Exclusive: Phantom Breaker To Get Special Limited Edition Release

Last night, we reported that Mages (formerly 5pb) fighting game, Phantom Breaker, will be released in North America by a newly-established publisher named 7Sixty.

We thought Southpeak Interactive might publish Phantom Breaker overseas. An Amazon listing for the game with Southpeak attached as publisher was what first tipped us off. Following that, we got in touch with Southpeak themselves, who shared with us that they were indeed considering publishing Phantom Breaker in North America.

And they still are. A Southpeak representative revealed to us this morning that 7Sixty is a brand under the Southpeak umbrella, which is why the original Amazon listing mentioned their name.

Additionally, Siliconera can exclusively reveal that Phantom Breaker will be released in a limited edition box (above) sometime in early 2012. The limited edition box will come with a mini strategy guide with tips for each of the game’s playable characters, featuring art by Phantom Breaker artist Hiro Suzuhira.

You’ll also get a desk calendar and two double-sided posters in the limited edition box. You can find Phantom Breaker’s official website here; it has a link to an Amazon pre-order page as well.

I will buy this to support more games to come over. I know the 360 had a couple of fighting games come out only in Japan.

  • http://twitter.com/Laith_Rem Laith Rem

Tempting so tempting, god why the 360 controllers are so bad and no money for a stick.

    • http://twitter.com/#!/kaishou Kaishou

They are not bad, there are some people who plays fighting games on x360 controller on tournament level. You’re just bad at using it with fighting games.

      • http://twitter.com/Laith_Rem Laith Rem

Hush I know that, let me complain about my lack of skills by projecting it on the controllers.

    • Istillduno

You could try modding one into a stick, if you have some thing you can use as a box lying around and a soldering kit it brings the cost of getting a stick down quite a bit.

      • Go2hell66

lol or you could just buy one…
i’m sure there are plenty of sticks that would end up cheaper than modding your controller…

  • Ladius

And now I feel silly for importing the Japanese limited edition XD As I said in the last thread, I’m really happy to see a new publisher joining the battle for niche localizations, and the treatment PB is going to receive already shows 7Sixty is doing a good job :)

I will gladly double dip, and I hope people give the game a chance since, while it isn’t a KoF13 by any stretch of imagination, it’s actually much more enjoyable than those accursed pre-release video seemed to imply.

Consider this preordered! I hope this means that 7Sixty will look into other games from Japan (fighting and/or JRPGs) to publish! Encouragement on their Facebook pages might help :)

  • Ladius

I agree, and considering Phantom Breaker has a rather large script for a beat’em up, if it’s successful maybe 7Sixty will consider localizing other X360 5pb games, and that would be positively GLORIOUS.

Edit: this comment was meant to answer R.B.’s post, I don’t know why Disqus screwed up :

    I don’t think I’ll put myself through watching any more coverage on this game o3o; I feel Southpeak/7Sixty, and people who pick this game are up both going to get burned, and I don’t think I can watch T3T; It’s like the worlddd’s slooowestt trainnwreeccckk T3T;;

  • nyobzoo

I would like to get this game but it’ll probably be dropped after a month of release

  • http://tristsantithesis.tumblr.com/ Tsunayoshi Sawada

There is quite an appealing character on the poster with the white background, but the other members of the cast could have used additional character design improvements, kind of unappealing.

Should convince my brother to get this on his X360.

  • Arietta8

I’m looking forward to this and will likely grab the limited edition. Admittedly, I don’t play many fighters, so I’ll be getting this primarily for Suzuhira’s artwork as well as Kurisu (and Rimi to a lesser extent).

  • Mantiskilla

I’ll probably get this game as well, but to be honest I just don’t know what kind of staying power it’ll have in the fighting game community. Looks more like a game I could see the JRPG fanbase buy more than the fighting game fanbase.  It would be nice to fight against some people online for more than the 1st month its released, but I have a feeling the game will die out within 2-3 months tops.  Played both versions of the demo awhile back and it was about what I expected.  Not polished but not clunky either

  • eliel

    is this only 4 x box360? no ps3 :/

  • cj_iwakura

Definitely want the Umineko fighter more. I’d buy a 360 if that came out here, mark me.

  • Darkrise

I’m really weak to LE’s like these… Though part of what’s holding me back is the fact that I’ve heard way too many mixed reviews about PB being ok to mediocre or just awful.

Edit: My jaw just dropped when I saw the price for the LE.

  • Istillduno

Still no European release news or news of it being region free.

    • Ladius

They have just announced the American version, I think it’s far too soon to expect any news on that front. Remember that this is a new publisher (or rather, a new division of a publishing house), and maybe they still need to consider European licensing and partnership. It’s not like niche publishers have always Europe in mind, too (Aksys and Atlus USA, for example).

  • AfroMessiah

Played the demo a long while back and I didn’t hate it, but I won’t judge the game until I have it complete in my hands. $40 is a deal and i’ve been enjoying the fighters outside the mainstream so i’ll give this a shot.

  • http://twitter.com/TheGrimHeaper The Grim Heaper

Will be buying this. If we also get Golden Fantasia, I’ll simply pass out from fighting game bliss.

  • PrinceHeir

    delicious stuff :)

i hope Arc System Works port Melty Blood AACC on consoles :)

    • Mantiskilla

Arc System Works never ported MB:AACC to PS2 Ecole did both the PS2 and PC versions.  You know Melty Blood AACC doesn’t take a very powerful PC to play it.  Not saying I don’t have one b/c I do but the specs to run the game are extremely manageable.  I’m sure most people could run it with the rigs they have right now

  • Go2hell66

    Now about that PAL version…
This seems like the kind of title europe would usually get anyway…

  • http://twitter.com/Kyogissun Philip Irwin

…So, hey, should I only buy this if I wanna see more obscure fighters here in the states?

…Or should I buy this in the hopes that they may bring Steins;Gate stateside someday?

Worth noting, I ‘did’ buy corpse party, so I gave my support there…

  • superdry

Sweet!  I am so picking this up even though I have the Japanese version already.  It also reminds me that I need to buy Corpse Party to show my support – I’d love to see more 5pb titles come out here (Dunamis15 and Bullet Soul – I can see Bullet Soul being released here at a $30-$40 price point with a soundtrack CD, it’s an easy localization job for a decen shmup).

I think it’s exciting that we’re finally seeing companies taking a bite at 5pb’s catalog.
