The Amazing Spider-Man Game Will Take Place After The Movie

By Ishaan . December 7, 2011 . 11:30am

The Spider-Man movies are seeing a reboot next year with the release of The Amazing Spider-Man, and of course there’s a videogame to go along with the movie as well. As per usual, the game will be published by Activision, who revealed today that development is being handled by Beenox (Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions, Spider-Man: Edge of Time).

Unlike previous Spider-Man movie tie-ins, The Amazing Spider-Man takes place after the movie, and acts as an epilogue to the events of the movie itself. Activision say the game will involve a “Web Rush” concept that will allow for new moves, and will allow the player to swing freely all over the city of Manhattan.

The Amazing Spider-Man is slated for release in summer 2012 on the Xbox 360, Wii, PlayStation 3, Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo DS. Activision say that a debut trailer will be presented at the upcoming Spike Video Game Awards.

just 1 question its is an open world like batman AC?

    • SolNeko

definately sounds like it “Activision say the game will involve a “Web Rush” concept that will allow for new moves, and will allow the player to swing freely all over the city of Manhattan.”
sounds pretty open world to me, i hope its good. the last decent spiderman game for me was ultimate spiderman on ps2

    My shovelware sense is tingling

    • aoihana

      Shovelware?

I realize that not everyone is particularly fond of these games, or movie games, for that matter, but to call any game shovelware is utter ignorance.

If you don’t like a game, you don’t play it. Simple. But there are people, like me, who appreciate these games, and reading your comment is outright insulting. (◕‿◕✿)

      • http://myfigurecollection.net/collection/ashgail Ashgail

Unfortunately, most movie/anime/anything with a “tie-in” in its name are just quick cash ins toward said media and people just buy it for its brand.

It’s cool you like them, and there are great movie/anime games like Riddick and Narutimate Hero series, but the rest are just disappointing.

        • aoihana

My point exactly, there are games that are actually good, not to say that the rest are bad, really, they all have their points.

We all have our share of opinions, but it’s irritating when someone cries shovelware with a 10 second teaser. I’m almost certain they didn’t even watch the teaser, too. (◕‿◕✿)

          • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100002395146276 Peace Legacy

You are right, I didn’t even bother to watch the teaser (teaser are just pretty cinematic cutscene that shows off the graphic, it won’t off any deep insight into the gameplay mechanic anyway)
Still, I am sorry if I offended you in any sort of way
            It is just that:
            http://www.gamespot.com/search.html?qs=spider+man&tag=masthead%3Bsearch
With that negative track record, I pretty much lose faith in any video games that got a super hero or a movie name title on the front
            This problem is recognized at:
            http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TheProblemWithLicensedGames

And yes, the shovelware term was used with the intention of insulting the game (No point sugar coating it)

          Keyword “most”

          • http://myfigurecollection.net/collection/ashgail Ashgail

Exactly. “Most”. Hence the word in my first sentence.

I dont know, many titles from licensed properties have been shovelware…

Also dude never even stated if he liked or did not like the game…

        • Solomon_Kano

That’s true, but the term shovelware is generally used in a negative fashion.

        • aoihana

How could you possibly like a game and call it shovelware? That’s like calling someone stupid, but claiming you didn’t insult their intelligence. It would be a direct contradiction, would it not?

Anyway, it’s pretty obvious the dude isn’t fond of the game, but my point was that anyone calling a game shovelware before they even play it is pretty ignorant.

          • http://tristsantithesis.tumblr.com/ Tsunayoshi Sawada

Easy, theres tons of games that are addicting to play that are just bad or were just quick cash ins. Theres many games on iOS that would qualify, and for boxed products….well Im a fan of many licensed properties games.

People like bad movies and bad books and bad games, so…

    • http://twitter.com/ifarah12 Gren

Spiderman games have been pretty fun actually.

    • ddh819

the main movie tie-in is not going to be shovelware

  • http://tristsantithesis.tumblr.com/ Tsunayoshi Sawada

What a waste for the 11th reveal for the VGA’s, lol.

However Im excited for the Spiderman movie as Spiderman (with TM) was my favorite for it, curious how the new person will do even though it wasnt my first choice (wanted Logan Lerman if I recall).  I may try a demo of the game though.

please be another spider man 2

  • aoihana

I don’t think I’ve played a Spider-Man game since my days of the PS2, and that was quite some time ago! It looks and sounds like an open-world, which is awesome because that’s what I loved about the PS2 games. This looks a lot more engaging, which is a plus. (^v^)

Activision say that a debut trailer will be presented at the upcoming Spike Video Game Awards.

I’ll definitely be sure to watch the awards, and I’m sure a lot of other games will make debuts, so it’s win-win. Though, I think I will hold off on playing this until I watch the movie! (◕‿◕✿)

    • Solomon_Kano

I’ll probably play this after I see the movie myself but, if you don’t, it probably won’t spoil anything for you. According to the article, the game is actually going to be set after the film, so there probably won’t be much, if any, overlap.

      • aoihana

I noticed that, but I’m afraid of flashbacks, or something. Like previously in Spider-Man (*^ワ^*)

        • Solomon_Kano

That would be hilariously awful. Now I can see myself sitting down expecting nothing to be spoiled only for them to play a clip of the movie’s climax and ruin everything lol.

          • aoihana

            (*^ワ^*) Yeah, exactly!

  • http://twitter.com/ifarah12 Gren

    It better be open world

    • Solomon_Kano

“Activision say the game will involve a “Web Rush” concept that will allow for new moves, and will allow the player to swing freely all over the city of Manhattan.”

I think this implies that it will, but I guess we’ll have confirmation shortly.

I hope it’ll be as good as Ultimate Spider-Man. While Spider-Man 2 was a good game, USM brought STYLE to the series. The game looked amazing, the story was great (well, it was based on the best arc) and the whole city was a lot more fun to explore. I myself enjoyed Web of Shadows and USM well over SM2 and I hope this game will bring something new, interesting AND stylish to the well known formula.

    • Solomon_Kano

Finally, someone else who preferred USM to 2. There’s no debating that 2 was great, but USM took everything that 2 was and made it better. I don’t agree on Web of Shadows (it was fun, but it had a few issues that place it below 2 for me), but I definitely agree on USM.

  • Solomon_Kano

Let this be like the PS2 Spider-Man games, Beenox. Shattered Dimensions was a good first step for a Spider-Man game (my favorite since the PS2 days), but I didn’t enjoy Edge of Time at ALL. Spider-Man 2 still stands as the best movie game I’ve ever played, so hopefully they’ll live up to that legacy.

It’s about time.  I’ve been dying for some more web-slinging since Spider-Man 2 and USM to an extent.

Let’s hope they do this right, I want to be able to swing past various fist fights rather than swing right to the next one.

  • heartless141

hope they know what people need this time.

  • http://twitter.com/Megawarrior345 Elle

    Hm…hope this one is good.

  • Mister_Nep

I usually rent Spiderman games shortly after release, and buy them later down the road. I’m most likely gonna do the same with this one.
