Fate/Prototype Anime Short To Abridge Type-Moon’s Original Fate/Stay Night Story

The limited edition season 2 package of Carnival Phantasm came with a little bonus for Type-Moon fans: version 1.07 of Melty Blood Actress Again: Another Code. Season 3 will include a bonus as well.

 

Seasons of Change (via ANN) report that season 3 of Carnival Phantasm, Type-Moon’s comedy crossover anime series, will include a 12-minute special “Fate/Prototype” anime. This is an abridged version of the original draft for Fate/stay Night written by Kinoko Nasu.

 

The more passionate Type-Moon fans may recall that in the original draft, Saber was a male, and his master female. Type-Moon co-founder and artist, Takashi Takeuchi later requested that Nasu change Saber to be female, which is how the Saber we know today came about. In Fate/Prototype, Saber will be male.

      Truth is, that’s what they used for his character design. I read this somewhere before. That was back around the time the game came out though. To me, I think that it was a good move they changed his gender to a girl.

        I honestly don’t see how genderbending a character is a good move when going either way does the trick. It’s like saying “it ain’t a visual novel if the main lead isn’t male,” so they switched Ayaka to Shirou as well as Saber’s gender. I don’t mind the former approach, cuz I highly doubt Ayaka has any redeeming qualities compared to Shirou.

        Genderbending Saber was okay in my book. You can call it a time paradox. It was the later genderbends (Saber/Extra and Loli Jack the Ripper) that pissed me off.

          I agree with ya :), though I am glad that saber was changed to female.  There’s enough visual novels with male mains that are supposed to be the strongest.

            It’s what I like to call the Nasu Syndrome. Unknown or not, do people really think that all of the brutal murders of women and other major victims were pulled off grotesquely, silently, and swiftly by one little girl? Sure, that may be the case…in the Nasuverse. Then look at Frankenstein’s monster.

        Now that you mention it, him and Ayaka Sajou do indeed look like genderbended version of Arc and Shiki oO.

          Well, yeah, at that time, they had just finished Tsukihime so the designs were still fresh in Nasu’s mind.

          If they went with the original design, then they’d be pigeon-holing themselves with character designs.  There’s that and the possibility of confusing the audience.

          Think of it as trying to determine the difference between Black Cat’s “Eve” and To-Love-Ru’s “Yami”.

          There are pros and cons to sticking with a certain style/design and in Type-Moon’s case, I think they did a good job switching from the original design to what we have with Fate/Stay.

            Aside from his “people die when they are killed” quote, I thought Shirou was pretty decent, if not unrealistically idealistic.

            Then again, he is also Archer and we all know how GAR Archer’s Unlimited Blade Works is.

        It depends as the saber class can be male or female from their past life.  Its kinda to long to explain but all you have to do is meet certain qualifications to be a saber class when summoned,  you don’t even have to be a king or an aristocrat.  You don’t have to be female either to a female body of the saber class.

        @Go2hell66:disqus I think the story still could’ve been interesting with the genders swapped.  Personally, when I read the novel, I felt more interested in the relationship between Rin and Archer than Shirou and Saber.  I believe it was because I was (and still am) interested in seeing females in strong, lead roles.  That is not to say Saber isn’t a strong character, but technically she is a servant while Shirou is her master.  I liked experiencing the story from Rin’s perspective, not just because she was a master, but a confident, skilled master.

      Considering Gilgamesh has 2 swords on his back, maybe he was Archer rather than Gilgamesh in this.

        The Japanese news site I saw before listed him as “Archer”. Whether he’s actually Gilgamesh or not was unmentioned.

        Technically, Gilgamesh was always the Archer Class Servant. So he’d still be Archer in this case, just not quite the same capacity.

    So Saber was meant to be Male? That makes so much sense now, loved the anime but never quite figured out if Saber was meant to be King Arther or his daughter.

    Edit: Wouldn’t mind a anime based on this, the original Master looks cool as well…megame.

    now THAT’S King Arthur….dont get me wrong…I’m down to my knees for Arturia Pendragon…but never enough to let me ignore the fact that King Arthur is KING Arthur Pendragon (male) love both of em. male and female…but still, King Arthur ( I wont be using the term “Male Saber”) and his new Excalibur design really blew my mind. Check out the vid on Youtube…i dont need to learn Japanese to understand the awesomeness of this short 12 minute OVA..WATCH IT PEOPLE!!..BLOW-YOUR-MIND….

      well…I do think fate/zero is incredibly good, well…in the 2nd season I hope… these first 13 episodes really are “more-talk-less-action” …but still the anime kicks ass

    It seems too disorganized to be an OVA, it looks more like a trailer to a new anime series or a movie, which is what I’m ACTUALLY hoping it is.

    We’ve got Fate/Stay Night anime, Fate/UBW movie and a Fate/Zero anime, and after this BEAUTIFUL short (Which didn’t make any damn sense at all to be honest), they HAVE to do a Fate/Prototype anime. I demand it!
