Sonic Advance Spin Dashes To Android In Japan

Sega have released Sonic Advance, originally developed for the Game Boy Advance in 2001, for Android devices in Japan. The game was released yesterday on the Android marketplace for 415 yen.

A release for territories outside Japan hasn’t been announced yet. Here’s what Sonic Advance looks like on Android:

    Awesome! I have an Android tablet! \(@ ̄∇ ̄@)/

Oh, wait…it’s Android 1.6 Donut from like 3 years ago. ( TДT)

What’s the new one? Android 3.2 Honeycomb? Then Android 4.0 Ice cream Sandwich is out soon. (T▽T)

    Yeah, I know 。゚(゚ノД`゚)゚。

I need a new Android and iOS device (´A`。)

    • Solomon_Kano

And iOS? Pick a side! Unless you’re Swiss, then it’s cool.

      • aoihana

Well, they both are just so awesome! (^▽^)

iOS gets a lot of ports, too, so I have to get both! (o ̄ω ̄o)

        • Solomon_Kano

Hm… that does make sense. Besides, you’ll need an apple or two to even out all those desserts if you wanna stay healthy!

          • aoihana

Well, an apple a day does keep the doctor away, but these are some mighty expensive apples! (^▽^)

          • Solomon_Kano

Indeed. No pain, no gain though. So, I guess that means your wallet will take the pain.

Sonic for an android ….NICE Sonic Rules XD

  • Solomon_Kano

Y’know, I miss that Gameboid emulator that used to be on the Android market. I had everything on my phone! Pokemon, FFs, Golden Sun, Castlevania: AoS… *sigh* Why did my phone have to die after they removed the app T.T

    • HerpiesDerpies

      Thank god for the internet?

      • Solomon_Kano

Thank god indeed. A quick search got me the app back. Whoo!

  • MarkMario

Now just waiting for iOS version…

Yea I’d rather play this for free on my psp, laptop, desktop, wii, etc…

These games were fantastic and overlooked.  I was hoping for a VC or compilation release though.

These are very overlooked, people usually ignore it when bashing the series in the past decade (and still do!).  So glad they are revisiting them.

I would love a collection of the GBA Sonic games.  Don’t care for the button-less ports on mobile phones but if a good port I cannot ignore it either if I get an Android…

Ah, all three Sonic Advance titles had great music. Although… I guess that’s pretty much all Sonic games that have great music.

Glad to see everyone having such positive reactions to this news. Even when things got a little rough on the console side, the handheld Sonic titles were always as top-notch as usual.

  • AnimeRemix

Ah… I remember great memory’s with this game and the other Sonic Advance games. Wish I still had all 3 Advance games (including Battle). =/

You know, I keep hoping that they’ll make a new Sonic Battle game, adding in new characters to vary the roster a little more. I think it’d be a great game on the Vita, or something.

Sonic Battle is one of those games I like to go back to every once in a while, to find new colors and abilities for Emerl that I initially missed.

      • Solomon_Kano

If I could like this more than once, I would. You don’t know how long I’ve wanted a new Battle.

  • MrRobbyM

Awesome! The Advance games were some of my favorite Sonic games ever. Right next to Adventure 2, which was pretty much my childhood.

I didn’t like the first one much. The second and third were flawless.

    • http://www.myspace.com/Juan_Rod bluejuan85

      Indeed I actually prefer 2 over 1 and 3.

      • http://twitter.com/Megawarrior345 Elle

I agree. 2 was the best out of the 3. Mainly because of the stages and it had the best music I think.

  • Advent_Andaryu

I’d like the Sonic Advance games on the 3DS eShop.

First we’re going to need GBA VC though. xD
Which reminds me, does anyone know when the GBA ambassador games will be available for download?

The Advance games and the Rush games aren’t really my cup of tea.  They’re good games but i’m too much of a classic Sonic purist to really enjoy them, other than classic Sonic the only other style i REALLY like is modern (Unleashed, Colors, Generations).

Is it still called Sonic Advance? I remember they changed the name when they ported it to the N-Gage (It was changed to Sonic N). Seems weird to keep calling it Sonic Advance on an Android…

At any rate, it’s cool if they’re doing that, because the Sonic Advance series has some of the best Sonic games ever made in there. Unfortunately, Sonic Advance isn’t one of them. Advance 2 or 3 are excellent. This one? It’s slow, the music is forgettable, and the Zone themes are derivative of the Genesis games. Still, the sprite art is nice and it’s a solid platformer. It’s closer to the very first Sonic than any other recent Sonic sidescroller thanks to the lack of speed.

    i want this.

    Ugh.

    Awful touch screen “buttons” controls.

  • http://www.facebook.com/hugolcouto Hugo Couto

I think better call it “Sonic N” than “Sonic Advance” at least. Remembering that Sonic N was a port of Sonic Advance for Nokia N-gage, so I think is much better this name

    • Joanna

      Sonic Android? xD

I don’t really see why they need to do the name change since Advance is a word that fits pretty well with video games (regardless if it’s on GBA or something else). It gives the impression of an improved sequel.
