Pokémon Meets Nobunagas Ambition In A New Crossover Game

A new Pokémon game has been revealed by V-Jump magazine in Japan. The game is a 2012 title for the Nintendo DS and is a crossover between Pokémon and Nobunaga’s Ambition, which is a Koei series.

 

Pokemon + Nobunaga’s Ambition is being showcased at the ongoing Jump Festa trade event in Japan. We don’t have any further details at the moment. We also aren’t sure if this is the “shocking” title CoroCoro magazine are set to reveal next month, but it sure fits the description.

    Promo art of the characters make it look pretty epic. It seems like it could work as an anime really. If the story is a bit more mature focused and oriented and actually has good presentations values, I may be sold on it, that is of course, assuming it comes West.

    I for one am pretty excited for the possibilities this Nobunagamon crossover can bring us. I’ve always wanted a Pokemon SRPG, and this sure as hell beats a boring Pokemon Grey announcement. The promo art is nice too.

    The fact that it’s being developed for the DS baffles me far more than the actual random crossover.

    I heard the female cover artist for the Castlevania games (Kojima) was also the one that originally designed the Nobunaga “face” that we always see in Samurai Warriors, Onimusha, Sengoku Basara, Nobunaga games (and also seemingly Cao Cao in DW)

    Well, I did say I was tired of the COD-esque repetition of pokemon, so I guess the point goes to Nintendo this time. Reminds me of Digimon Tamers, so that’s a good start.

      well, at least Pokemon isn’t like COD; as it does have pretty interesting spin-offs, and doesn’t have a MILLION clones that cannot be differentiated without being told “yeah, that’s pokemon”.

    I can’t . . . I don’t . . . what??????? . . . Do Japan have an April Fool’s Day thing that happens on the 17th?

    This makes no sense. I can’t get my head round it. I was so excited for the Jump announcement and now I am just sad :(

    Is there any likelihood of Western territories even getting this? We’ve had, like, one Nobunaga that was released in America (and nothing here in the UK I don’t think). Is Pokemon going to be enough to interest people over here?

    Even if it’s released I’ll probably be skipping. I don’t like strategy games in general (which is why I play single-player RPGs . . . like Pokemon) and I can’t get my head around a strategy game based around conquering feudal Japan smashing Pokemon into the mix. It’s like Super Mario: Modern Warfare.

    I’m hoping and wishing, REALLY REALLY hard, that the CoroCoro announcement in January isn’t this. Grey, new Snap, new Ranger, new Mystery Dungeon, ANYTHING but this. Please?

      We had the original Nobunaga’s Ambition, one on SNES, and two or three on the PS2. But it is pretty unlikely. I love Nobunaga’s Ambition, but even many SRPG fans don’t touch the Nobunaga’s Ambition or Romance of the Three Kingdoms titles because of their insane complexity. They’re a niche game inside a niche-sub-genre inside a niche genre.

    It looks a little interesting, but at the sametime i’m still going “what is this? *pokes it with a stick*” Why not give us pokemon grey or gen 6 for the 3ds with a complete graphics re-haul along with new gameplay and battle system?

      Given just how soon Gen V AND the 3DS launched, rather than rush Gen VI, they’re probably, you know, trying to do a good job on it.

      It’s also probably likely that this has been an idea for a while now.

    Interesting – the fact both franchises are opening themselves up to a crossover like this, if anything, means there are a lot of possibilities in the future for either series.

    Pokemon Warriors? Dynastymon? Who knows?

    An interesting colab all the same.

    I have been dreaming a game where we will use pokemon to gain control of the pokemon world.(Even though i never could consider using Nobunaga as the main char to own the world.)

    At least they should allowed us to become team rocket and rule the world with Giovanni?

    …the only thing I’m disappointed about is WHY NINTENDO DS?! I have a 3DS here and it needs using!

        You’d also think by now people would realize that the Pokemon Company and Gamefreak are different entities from Nintendo.

        They’re pretty good with the releasing games as far back into consoles’ life cycles as they can. I imagine this project has been in the works for a while as well.

      Without being nitpicky, your analogy is flawed. KH is a series that took Final Fantasy and Disney characters, and included them both in an action RPG (which had not to that point been attempted within the main FF universe). The ‘crossover’ element came simply from the featured characters.

      THIS is the total smashing together of two completely different gameplay mechanics and entirely different concepts. Single-player RPG vs SRPG, bonds of friendship vs military commands, coming-of-age story against total conquest.

      Considering how anti-war the Pokemon games are in general I think it’s mega surprising that they would crossover with a game which basically involves one giant, epic war to completely conquer feudal Japan.

      Gah there are so many things about this that annoy me :( I need to go find a news story I like to release some positivity!

    most westerners probably wont appreciate this..but for those who have played Samurai Warriors or Sengoku Basara or at least learning japanese sengoku history should understand and probably like it :>

      Well, the history is the same…kind of. But the Nobunaga series has always been very stone-faced and very historically accurate. It is a slow, slow, strategy game, not at all like Basara or Sengoku musou.

    This game has been in the works for a while. So it makes sense it not being on the 3DS. It still doesn’t mean they can’t do a 3DS version with extra features. My only problem is the game should have been PokemonXSengoku Basara!

    Oh and 1 more thing since it’s on the DS you can import it, and play on your 3DS. The 3DS is still region free when it comes to DS games.

      you are right the setting takes place in the sengoku period were japan is all chaos and in history nobunaga tries to unify japan…..(learned in school)

    Wait. Wait. How could this possibly sell? Pokemon is typically aimed at kids. Nobunaga’s Ambition is an incredibly detailed strategy game that is typically played by older people. I imagine the overlap of these two fans is minimal at best. I like pokemon, and I like Nobunaga’s Ambition, and even I’m having a hard time getting excited. 

    Granted, that is because I’m assuming that the game will either sacrifice the in-depth, unforgiving, essentially micromanaging spread-sheet based gameplay of Nobunaga’s ambition, or it will sacrifice the friendly accessibility of pokemon. I can’t imagine a game that possesses the best of both worlds. I feel one series will be getting the shaft.
