Step Into The World Of Spirit Camera: The Cursed Memoir This April

Surprise! How many of you expected Nintendo’s Fatal Frame spin-off, Shinrei Camera, to make its way out of Japan? Yeah, me neither. But, somehow, we’ve all been warped into this crazy alternate dimension where someone decided it would be a good idea to bring the game over!

Spirit Camera: The Cursed Memoir, Nintendo of America say, is about a girl named Maya. She’s hiding in an old house and it’s your job to help her escape from the mysterious woman in black.

Step Into The World Of Spirit Camera: The Cursed Memoir This April

As previously reported, Spirit Camera is an augmented reality game. It comes with a 16-page AR book, called “The Diary of Faces”. You view the pages of the diary through the Nintendo 3DS camera to enter the AR world. Sometimes, these pages will reveal flashback scenes via movies. Other times, they’ll make ghosts attack you.

Spirit Camera: The Cursed Memoir is slated for release on — wait for it — Friday, April 13th. You can watch an older Japanese trailer for the game here.

Hey NOE you had a great run up until now,so please don’t let NOA beat you this time!Do your magic!

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/jodecideion?feature=mhum TheWon and Only

It could be that the system is still young in it’s life span. That Nintendo is willing to bring it over to see if there is an audience. It could be a deal that Tecmo, and Nintendo since they seem buddy buddy right now. Either way let’s hope more Japanese games come our way. Then let’s hope people that said they want these games will buy them.

  • Go2hell66

Damn didn’t see that coming, way to go NOA

  • aoihana

How many of you expected Nintendo’s Fatal Frame spin-off, Shinrei Camera, to make its way out of Japan?

I expect the unexpected, so I saw this coming a mile away. ( ̄^ ̄✿)

Honestly, I never would’ve guessed this would make it overseas, but glad to see it did! Although, I don’t think I’ll be playing it. It’s scary, you know! (/.\✿)

    • http://twitter.com/DanijoEX DanijoEX

I’m surprised that it would be released here. I’m sure that many people are happy now that it is.

  • Enma_Kozato

New sleep over game right here~

  • malek86

I’m not really hearing the best things about this game, but if it does come out in Europe, why not?

“How many of you expected Nintendo’s Fatal Frame spin-off, Shinrei Camera, to make its way out of Japan?”

I actually did. It’s the FF2 remake I’m worried about.

  • http://twitter.com/sheleigha Shel

Colour me shocked!! This was the LAST game I expected to be localized… Am I happy though? Yes, oh yes…

  • http://gloopyeegra.wordpress.com/ Arla

The AR book is why I thought this wouldn’t get localized, glad to see it still is. I just got all  three PS2 Fatal Frames for ~$50 on Amazon. I’ve already got the FFIV english patch. Getting this 3DS version will complete my Fatal Frame collection. =)

Now I just need to finish backlog to get to them….

    • http://www.siliconera.com Ishaan

“Getting this 3DS version will complete my Fatal Frame collection.”

Until that Fatal Frame 2 remake comes out, bwahahaha. The AR book is only 16 pages, so it isn’t too bad. That more or less amounts to the size of a regular game manual.

      • http://gloopyeegra.wordpress.com/ Arla

Oh man you’re right. I always forget about Fatal Frame Wii. Maybe that gets pushed to Wii U or 3DS or something. I’ll gladly still take it on Wii though. I wasn’t aware of the size of the AR book until now. I guess it’s not that bad, I wasn’t expecting a Ni No Kuni size tome but I figured it be a bit bigger.

  • Gatchaman1

Awesome news but I gotta say

It’s kinda sad that news like this is considered surprising this gen when the last two gens we would have no problem getting games like this

    • malek86

Actually, I’m not so sure. Fatal Frame jumped around publishers a lot, which probably means sales were low enough that no one publisher was willing to localize the series again after one game. Also, I seem to remember the USA not getting Siren 2 on the PS2. And there was that Rule of Rose game.

While this time around, we even got some niche stuff like The Calling and Corpse Party. So yeah, as far as survival horrors go, I think we weren’t off so bad this gen.

      • Gatchaman1

We didnt get Night of Sacrifice (probably the only reason I’d get a Wii Fit board)
We didn’t get Fatal Frame IV
        We didn’t get Twilight Syndrome

Now in terms of non horror games:
We still have no U.S. confirmation for The Last Story or Pandora’s Tower
We didn’t get a U.S. release for Another Code R or Disaster Day of Crisis
We didn’t get a U.S. release for NDS version of Ni No Kuni
We got no Bleach games for PSP, U.S. didn’t get the One Piece Unlimited Cruise sequels, no main series Gundam games besides the awful Crossfire, lack of certain Tales games and dozens of other PSP/DS games that never made it overseas.

Don’t forget about Nanashi no Game, which we got denied because of a focus group.

          • PrinceHeir

i recently watch the gameplay videos, and it’s definitely one of the scariest games out there O___O

          • Gatchaman1

oh yeah. BOTH games (it had a sequel)

        • PrinceHeir

don’t remind me of those!!!!!! T______T

kinda sucks we missed out alot of amazing games for the Wii.

especially Fatal Frame IV since Grasshopper Manufacturer had a hand in the development of the game.

      • http://myanimelist.net/profile/Kuronoa Kuronoa

Oh you mean Europe.  Tecmo published all the games in the US.  We also gotten Rule of Rose…

  • Dantis

    European release pl0x?

If this doesn’t get released over here, I’ll be gosh-darned unhappy.

  • http://twitter.com/KeionKirby HoshiKirby

Xenoblade and this? NoA seems to be redeeming themselves this year :3

    I like it.

  • http://myanimelist.net/profile/Kuronoa Kuronoa

It’s coming over?  OMG I am so happy hopefully it sells well so we can change Nintendo’s questionable localization practices.

    • http://www.siliconera.com Ishaan

      BWAHAHAHAHAHA. Sells well. :D

    • James Beatty

People who want more odd/japanese games to be localized need to speak with their wallets. For the operation rainfall guys, buy Xenoblade. Money speaks louder than whining to Reggie. As for this game, it looks interesting, and i’ll buy it, but i doubt it will sell well, Xenoblade has a good chance to sell well in the states thanks to the big “marketing campaign” Operation rainfall.

  • SirRichard

C’mon, Nintendo of Europe, don’t fail us now, not after your recent spectacular work. Stuff like this is what the 3DS definitely, almost desperately needs!

  • kylehyde

The best news of the day. Being honest I never expected this anouncement, however is good to hear this. Now is time for us to make our part by buying the game and show that this kind of games have a good market.

  • http://twitter.com/ChaseBurr Chase Bonner

OMG hell yes ! ! !Day one !!

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jimmy-McKee/100000472580937 Jimmy McKee

The sad truth is that gamers today abuse the “money talks” principal by buying nothing but FPS Games, GTA Clones, annual retail only roster updated Madden games and Fighters and an occasional “hardcore game” like Batman: Arkham City

As for genres like JRPG/RPG, they treat’em like dirt.. if you take a look at the sales charts, basically if your JRPG’s name ain’t either Dragon Quest, Kingdom Hearts or Final Fantasy.. your game is toast

The sad fact that Gamers today would rather tote a gun and mow down “n00bs”, zombies and terrorists rather than play anything else like this and Xenoblade says quite a lot

NOTE: I’m not being “elitist” here, I’m basing this fact on the unfortunate sales trends of video games since the days of the original Xbox

  • http://twitter.com/revenantsoul Maeri

Im so excited. But I agree, pigs must be flying somewhere…

  • Juuu

    ALL OF MY JOY.

NOA and NOE have been getting a really good track record lately. I hope this means a return to form in satisfying all sorts of gamer, rather than just “Hey we’ll release this stuff to calm the PR storms and then go back to a steady diet of Mario/Zelda/Pokemanz”

Hopefully this brings about a way for more developers to see new sorts of uses for AR! :] Ones that are really intuitive and contribute to the game as a whole.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1769064526 Vivian Mai

HELL YES. List of 3DS games to get once I get a 3DS just got bigger!

I can just imagine though, Gamestop selling used copies of this game w/o the AR book…

  • theworldofnoboundries

LOl this should be fun to see when NoA fans vs NoE fans this year lol. Lets see who will be able to bring more game to each region from Japan.

As for this game i can only said: DAY ONE BABY!!!

  • RablaAndrews

Now all I need is Senran Kagura.

  • neetyneety

weird that they decided to bring this over, I mean, part of the atmosphere in the game is in how the spirits and ghost actually blend well with Japanese surroundings and history i.e. washitsu, tatami mats and all that
I’m guessing most of this would be lost in translation….. that being said, I’m buying this game on day 1.
