I think I should give Sengoku Basara a try, I always just watch the openings. (*^ワ^*)

    ♪ Whoo Whoo! ♪

Unfortunately I called them first. I have the contract in stone, we are soon to be engaged (tehe! X3), and it is impossible for you to interfere. Yep. I’m taking them all. None for you unfortunately. Oh, and don’t try to pull of the whole “Chuck Norris is going to get me” because I already took care of him by bribing him to stay away. I hope you understand the circumstances of our engagement and I hope you enjoy the wedding that will be happening tomorrow!

      All is invited!

One more thing. Don’t try to bring a gun and kill me while hidden since I’ll be married behind unbreakable glass windows box shaped. Like I said before, you cannot interfere. :3

Please, I figured you’d learn by now, but it’ll take a little more than a contract to deter me from bishies.

As for Chuck Norris, yes, you did bribe him to stay away, and that he did. In fact, he’s back with me now. As long as I live, and as long as Chuck lives(which is forever, he’s immortal.) we will stop at nothing to make your life as hard as possible.

Well, I think that is overstating a bit, but they are obviously very good nonetheless. I’m looking forward to this anime. :)

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Mike-de-Groodt/100000446926616 Mike de Groodt

this anime looks like fun , but i think i’d rather stick to Sengoku Musou/Samurai Warriors more.(yes i know you can’t compare an anime with a game)
i like my Japanese history less Exaggerated

    • http://www.youtube.com/user/EnvyMizuhashi Garyuu

Agreed. Sometimes I think Sengoku Basara is so exaggerated (with its story, at least) that it shouldn’t have Sengoku in the title. At least pit Kotaro against Hanzo to convince me.

And what’s ironic is that the anime of SB has a better story to tell than the game of which it came from.

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Mike-de-Groodt/100000446926616 Mike de Groodt

I personally love capcom but find it sad that they had to basically COPY Koei’s Warriors game.
When i saw gameplay vids i was like is this a New Musou game?
then i did some research and was more or less saddened

        • http://www.youtube.com/user/EnvyMizuhashi Garyuu

I PLAYED the game, so I can tell you that SB isn’t really Dynasty Warriors with over-the-top action, but the reverse; an over-the-top action game pretending to be Dynasty Warriors. I thought I would’ve had a little fun with the game, but given it’s mediocre storyline (which lies about it’s “command&conquer” mechanic), poor design when it comes to objectives and strategy, and many other reasons, SB is worth spare change at best. You’re better off watching the anime.

Sengoku Basara UTAGE looks to be a lot better though, but given that it’s very likely it won’t come to the states, I can’t say any more than that.

Dear Funimation. Bring out Tatami Galaxy Blu-rays already. That’s the only thing I want from you guys. Thanks.

    • KyoyaHibari

Agreed, that and possibly Rainbow on Blu-Ray, I wish a second series would be made to fully adapt the manga, but I don’t want to go on a tangent about the controversies I have with Rainbow, although it is still an amazing anime. Nonetheless, Tatami Galaxy was sublime, and I would pay top dollar for a domestic Blu-Ray release, it is one of the most innovative animes to come out in years I find.

  • Solomon_Kano

Nice. I just started watching the first season on Netflix and it’s pretty awesome.

    • aoihana

      Awesome ~

My friend told me there’s not a lot of anime on Netflix, is this true? (◕‿◕✿)

      • Solomon_Kano

No! They have tons of anime.

I’ve gotten into so many series because I just randomly stumbled across them on Netflix. I got into Sgt. Frog recently because they suggested it to me.

        • aoihana

          I see, thanks! (◕‿◕✿)

Looks like someone has some explaining to do! (;¬_¬)

          • Solomon_Kano

Indeed. Perhaps your friend had seen most of the anime they had and didn’t see much new?

Also: I definitely meant no before. It looks like I’m saying “yes, that’s true” and then saying they do have a lot lol.

          • aoihana

Perhaps, but then that’s kind of misleading! I will investigate!

He told me he settled with NANA, but I told him to watch that like a year ago. ┐( ̄д ̄;)┌

Yeah, I was little rattled by Yes!, but not as much as I was when I read No! in your comment just now.

I could have sworn I read Yes! like 20 minutes ago, but then I realized you edited it! (*^ワ^*)

          • Solomon_Kano

I figured that edit might confuse if I didn’t say something about it lol.

If he settled with NANA then… I don’t even know. I really don’t know how one could say they don’t have a lot. They’ve got everything from Elfen Lied to Gurren Lagann to Monster to Gungrave.

  • Advent_Andaryu

Fantastic! I was waiting for this. They did a great job with the dub on the first season.

  • http://twitter.com/ReverendJohnW The Rev

Why does Funimation INSIST on only releasing sets as Blu ray/DVD combos. Logic would dictate that if you have one you don’t need the other and thus have a bunch of useless discs hanging around. UGH This is why I buy very little anime now.

    • PoweredByHentai

It could very well be a condition of their licensing agreement with the Japanese production committee (rights holders).

If you went to Anime Expo, they hold a panel every year where they give fictitious scenarios based on the sort of legal and contractual BS that they had to put up with the Japanese rights holders.

One of the scenarios they covered had to do with how they promote the Box Art, such as not being allowed to show the case at an angle because it implies that there is an “opposite” side to the box.

Also, not everyone has a Blu-Ray player, but everyone has a DVD player so doing a Blu-Ray/DVD combo release makes sense if you are aiming to please both ends of the spectrum.

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Aunna-Terrell/100001267508146 Aunna Terrell

I have a PS3 and a PS2. Whenever the TV in the living room (where the PS3 is hooked up to) is constantly in use, my son (only 4 years old~) watches his DVDs (like Ponyo, Alice in Wonderland, etc) on the PS2 in the bedroom on the smaller TV. So we try to buy the bluray/dvd combos bc we watch all our bluray movies (since my boyfriend is all about bluray atm) in the living room while our son watches his DVDs in the bedroom.

If I bought Sengoku Basara, I know my son would watch the crap out of the DVDs. He loved the game, when I played it on the PS3, and watched (plus not understanding a single word of Japanese) of the English subbed videos on the computer. XD

    • http://zerodestinypro.blogspot.com/ Zero_Destiny

It’s actually very simple, budgets. Individual releases are more expensive then a combo pack, it means you have to print two sets (a DVD set and a Blu-Ray Set) instead of just one. At this point in time it is still a danger to just pick one medium over the other too. You will split your audience in this already niche market if you choose to, many anime fans are fond of their Blu-Rays and don’t want to go back to just DVD’s but many other fans don’t yet have a Blu-Ray player (besides my PS3 I don’t own a Blu-Ray player. Heck my family only owns one TV that can do 16:9 1080p High deff, the rest are all good old tube TV’s).

It’s difficult economy for a niche market like anime and its made worse since the newest technology hasn’t really caught on yet. I’m not saying Blu-Rays/players aren’t that uncommon and they do run for fair and reasonable prices now but honestly they have yet to reach the widespread as DVD’s. The update to HDTV’s and Blu-Rays is an investment that not enough people have taken to warrant releasing just Blu-Rays (a lesson Bandai is learning a hard way right now with the Gundam UC Blu-Rays. There’s a reason why they had to announce a future DVD release).

Now some anime companies try to separate their Blu-Rays and DVD’s, to varying degrees of success. Let’s go back to Bandai Entertainment again, Bandai is able to release just Blu-Rays but it comes at a premium prices, which is part of their business policy now. Many anime fans (myself included) have stated how we are not fond of this policy and the higher prices. Really Bandai’s home video market focuses mostly on a very small hardcore group now though hence the decrease in dubs lately. Bandai can get away with not printing DVD’s simply because in the end of the day they are a totally different breed then Funimation.

Funimation’s main focus is a much more broad spectrum of fans that goes above the already there hardcore. Funimation’s DVD/Blu-Ray combo packs assures that the prices will be in the general range for their usual buyers, gives the fans who like their Blu-Rays what they asked for, and make sure that fans who have yet to update can still enjoy their purchase. It’s a safe choice and a good business policy for niche markets. Other small companies do it as well like NISA because it’s a safe in between ground.

      • http://twitter.com/ReverendJohnW The Rev

For somebody like me who is trying to avoid blu ray like the plague (Holograph is right around the corner) It’s kind of a pain, I’ll have all these discs that are basically expensive coasters.

I know there are plenty of others like me that are just holding out on blu ray
knowing something else is in the pipeline or they have a very high end DVD player that gets the job done.

and really Funimation probably wouldn’t be spending that much more if they printed DVDs and Blu Ray’s separately.

That’s just my opinion you have yours and that’s fine.

    • thebanditking

My only complaint is that these dual format sets always come in DVD boxes. Blu-ray cases are both shorter and thinner thus they save me shelf space. I know they make thicker blu-ray cases that could store everything but (imo) because the average consumer is too stupid to read they put them in DVD boxes so that people see it as a DVD release.
