sadly the book for the Crystal Edition might be too large and I’m really looking for another t-shirt plus I doubt I could pre-order this one at GAME and get a hardback guidebook but I’ll see what I can do.

    Finally we Americans are not treated unfairly anymore. Im going to preorder this as soon as possible because the soundtrack is hot. The artbook may not be as robust as Skyrim’s but still that soundtrack in this one, four discs even, is hot. It is a must buy. Do we know the main theme for the game yet?

    This is much better than the European version since the later has only a selection of the OST’s tracks.
    If i was interested in the game i’d have surely imported the NA version.

      No, the European one comes in two varieties. The collector’s edition gets one disc of soundtrack, an artbook, a “lenticular” card and postcards while the Crystal Edition gets the complete soundtrack and an t-shirt on top of everything that’s in the collector’s edition.

      This package looks pretty nifty as well though.

      Dark Souls didn’t have a regular edition. All versions were upgraded to CE when it was announced, IIRC.

        i went to lots of game shops looking for the collectors edition (had to get it 2nd hand) and kept finding normal edition but i saw collector was the only one available online, i guess retail stores like to make as much money as they can and probs tried to sell them separately and the collectors at higher price ¬.¬

    With that box art, I’ll be disappointed if Lightning spends less than 75% of the game as the protagonist. I don’t even care about the plot, she just looks good in plate mail.

    Hey, does anyone know if Omega Weapon is obtainable in the game? If so, then ordering it off Amazon is a waste. I’m in b/t the thought of pre-ordering the Gamestop or Best Buy version if the former is true. Can anyone please help me choose? Thanks!

        The boss fight is a DLC exclusive? Are you positive? It isn’t just to fight him earlier and have him as a powerhouse? Or for the players who don’t have the time and effort to unlock him in-game?

          No. You only get Omega Weapon in the game if your have the DLC. I’m sure they’ll make it downloadable for a fee after the game comes out, but for now, it’s a preorder bonus.

            Alright, thank you for the response you guys. I guess I’ll resort to the Best Buy  bonus since it is the only non-digital bonus and I don’t think you can get it anywhere else. @ Devon. The other two, like you said about OW, will probably be on PSN later on I guess. I wonder if i don’t need to place a preorder and just ask the store clerk if i can purchase the DLC separately? Any thoughts on the matter @ members of Siliconera?

    seriously it’s always Europe and Japan that has been getting pretty much all of Square’s LE goodies.

    FFXIII, KH BBS, T3B, Dissidia and 012 Duodecum, Tactics Ogre, FFIV Complete Edition and tons more.

    will definitely get this and sadly i might not pick the amazon one since Bestbuy has the hardcover Episode I novel translated(takes place after the events of XIII and before XIII-2)

    I wasn’t too particularly interested in buying this, but I simply cannot resist the lure of a OST and concept art book. Especially since I’ve really enjoyed what I heard of the OST so far. 

    One question though, do we know what the alternate Serah costume is? Because if not, or if it’s not cool at all, I guess the novella is best.

    And I still can’t get over that atrocious outfit they put Lightning in.

      Ugh I know what you mean about Lightning’s outfit. I didn’t really mind the armor and feather thing but it the fact she’s wearing half-armor that bugs me.  Seriously SE…shorts, skirt, pants, full-armor anything would suffice. It just feels like Light is just walking into battle like she forgot to put on pants or something. lol -_-

        The armor itself isn’t bad (just random, but maybe it works with all the context), and the feather bugs me (could be done well, but doesn’t look good on the cover), but yeah. That’s a big part of it too. Sometimes, they get so caught up in extravagant outfits, they forget how to make them actually work. (And they’re pretty good at making extravagant outfits work at times.)

    I’ve already got the Japanese version preordered, but I may sell it after I finish it and grab the English CE to look pretty on my bookshelf. Of course I’m still feeling the burn of the FFXIV CE…

    And minor quibble, isn’t Square Enix one company? Why “are” and not “is”?

      Both “are” and “is” are acceptable when talking about a collective like a company.  Use of the singular is more common in American English, but in the UK and other English speaking countries, the plural is usually used with collective nouns.

        That’s actually not true.

        When a company, like Square Enix does something (in this case release the CE version), they’re doing it as a collective, so it becomes singular, not plural. So it should be “is” not “are”.

          Incorrect.  It’s perfectly acceptable English to say, “Square-Enix are producing a new game”, “The team have finished the project”, or even “The party receive some experience points” (Dragon Quest should’ve taught you that last one).  It’s not the way people normally speak in American English, but it’s by no means grammatically incorrect.

          Think of it this way: Even in America it’s normal to say something like “This company called Square-Enix, they’re releasing a new game.” You’re using a plural pronoun+verb to refer back to the collective noun, but it’s grammatically correct and not unnatural sounding..

    Why does the world hate me? both Soulcalibar 5 and FF XIII-2 come out on Jan 31  and have special editions and then after that tales of the abyss comes out in the us and the day after that i would be paying for a first edition vita so the grand total comes out to a daughting $550 dollars before tax

    A Square Enix art book that comes with the various editions of their games is like a knock-off Pokemon product. Exciting when you get and looks good at a glance but it’s ultimately disappointing. I speak from experience, the XIII “art book” was ghastly. It’s annoying that they save the more beautiful artwork for the art books that are sold separately.

    However I’ll stand corrected if it’s full of Tetsuya Nomura and Amano’s artwork. Prove me wrong SE … I dare you!

    Oh dear……$79.99? Pass. I’ll get the regular edition. No offense, but I think that a 4 disc music bonus (which I can download later anyway) and a simple art book isn’t worth that much, and I don’t care about special packages in any limited edition game since I just rip up the boxes anyway lol, so…….pass. Sorry. :(

    wow, the US is getting a LE for FF13-2 after all, we were left out game after game when it comes to LE I never thought this would happen.. even Jpn’s not getting an LE, of course for the same price they always get the worst deal (like SotC/Ico, MGS 2/3, PW are separate games for them)

    Wonder when this would be up on Amazon.. if this is only $80 and comes w/ the full 4-disc soundtrack (same as the Jpn ne) and an artbook, only $20 more than the regular game it’s a huge bargain.. I even pre-ordered the Jpn soundtrack which cost more than $60 by itself.  I think I need to cancel the OST and regular game order now.. 

    I’ll probably go w/ Amazon for the omega code, have the episode i novella alrdy..

    EDIT: oh stupid, it’s up on Amazon alrdy, before I did the search for limited and not collector’s and it didn’t come up :) order switched now.. if the Jpn OST doesn’t have any bonus I would need to cancel that.. wish they had announced this sooner so I’m not scrambling w/ my pre-orders now *.*… I’m alrdy double dipping on the Jpn ver of the game…

    My MGS HD Collection LE just came in the mail too, plus 13-2′s CE I’m a happy camper :)

      I worried there too for sec. I was jelly at Eur’s Crystal Edition. “Y u no give us LE in USA SE?” Then bam CE pops up and I am excite. But I’m torn now…still double dipping but is the CE for PS3 version only? B/c now I’m going to have switch my orders around. @_@

        I thought we wouldn’t get an LE at all like the first game.  CE is for both 360 & PS3 on Amazon now, I just canceled my regular and ordered CE for 360 instead.  I’m still double dipping, but getting the Jpn ver on PS3 as you know..

        80 bucks is a steal, I was gonna import the OST for like $65 (since this is 4 disc official OST, I assume it’s not sample and exactly the same as the Jpn OST right? I hope it’s not missing any tracks..) .. good thing the seller let me cancel it (I told him SE just announce this all of a sudden for the US lol), if I pre-ordered from YesAsia, they probably won’t let me cancel (they might out of good will, but I don’t want to bother them and be blacklisted :)

        I guess if you’re double dipping, you could get either ver in CE from Amazon, and get the other regular from Best Buy and get both bonuses :)

        I tell ya, we keep thinking Jpn gets all the good stuff, but they get the short end of the deal price-wise.. here we pay $80 and get the artbook and soundtrack, they pay like a $100 for just the game.

        awesome man, looks like it might be rare too.. only flipped thru the artbook a bit, high quality :)  And I love Peacewalker, the controller w/ the right stick is much better, everything just felt better than the limited control on the PSP :) The word balloons from comic cutscenes are much easier to read too, game looks beautiful, nothing like hooking up the PSP to the TV..

          Duel Mode Nightmare Easter Egg Secret Theater Ape Escape(at least keep it on PS3) Dual Audio(this would have been a amazing addition) Documentary of MGS2 MGS3 Subsistence Disc 3

          i love the Duel Mode in MGS3 since you don’t have to replay the game just to fight the bosses. plus it’s good to see how fast you could take them out. i think they’ll probably want a online leaderboards for that which despite not needed at all, would be a welcome addition :P 

          also Secret Theater was one of the best parodes ever in video game history. seeing Snake vs The Boss in Rock Paper Scissors or Metal Gear Sigint was hilarious and funny. can’t believe they removed that : and Nightmare Easter Egg???? wtf???? i love the scene, since Para Medic and Signt will say something interesting after that scene. plus playing a DMC type game out of nowhere was surprising and awesome. 

          the Documentary and Disc 3 Subsistence would have been a welcome addition as well.

          but i think Konami are trying to save costs since if we put all these content it’ll probably take up to 3 discs which would put the collection at $60 which i don’t mind paying at all if we were to receive those content.

          as for MGS1. we all know it’s from PS1 so that’s that, plus there are references on PS1 like Psycho Mantis Controller and what not.

          same with Twin Snakes. since they had to removed the Yoshi figurine in the Gray Fox battle.

          so i don’t blame them for not putting MGS1.

          though i think they should have put Portable Ops and Portable Ops+

          i mean they badly need the 2nd analog stick.

          oh well this collection is still amazing despite only having 90% of the content.

          i wish konami would have delayed this game and put everything missing on the collection(at least on the PS3)

            Yeah, looks like both LE for PS3 and 360 are sold out, good thing I pre-ordered from Amazon, got the $5 credit and used it on Rising too :)  The artbook is totally worth it, beautiful Shinkawa arts.  PW in HD is gorgeous.. I connected the PSP to play on TV before and it looked crappy.. and I have so much fun w/ PW right now w/ the addition of the 2nd analog stick, how the game was meant to be played in the first place.. and the cut scenes and word balloon so easy to read..

            Oh I didn’t remember all the goodies, it’s alright, we’re getting 3 games in one so really a much better deal the Jpn ver which are sold separately again like Ico/SotC, the Jpn fans feel like they’re getting gipped..  Would be cool if we get Twin Snakes too but that’s ok.. MGS2 felt a little dated w/o the free camera compared to MGS3 & PW.. (no way I would play 3 on 3DS now).. 

            BTW, I’m importing the Jpn ver too on PS3 too (I got the HD collection on 360).. I got PW, thinking if I should get MGS2/3 as well.. I’m looking to sell the codes for the Jpn MGS1 and PW d/l.. I bought MGS1 on Jpn PSN before… and PW I imported before… maybe I’ll let them go for around $10 each or something.. on Jpn PSN it’s 600 yen for MGS1 and PW is more expensive, but again I don’t need them..  I’m disappointed the US 360 ver didn’t get the avatar items for free or as unlockable awards, instead they’re sold for 400 ms points each.. the metal gear ray and Shegahod…

            Doh! I haven’t thought of a possible Limited edition for Rising and used the code for the regular edition alrdy.. I hope the code is still valid if I do decide to change to LE later..

            I like Shinkawa’s art much more, Ashley Wood’s art looks weird in the cutscenes..

            Nah, no dual audio for FF or MGS, so means double dipping for me, yet again.. I got both Jpn & US ver MGS 1-4 alrdy..

            Well, the static camera from 2 feels dated now, even after playing 4 and PW, it’s hard to play 3 in the original static camera mode, feels very restricted.. I wish the cutscenes could be accessed later like how they did in PW..

            Nah, just the regular version for me, don’t need the figures just the artbook, double dipping alrdy burns a hole in my wallet.. well, the 360 avatars were to make up for the lack of digital code for MGS1 & PW in Jpn, I was hoping they would be free or unlockables after you beat the games.. we still get the better deal w/ 3 games in 1… if you want the Jpn Peacewalker downloadable game let me know, I’ll sell it for $10 or something.. playing w/ a regular controller is just so much better than on the PSP…

    I don’t even think I like this game, but this looks very nice and a 4 disc OST is quite enticing. I am guessing you don’t get a separate box for the game though which kind of stinks for those with limited shelf space as this looks fairly large.

    Oh, that 4 CD soundtrack is so tempting….but I don’t know if I’ll have the funds for this. Christmas always leaves me broke and February is busy enough with other releases. T____T
