Steins;Gate Love Comedy Spin Off Follows Original Game To PSP

Earlier this year in June, Mages released a spin-off of Steins;Gate, titled Steins;Gate: Hiyoku Renri no Darling for the Xbox 360. This is a lighter, love-comedy take on Steins;Gate and allows you to see what the characters are up to in their regular lives.

 

Hiyoku Renri no Darling has dating-sim features, such as the ability to get closer to the female cast by sending them e-mails. You’ll get to see a different side of their personality in the game, and it contains new CG art as well.

 

Today, Mages announced that Steins;Gate: Hiyoku Renri no Darling is being ported to the PSP, like Steins;Gate before it. The game is slated for release in 2012.

      Steins;Gate actually does have a really good shot at being localized because Nitroplus have a partnership with Jast USA. The best way to increase its chances of getting localized would be to buy Demonbane and the five other Nitroplus games Jast have coming out, so that Nitroplus will continue to bring their games out of Japan and to buy Aselia The Eternal, so that Jast know that people are willing to buy all-ages VNs.

      Plus buying those games isn’t a waste of money because Demonbane and Aselia are both fantastic games and three of the upcoming Nitroplus games were written by Gen Urabochi of Madoka and Fate/Zero fame.

        Except that the majority of the game was done by 5pb and published by 5pb.  Nitroplus just helped out.  So, it’s up to 5pb (MAGES nowadays if you’re keeping track). if they want to license their IPs to someone in the west.

        I say if Corpse Party does reasonably well, even though it’s a digital download, we might start to see more MAGES titles licensed.

          It was a collabartion, so I would say that both companies played an equal role. Regardless of how much input Nitroplus had or didn’t have, they most likely hold some rights to the game. So if anybody wants to localize Steins;Gate or Chaos;Head they would need both companies to agree.

            Nitro+ most likely will agree to having the game licensed if the opportunity presents itself, that’s no problem.  But, 5pb published the title, so they hold the rights to they license and they have been the road block to the licensing of Chaos;Head and Steins;Gate in the west.

      If you don’t mind importing the Japanese version of Steins;Gate (which just got a rather cheap rerelease), the translation patch for it will be done within the next month or so.

        The patch is technically for the PC, what people really want is the console releases of course.

        If you only care about the true route, then one can just watch the anime, but the game does a better job (mainly because of the medium) explaining everything better.

    A PSP version’s nice, but I wish they’d release a PC version so I could import it and play the eventual fan translation. Though I don’t think they ever released a PC version of Love Chu Chu, so I guess I can’t expect one of this either… :x

       The last volume of the DVD, BD release in Japan is February 2012.  So, the earliest we can see Funimation releasing the title in the US is probably early summer 2012.

        Yea, I’ve been getting the Jpn blu-rays and just got Vol. 6 w/ 3 more to go w/ 1 coming out each month, pretty dang expensive.. but the bonus booklets and CDs are kinda nice.. I really wish they are not so stingy and provide Jpn subtitles.. most Jpn anime blu-rays are subtitle-less..

        I only played about half of Hiyoku Renri Darling and got 3 endings out of 6 (Kurisu default first ending, then Moeka and Mayuri).. personally it wasn’t as good as I expected.. I didn’t find it too interesting so I gave up.. it’s truly a spin off in every sense of the word and many chars are simply not in character being in a different universe..  It’s good that the sequel is coming to PSP, but I think that just leaving at the first game and watching the anime is enough..  I heard that even the PC game which is a true sequel isn’t that great either..  Also the new CGs’ quality just ain’t very good at all to my dismay.. much lower quality than huke’s..

        There were some funny moments.. but everyone’s personality is too different, including Okarin’s (the divergence is 3 point something).. I know it’s a spin off and not even a sequel, but it pales in comparison compared to the godly original.. what was the most regrettable was the LE was absolutely not worth it.. the soundtrack is pretty crappy having 1 single long track (over 40 mins) and other than the title theme, I don’t hear how it was remixed..

          Same here.  I was already buying the JP Blu-rays when Funimation announced the license.

          Is there a walkthrough for Renri Darling?  I want to pick the game up, but it’d be nice to use a walkthrough to get some of the endings/achivements even though Kurisu is the only girl I’m really interested in (Ruka’s route *should* be fun, hopefully).

          Sucks that the PC sequel isn’t that great either.  I wasn’t expecting too much when I heard the lead from Chaos;Head is in the game.  I felt like Steins;Gate didn’t need a sequel; the true ending was perfect.  Maybe 5pb thought they could capitalize on the success of the series.

            I’m not sure if there are any Eng. ones out there, but I used this Jpn guide, it lists the achievement and how to get the 6 endings.  You get Kurisu’s ending by default on your first playthru.. that was the best one.. Moeka one was pretty good (I like Moeka because she didn’t have her own ending in the first game).. I haven’t gotten to the Ruka one yet, maybe I was just too put off by the Mayuri route, it felt very forced.. I just can’t see Okarin and her romantically involved at all..

            I agree, the original game was really quite epic and perfect.. and the anime did the game justice as well.. the spin-off is so-so.. I got to get the other 3 endings one of these days.. the CGs really aren’t very well drawn though unfortunately, some looked pretty bad I thought.. maybe I’m used to the anime design now :)

            I knew this was going to get ported to PSP eventually, but I would say even as a fan of S;G, this spin-off is kinda skippable.. It just wasn’t as good as I thought, at the time I was starved for anything S;G after finishing the main game lol..

    On a unrelated topic, if the steins;gate movie is based on this I will but the dvd as soon as possible.
