Bandai Entertainment To Cease Publishing New Anime And Manga

Bandai Entertainment, the North American manga and anime subsidiary of Namco Bandai Holdings, will cease to publish new DVDs, Blu-rays and manga, starting in February.

Anime News Network report that Bandai Entertainment will continue to publish their existing catalogue, but new releases will be licensed to other companies for digital distribution and broadcasting. The company will be restructured, with most of its contractors and three of its five fulltime staff being laid off.

You can view a list of cancelled Bandai Entertainment releases over at ANN. On the manga front, Gurren Lagann volume 7 is on the list, while Turn A Gundam is one of the cancelled anime releases.

This sucks.  I loved a lot of Bandai’s published series – Cowboy Bebop, Ghost in the Shell, Escaflowne, .hack//SIGN – and more recently, I was looking forward to the second Abyss manga series to get translated. Ah well…

If SOPA existed, that wouldn’t have happened.

Shame on those online manga reader and free anime watchers out there!

Raji – I feel so guilty because  another middleman’s out of work. Did these guys who are being laid off write or illustrate manga for bandai?
No. they worked in an office. They got laid off by a corporation, like
half the rest of the Western world. Pirates aren’t to blame here. And being Pro SOPA? Shame on you.

Well, at least they said the new releases will be licensed to other companies.

The least we could do is find a way to get Bandai Entertainment to change their mind about stopping new releases.

SOPA will infringe upon your freedoms on the internet and web like never before. Be glad it has not passed!!.Just support the artists and companies that delived the product you like.  This is a real shame!
