Game Boy Tetris And Free 3DS Messaging App Landing On Japan’s eShop

By Ishaan . December 20, 2011 . 9:26pm

Next week’s 3DS Virtual Console release in Japan goes back to the very roots of the Game Boy — Tetris will be landing on the eShop for 400 yen.

Meanwhile, this week’s eShop download (out today in Japan) is Swapnote, a messaging app that lets you message people on your Nintendo 3DS friends list. Swapnote is a free app, and lets you send handwritten messages, photos and sounds. You can watch a video for it above.

Swapnote is slated for release sometime this month in the U.S. and Europe as well. In Europe, it will be titled Nintendo Letter Box. The app will be a free download in all regions.

Lemme find out the 3DS is getting a competent online OS experience. Messaging app is so cool. Cant wait for it to come out domestically.

It will probably be out next thursday in NA.

Wouldn’t competent be built in and usable in game?

  • James Beatty

It’s pretty cool, although kind of pointless. Why would i want a messaging system on a portable? that’s why i have a phone. But it’s still nice i guess, and being able to draw something and send it is a nice option too. Nintendo seems to have gotten their sh%t together and they are ready to kick some @ss. With their last update, the massive amount of retail games that are announced for 2012 and the eshop games becoming awesome the 3DS is finally turning into what nintendo wanted it too. To seal the deal they need to release a new Pokemon game and the 3DS re-vision that people are waiting for (even though it will probably come out late next year). After that they can pretty much declare victory and declare the 3DS a success. (MH 4 will also help ;)

Well, I don’t know about you, but I don’t have all of my friends on my 3DS on my mobile phone, so a messaging app is awesome! And even if I did have all my friends on my mobile, it’s really convenient being able to do it on one device. (^v^)

But yeah, 2012 is an amazing year for the 3DS, and it’s just started! There’s still loads of games that are unannounced and are coming, so I can’t wait!

The 3DS update sure did a number and made a great system even better! (◕‿◕✿)

Most of the games i bought the system for are coming next year, but i’m really happy with the 3DS now. In fact, i have TOO MUCH TO PLAY at the moment. I have the 10 GBA ambassador games which are amazing, plus pushmo, next week might switch force, and then on christmas i’m getting nano assault, cave story 3D, sonic generations, ace combat, kirby mass attack, and a few other games that i can’t think of at the moment. Since Skyward Sword i havent’ touched a home console, i have stayed on my awesome 3D device and my new smart phone that i’m using to play majora’s mask and sin and punishment 64 :P

Ishaan, I’ve said this in the Melty Blood article, but time and time again you never fail to do it! Thanks for the heads up, again!  (*^ワ^*)

I’ll go ahead and download Swapnote and see what it’s all about!

As for Tetris, it’s honestly so nostalgic! I remember playing it on my Game Boy, but back then, I was too young to really appreciate it, so I’ll go ahead and definitely pick this up as my first(well first bought) VC game for the 3DS. (◕‿◕✿)

    Bye for now! (⌒‿⌒✿)

What I want to know is… Is Swapnote online-enabled?

    • James Beatty

It lets you send messages via the internet, if that’s what you mean.

Then I approve of this app highly.

Good to see all the practice they did with the Wii’s channel system are becoming cool, and practical 3DS features. Can’t wait to see what the WiiU will have to offer.

Both out tomorrow in the UK as well as the sexy looking Mighty Switch Force. Unfortunately the price point of the latter two are £3.60 and £5.40.

Finally :D , it´s gonna be interesting to use :P
