Go For Baroque With Sting’s New iPhone Title

Go For Baroque With Stings New iPhone Title

Baroque was originally released as a Sega Saturn game. Later, it was ported to the PlayStation. Then, in 2008, Sting ported the dungeon-crawling RPG to the PlayStation 2 and Wii. Now, they’ve converted it into an FPS on the iPhone.

In Sting’s own words (in English):

“PlayStation 2 BAROQUE has evolved into FPS games.
Gun and sword can be used interchangeably.
The Meta-Being please Kill.
Please go to the bottom of the dungeon.”

Right, then! Baroque FPS (that’s the actual title) was released on December 25th on iTunes, and it’s free, so if you have an iPhone or third-gen iPod Touch, you can grab it here. At least now we know a little about what Sting have been up to lately.

A big thanks to Siliconera reader, Jeff, for the tip!

I care more about this then any one man should, but I don’t have an iPhone. Does any one know how I could play this without such devices?

    • icecoffemix

Yes, play either the PS2 or Wii version.

      • http://www.facebook.com/TheMidnightThunderCheeseLog Eamonn Higgins

I would but I already did EVERYTHING in the Wii version.

        • icecoffemix

          I am not worthy.

I can’t even clear past ten floor or so on the PS2 version lol.

          • http://www.facebook.com/TheMidnightThunderCheeseLog Eamonn Higgins

Well if you need any tips nows the time to ask 8D I even helped with the gamefaqs guide being credited as Noxnema.

You mean like the face cream?

          • icecoffemix

My problem is more to do with the dark atmosphere and less of the gameplay as I’m fine with roguelike.

Also, I’ve spoiled myself off the story, my only drive to play the game. :p

Oh, hi, nice to meet someone from that GFAQs thread here.

I kept hoping Sting would do something more with Baroque, but this is not exactly what I had in mind :/

            Oh well, maybe next time.

  • brian yep

    Um, wow.
I’m surprised this is coming from a company that seems to do mostly moe RPGs now.
    I want a moe FPS.
    >:3
    Oh wait, Galgun.
    I want a moe third-person shooter.

      Sting releasing moe RPGs….what?

    • icecoffemix

      >sting
      >moe
      what indeed.

      >implying moe is a genre

  • Kitestwinblades

This game is shrouded in so much mystery!
Its one of those hard games that you keep going into for answers.

Oh man, I remember when I first played this game- I threw the gun off screen and couldn’t get it back lmao My only question is… will it let us save more?
XD it is on the phone after all- unless most phone games have a sleep mode to hold your process like the other handhelds.

  • papuruka

If it’s being ported by Spike, then why does it say Sting in the title…?

    • http://www.siliconera.com Ishaan

Fixed! (It IS Sting, not Spike.)

[Don't go crazy, Don't go crazy...]

Damn it, I don’t have an iPhone! I wish they’d make another Baroque Remake, or a similar game. I totally love this game T_T

  • malek86

Not just this, but they’ve also been up to making a new Android RPG, apparently. Looks like they’re going the way of smartphones.

Anyway, I would be more interested in this if I had an iPhone/iPod, and if I hadn’t already played the crap out of the original PSX game. 100% done.

I would very much hate if the next Dept. Heaven game is on a smartphone… especially with the Vita devkit costing 1900 euros.

  • skymap

    Funny, I just bought Baroque.

  • Gatchaman1

Downloaded it for my iPad. Damn thing doesn’t even work lags like crazy all you see is a static screen unless you exit out and another screen.

    deleted it

  • Cear714

This game just ends and has no story at all… -_- don’t download this. Oh and thank God it was free because that would have been a waste of money. 1/10 stars…

I have the wii one and my friend gave me his ps2 copy truly the game is odd and kinda gets boring after you die/beat the game for the 5th time

  • Göran Isacson

Okay, so while I’m probably not going to buy THIS version, I have been eyeing the Wii version. Is Baroque a good game? Like, if the closest to dungeon crawling and roguelikes I’ve ever gotten is stuff like… Breath of Fire V (which I did love), would I like this game?

If you are a hardcore gamer, the short answer is: hell yeah! However if you feel frustrated when dying one time after another in an unfairly manner, then restarting to try your luck again, and so on… then stay away from this.

      • http://www.facebook.com/shawn.dickenson1 Shawn SomethingOtaku Dickenson

the point of the game is dying

        • http://www.facebook.com/people/Kevin-Schwarz/100002325567790 Kevin Schwarz

That’s my point, you keep on dying in order to progress, however IF that is not your favorite kind of game, then it’s better to let others know, don’t you think?

    • neo_firenze

Note that you don’t have to “buy” the iOS version (for iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad).  It’s completely free.

  • PrinceHeir

damn never played the game but i am now tempted on trying it on PS2 O_O
