Zombies Are Back In Resident Evil 6, Leons New Partner Is Helena

Capcom held a Resident Evil anniversary event in Tokyo yesterday, where they revealed a few more details about Resident Evil 6. To recap, Resident Evil 6 stars Leon and Chris, each being featured in different locales. Chris, for example, will be in China, which is said to be the main stage for the game.

Leon’s partner in the game is Helena Harper (above), who’s providing security detail for the president when he’s attacked. Following the attack and the president’s tranformation, the two end up working together. The game also has a third main character (below), who is featured in the trailer. Capcom are placing an emphasis on human drama in Resident Evil 6.

Zombies Are Back In Resident Evil 6, Leons New Partner Is Helena

Capcom say they’re aiming to make Resident Evil 6 the “best in horror entertainment”. Zombies are back in this game, although, just why they’re back is a secret so far. Resident Evil 6 will also feature an enemy called “J’avo,” but all we have on that front is a name so far.

Regarding the recent announcement trailer, Capcom say the ratio of gameplay footage to cutscenes is about 7:3 or 6:4, even though it may not appear that way. The scale of Resident Evil 6 is the most vast of the series to date, and this is reflected in the game’s development staff. The total development staff amounts to over 600 people. Over 150 of those people are in Japan.

This looks sick! I thought 4 was better than 5, in terms of story and scare, so hopefully we get the best one with 6. Looks good.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_WPGDGULMOAZSIEIA5Y4BEHL6JU wtfhappenedtoallthenames

I agree. I didn’t like 5 so much, there was nothing scary about it at all.

  • JustThisOne

YES YES YES! I miss zombies. Y’know, the ones that just sit there in the middle of a narrow alleyway, and suddenly come to life when you walk past them. Also, remember how they sounded like an old man groaning? “Muuauggghh.” Good ol’ t-virus zombies. And crimson heads. And zombie dogs.

    • Testsubject909

What I would give to see some more of that freaky Parasite Eve 1 mitochondria mutant creature intermixed in a survival horror game…

  • http://twitter.com/DanijoEX DanijoEX

I wonder what key elements they’ll using.

    • Testsubject909

Well… Let’s take an analytical look at the announcement trailer maybe.

I’m just giving this a shot for kicks, anyone else feel free to join me here.

Ahem. Here’s the announcement trailer, and here are my notes:
      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DJTzjPjaYd0

Actually… I’ll compress the whole thing, I wrote down piece by piece, nearly scene by scene what I could find and it’s damn long. I can press page up 4 times in my notepad to give you an idea. I’ll provide time stamps in parenthesis

From the whole thing it feels… Odd, disjointed perhaps?

The beginning (0:00) is simple enough, we get a spider web for six which gives a greater sense of intrigue, perhaps what they’re going for. But it can also mean something along the lines of being trapped or being interconnected, which we’re going to be looking into as we go.

It’s a mashup of many things and they seem somewhat disconnected from one another. We’re mainly shown with Leon (0:10) dealing with all the more horror-esque aspects (0:10-1:30), whenever he’s on screen we get that sensation of dread, that feel of a horror game and with the weapon shown, a simple handgun, an idea of limited resources.

He’s dealing with a woman [edit] (Helena, for a moment I forgot it was her) [/edit] who blames herself for the whole dealing who behaves in a similar fashion to Naomi in MGS4, also we see that he’s there at the death of the president himself (0:15-0:40) which drives in the idea that nobody’s quite safe. We also get one glimpse at a name: Adam (0:27). In terms of gameplay we see they’re aiming for a more atmospheric take, a more confined (0:47), one against many and at times claustrophobic (0:59) and naturally dangerous area (1:24).

Judging from all of that. Leon is dealing with what’s in the shadows, in the background, digging deep into the cause of it all, at the heart of the matter and at great risks taking the odd route in a city shown that’s quite reminiscent to Racoon city, as told in trailer (1:14). And perhaps that’s also what the makers wanted to do, a sort of partial throwback to the feel in the older games.

When we see Chris on screen (1:33), we see an army, we see G.I.Joe, he’s armed to the teeth, he’s a walking tank, but they’re smart enough to show that he’s still in a very vulnerable position, this is smartly done by making most of what you see with him look like your generic third person shooter in a darker setting with cover everywhere. But he never takes cover in any shot until at 2:45, he does so in a rather linear looking area only to be grabbed and taken out. It gives the idea that no place and no one is safe. Especially when you contrast Chris to the other two playable protagonist shown (Leon and… the other guy, sorry, never saw him before, didn’t play all the RE games so…)

He’s shown as involved in his own way, he states himself that he’s come to face the truth and accept responsibility (1:33 again) and later it’s reinforced that a woman is behind it [edit] (Though it feels as though said woman is more vile and cruel, so I’m not sure he’s talking about Helena, though it might still be her in which case he’s just judging from the outcome) [/edit] and that he’s got a rather personal reason as well (2:40). He definitely feels more like an action game that happens to have a dark story set to it.

Chris is most likely taken there from a more official route, probably there to suppress the threat and is probably starting from the surface digging down, providing two drastically different viewpoints of the same event when paired with Leon. There’s no denying, whenever he’s on it feels like RE5.

Then we have… our third guy. I’m just going to call him 3rd for now. He’s introduced as possibly a mercenary? (1:58) Similarily to Leon, he’s shown with almost no resources, at first being weaponless (2:01) and eventually shown with a handgun (2:13, you can spot it as he jumps over) it looks as though most of what you’ll be doing with him is… probably running (2:13 again). Also, he may or may not have armed forces against him (2:09) and… he’s got company in the form of… Ashley? Wow, she looks hotter (2:07).

He’s never shown actually using his gun though, he just runs, fends enemies off with his hands, gets attacked and… Runs. His importance though? It’s hinted at when Ashley states that the world needs him (2:17) and that his blood is key (2:26), most likely a cure.

The 3rd is… The odd one out. Honestly he feels like… He feels like Nathan Drake, each time I see him on, I think Indiana Jones with giant zombies or Uncharted. Yes it’s survival, but it feels more like a save the world grand adventure type of deal. He’s not directly involved in any way but he’s a key player solely by what he is, at least as far as we’ve been shown to date and we can only guess as to why Ashley is with him. Unless he’s someone in RE that I really should be able to recognize in which I’m sorry for long time fans, please do enlighten me.

So… I have no idea what direction they’re going. This feels like… This feels like Spiderman Shattered Dimension. One game providing different takes pending which protagonist is controlled and most likely requiring all three to get the full picture in all it’s intricacy and… I have no idea if they’ll pull it off well.

this game better be good if 600 people is working on it.

Capcom, please dont mess this up.(Operation:Raccoon city *cough cough*)

    • Solomon_Kano

One thing: Capcom isn’t developing Raccoon City, so that’s a poor reference for something they “messed up”. Their name may be on it, but that’s still Slant Six’s territory.

    • Yu_TheKing

Wrong developer and how is the game messed up?

  • aoihana

Yeah, from the trailer in the last article, I could of sworn there were zombies in the game, but in some instances, they looked a lot like plagas. Regardless, I’m pretty stoked for zombies, that’s just awesome! (^v^)

Helena looks pretty hot and interesting, but I hope this doesn’t mean Ada is out of the question, I would love it if she made the cut. (◕‿◕✿)

    • Testsubject909

The instances in which they look more like plagas seems to be when it’s unrelated to Leon.

Notice that the more atmospheric horror aspects are typically shown when you’re in control of Leon, while for Chris and… third guy, it’s mainly action.

And I take it Ada with a red dress, absolutely and without fail with a red dress?

    • TheDarkEmpress

RE5 was a blast, horror or not.

      • http://www.youtube.com/user/Kamek20xxExtra?feature=mhee Michael Stevens

Yeah it was really fun, but just not as entertaining as RE4 or as horrific as the classic RE games. Still really fun though. I loved Sheva a lot, but they could’ve either kept Wesker or make a much better death for him IMO, hence I didn’t really like the ending as much as many others. I’m sure this game’s better and much more horrific though. :)

        • Testsubject909

*Puts Sheva in little red riding hood style outfit, goes playing Mercenary mode with friends*

          yup… Sheva’s real nice…

    • Testsubject909

It could be that they’re mainly separate. I made one huge long wall of text I’m sure some people will break their noses against, but put extra extra short.

Whenever it’s Leon in the trailer, it’s atmospheric, creepy, feels like RE4 and tense with the world against you (is that a train in the tunnel? oh y-I’m dead)

With Chris, it feels like an action figure going in to save the day, hell he even deals with a cameraman before going into the action, though it hints that cover won’t protect you too well, so it’ll be tense action as far as I can tell.

And the third guy? Whenever he’s on it looks as though I’m looking at an Uncharted clone. Also, he seems like a civilian compared to the other two…

Makes you wonder how they’ll combine all three well enough. And considering we’ll have three perspective, I’m getting flashbacks of Spiderman Shattered Dimension.

  • Ereek

Resident Evil’s main series is still horror?

    Could have fooled me.

  • Lexaus_the_Alchemist

I want this new “horror and entertainment” to top last year’s Dead Space 2. Truth be told, EA and Viseral have been doing pretty well and I want to see if Capcom can reclaim their throne.

  • Solomon_Kano

Zombie killing in China. They already sold me whether this ends up being the “best in horror entertainment” or not.

Hopefully, they’ll find a good balance of horror to… whatever they’re calling 5 now. If it’s as it looks and they’re making each character cater to a different aspect of the series, then that should be fine.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Farid-Belkacemi/1073052585 Farid Belkacemi

The key word : CHINA ! Zombies will be EVERYWHERE :D

      • Solomon_Kano

Yesss! It’s such an exciting thought, isn’t it? That talk about scale doesn’t seem to just be hype.

        • Aoshi00

It’s not really mainland China here, but Hong Kong is pretty cramped too w/ 7 million people (when I left a long time ago it used to be 6 :).. (I know HK is a part of China now, but people still make the distinction btwn China, Taiwan, and the 2 SARs HK and Macau, like FF13 was released in HK and Taiwan but not China)..

          • Solomon_Kano

Ah. Didn’t know people made a distinction between them still. I’ve always addressed it as a part of China. Actual geography aside, it still makes for a very interesting location.

You lived there though? That’s cool. I love traveling.

          • Aoshi00

Yeah, I grew up there and lived there about half of my life :).  Not sure if most know, HK was a British colony until the handover back to China in 1997 (Macau was a Portuguese colony until 99).  Even though HK is officially part of China again now, technically it’s still a Special Administrative Region w/ its own judicial, political system, economy (of course it’s more connected to China now compared to before 97), stock exchange, entertainment industry, etc.  Hong Kong still has its own currency HK dollar (not the Chinese currency yuan/renminbi) and a different Olympics team too like how Taiwan has Chinese Taipei.  So it’s quite different when people talk about zombies in China (I guess it’s 7 million instead of 1.4 billion, it is a very cramped city w/ tons of skyscrapers though :).. but it’s more specifically in the city of Hong Kong and not mainland.  Hong Kong still has a lot of cultural friction w/ mainland China too due to various reasons.

From what I watched and read, it seems like RE6 takes place in HK specifically rather than other Chinese cities.  I was just making a point that I don’t think gamers in HK would be offended by Chinese zombies, people there are quite open to Jpn pop culture/anime/games/music for decades :) In fact I just browsed thru some facebook comments, there’s a pun on one of the store signs that says “芒亨獸醫診所”, meaning “MonHun” Vet Clinic.. which I didn’t catch since I don’t really read gaming materials in Chinese lol.. so they found it funny Capcom sneaked that in..

Also traditional Chinese is used in HK/Taiwan rather than simplified Chinese (which is used by mainland China and Singapore), and of course HK people don’t speak Mandarin if they don’t feel like learning it. Personally I dislike needing to learn simplified, but it is hard not to now…

          • Solomon_Kano

I see why the distinction between HK and China is important now considering all the differences you listed, so now I feel like I’ve learned something today haha. I’m always interested to here about other countries, so thanks.

The MH reference in Chinese is cool. I always love when little easter eggs like that show up in games. I never would’ve known about that one if you hadn’t said something, but it’s a cool reference nonetheless.

      • Yu_TheKing

I know right? I honestly believe it wont be that similar to CoD in any way.

        • Luna Kazemaru

It’s not because then it would have to be a FPS they didn’t say they want the game to be like CoD they just want expand the fan base and adding abit of action would do so. The thing is you always have those type of gamers that hates some try of change.

RE 6 looks pretty action like, but im sure they will balance the stuff with more actual horror this time, the guys at capcom are not stupid and they know that re 5 performed porly in the “horror” department, thats why they are hoping to balance the horror with the action. have faith my friend…..

    • Solomon_Kano

“Waiting for them to screw up Mega Man’s anniversary also.”

… who else’s anniversary did they screw up?

      • Testsubject909

I’m now making a scenario in my head, on someone’s birthday they get Marvel vs Capcom 3, and all is good and fun and exciting, then someone logs online as they wait their turn for some vs play and find news that Capcom is going to be releasing Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 in a short period of time.

Then on another person’s birthday after all the celebration is done and over, they come home to look at some gaming news, and finds that Megaman Legends 3 is cancelled.

That’s a few ways Capcom screwed some anniversaries.

I’m just curious as to why nobody is crying that RE6 is racist towards the chinese. Maybe it’s a matter of time.

    • Aoshi00

From the videos and screenshots I’ve seen, the locale looks to be specifically Hong Kong rather than mainland China (the characters on the store signs are traditional Chinese, not simplified), and HK has been used in tons of anime and games as a backdrop in the past.. If that’s really the case, I don’t see any unwarranted outcry.. HK was even in the movie Contagion.. also isn’t this more like a global outbreak? I don’t know if they would do other Chinese cities, but the screenshots are no doubt of Hong Kong. I’m pretty sure HK gamers won’t have a problem w/ a high profile game featuring their city. It’s cool too since Capcom must have done their research to make the locations more believable..

      • s07195

        >_>
        <_<
        Is that right…

        j/k

        • Aoshi00

When I used to live in HK, I would get excited when I see it featured in anime or games.. like the Psyco Gundam episodes w/ Four Murasame in Zeta Gundam, or Cyber Formula..  but yea, this game takes place in more than one location, so you get white zombies and Asian zombies, I don’t see any big deal… at the end, everyone is a zombie :)  I thought RE5 was quite fun, so looking forward to RE6.  I won’t complain about games not being scary though since I’m a chicken, it’s hard for me to get thru Bioshock or Dead Space alrdy, even Extraction scares me :) I love the mix of action and horror.

BTW, there’s a shot w/ “芒亨獸醫診所”, it’s a pun for “MonHun” Vet Clinic, so definitely set in Hong Kong :) Seems like all the gamers in HK recognized it alrdy..

          • thebanditking

Agreed, RE was always a mix or horror and action anyway. RE2 and 3 started that trend and its what made it great, because the games were always just scary enough to keep you tense and all the cryptic journal entries you read enforced that trapped/stranded feeling. RE was never straight up horror, like say Silent Hill or Siren. I did not like the direction 4/5 took to move away from traditional BOW’s but I really enjoyed 5′s story, because of all the Umbrella tie ins.

          • Aoshi00

Yeah, personally I can’t play games like Silent Hill or Siren, my heart can’t take it.. but if you throw in some action into the mix, I won’t feel as claustrophobic every second.. I like to pick up the journals (or audio tapes in Bioshock) scattered across the areas to find out the backstory as well, really engrossing like you are walking into a trap..

Would be cool if they have an area w/ rain.. that would look beautiful and creepy.. I still have the Umbrellla messenger bag, too bad it’s so flimsy and really can’t be used :(..

    • Testsubject909

It’s the US that was crying foul the most. And typically if it’s not black centric, most people will typically overlook it as it’s not as touchy an issue.

For example, Chinese people were taken from their country, some fooled into paying to come willingly only to be used as slave labor and you rarely hear that come up. Or that time when Japanese people were put in something similar to German camps on western soil but that also rarely comes up.

      [edit]
And then there’s the matter of whitewashing IPs. Like the Akira live action movie by Hollywood that’ll have, as far as I’ve heard to date, zero asian actors.

  • 27CansOfTuna

I wish they had discussed Umbrella Corp, I dont recall a single mention of them in the trailer. That being said, I was so caught up in it that I couldnt tell between gameplay and cutscene. Nice.

    • http://twitter.com/monkeyking2135 monkey king

Umbrella got shutdown in 2003/2004, this game is in 2008, and tricell is from RE5 which is 2009.

Capcom can’t win in the horror industry unless they can take out DEAD SPACE, which I highly doubt.

    • TheDarkEmpress

Dead Space wasn’t scary at all…Quite sure everyone has a different idea as to what’s scary and what isn’t. And me? Not Dead Space…I hated that game, not fun, not scary, not good.

      • http://www.facebook.com/elbandorito Justin McFarland

Well I hope you’re not implying resident evil is particularly scary either.

        • TheDarkEmpress

I personally don’t think anything is scary…..Only thing that even comes close to being somewhat creepy is the earlier Silent Hills, everything else? Nay. But Resident Evil is definitely fun, with a cool premise to boot.

    • Testsubject909

      Space that is dead?

I know one particular Personality Core that’s going to be pretty sad about that.

    • thebanditking

You mean so long as EA does not turn it into a squad based FPS right?

  • TheDarkEmpress

I truly have faith in Capcom. Resident Evil 5 was a blast, yes it diverted from the horror aspect, but did it do it gracefully? You bet your ass. And once again, the co-op made the game…I feel bad for any poor SOB that trudged their way through the game solo, because truly, the co-op was just too fun. I seriously hope RE6 contains alot of the same aspects, because my body is ready for moar.

    • Kai2591

Resident Evil 5 sucked, if it even remotely resembles that game I hope fails. It didn’t divert from the horror aspect because there was no horror in it and they didnt intend for it to have horror anyway.Their main audience for RE5(and probably this game)are micheal bay fans,COD fans,Gears fans, and uncharted fans.

I feel bad for anyone who bought RE5 who thought they were going to get a good singleplayer experience or maybe a tiny smidget of survival horror.

      • shublue9000

Enjoy your Gears with zombies then.

        • WilliamJasper

How is this related to GoW with the exception of being a shooter? I would like an explanation, please.

          • landlock

The bit in the trailer which had Chris sliding behind cover and then getting pulled out by the creature screamed Gears Of War. Doesn’t help that Chris is built like a tank aswell now. They’ve clealy taken influence from GOW.

          • Aoshi00

Sakaguchi admitted Last Story was also influenced by Gears too, the terrains and cover system (he was a big fan of the game, the reason how I got into Gears :), I don’t think it’s such a bad thing.. I guess the sliding is kinda like Vanquish too lol..

          • Solomon_Kano

Chris sliding into cover screamed Vanquish to me, but ok.

“I feel bad for anyone who bought RE5 who thought they were going to get a

      horror.”

No need. I’m sure many had that “tiny smidget” of survival horror there. Not as scary as the past games, but still pretty freaky, well at least freaky enough to even be called a horror game (whether it frightens people or not. It has the horror elements). Despite that they could’ve done better with RE5 IMO, I absolutely enjoyed the game nevertheless, I’m glad that I purchased my copy of the game, and I’m very sure that I’m not the only one.

      • shublue9000

The only thing scary about RE5 was seeing Chris Punch Boulders with his bare hands.

Resident Evil 5 IS a survival horror game, but just in a different way, not like in previous installments. Gameplay was brilliant and intense. I played it many times and I absolutely love it. So you don’t need to feel bad for me either.

Capcom might not followed series roots in 5th installment, but at least
it’s not destroying franchise by removing fan favorite elements from the game. You can see the evolution of the franchise not degradation. Like
in case with… well, doesn’t matter.

      oh, and Chris Redfield Roxxx.

    • midgard229

ShuBlue, why don’t you Shoo and cry Boohoo because no one cares what you think, resident evil 5 was the funnest in the series and thats all that matters, I dont want no slow gameplay, bad camera and horrible aiming from the first game, the zombies were freakin optional kills in the originals cuz the game was a puzzle game with a horror theme, wasn’t even scary.

me and my fiance adore RE5, and cant wait for six

  • kuro_chan666

To make Biohazard 6 the best horror game in industry, Capcom will have to make a game with firearms to be a better horror than Zero series, that IS the best horror game series. Biohazard never was a real horror game, only Biohazard Revelations has something of horror, but not enough to come close even to Zero: Shisei no Koe.
Capcom will fail, and they don’t even know it.
    Though, they’ll probably make a good action/shooter.

  • Raiu

“Capcom say they’re aiming to make Resident Evil 6 the “best in horror entertainment”.”

Unless if it’s at the same level of horror as ‘Dark Amnesia’ or ‘Fatal Frame’, I don’t think it’s worth the hype it’s supposed to.

BTW, I’m new here and I hope to get along with you all…

    • Testsubject909

That’s okay. Just join in the insanity every now and again.
[edit] (Had to fix every. I wrote it as ever, my bad) [/edit]

Beware Michael though, he doesn’t react well to teasing, sends him into a blind murderous rage. And a few others but I think if I say more I might need to start working on an airship for a rapid escape.

      • Raiu

Funny…. Insanity never fails to attract someone(like me….).

I keep that in mind, thanks. I don’t think I can build an airship in a short period of time though. An underground-digging-mole-transportation might be enough. :)

  • SeventhEvening

The game looks massive from the trailer, and I’m pretty interested to see more about it. Leon’s plot looks like it is going back to the roots of the series, while Chris seems to be….well…continuing whatever was happening in 5. That should provide something for everyone. I hope.

  • http://twitter.com/AceOfCakez Ace

I wonder if they’re gonna find some BS way to revive Wesker and use him as a plot device. =)

    • Testsubject909

      …BS way to ‘REVIVE’ Wesker…

…Zombies are back in Resident Evil 6…

I wonder how they’ll ever revive someone in Resident Evil 6.

      [edit]
And yes. I know how Wesker died in Resident Evil 5. But considering how he was bobbing in and out of that without looking melted in any way possible. I’m pretty sure there are ways of fishing him out.

      • heartless141

“And finally, we have a yet-unnamed male who some are speculating to be
Alex Wesker, the child of a DNA research project who was named after the
project’s head, eternal RE villain Albert Wesker. Whoever this man is,
he seems to be a bio-weapons dealer of sorts, and is accompanied by a
blonde-haired female who may—or may not—be RE4 heroine Ashley Graham.
(No confirmation that it is her, but it sure sounds like her voice.)”

    • thebanditking

Maybe but that blad guy running around with Ashley is rumored to be one of the Wesker clones, Alex to be precise, the same one mentioned by Spencer in his notes.

    • RablaAndrews

6 is 10 years after the Raccoon City Incident.

      5 is 11 years after.

Wesker isn’t even dead (again) yet.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_OCJYEVQQAFJSGVHS4JYLAODYYI Fernando

I’m hyped for the leon parts, not so much the chris parts, as I’m guessing Leon will get to fight zombies while chris fights more advanced BOWs and terrorists. didn’t care much for RE5 so i’ll admit I’m biased towards the older entries

  • thebanditking

This game has me torn right now, the Leon parts look awesome while the Chris parts look a little generic. I remember all the rumors about RE6 being set in China looks like they were half right.

That said I think the development of this game might be even more interesting and confusing then RE4. I wonder if the game was originally intended to be split like this or if because of backlash they added the Leon section at some later point, would explain why it took so long for this to show up.

Also anyone else notice that Leon looks very similar to his RE:Degeneration/Damnation style? Which brings up another point, we have not seen the new CG movie in a long time, so I wonder if some of that script got used to make Leon’s story for this game. Would explain why Hunnigan is back in (she was in Degeneration) and why his parts look and feel similar to what we have seen of that movie.

    • Luna Kazemaru

SO what you saying just because its looks like its a cover base system and Chris is unloading on what seems to be zombies mean it likes like to be a generic shooter? I am going to be honest with you the reaction this trailer is getting is ending up up wow. I been playing RE since RE1 and since nothing wrong with them wanted to put alitte more action in there but from most people reactions of late all i see is things blowing up+gunning down hordes of zombies+ action= generic shooter…starting to thing people don’t know what generic means now days.

      • thebanditking

I did not see any Zombies in the Chris parts, just lab workers in gas masks with guns and some hints of the Majini/plagas. My knee jerk reaction was a bit harsh but if the Chris parts are just more fast paced but still feature actual zombies and other BOW’s then I will likely love it, kind of like the Mercs mode in RE3.

        • Luna Kazemaru

Don’t get me wrong I agree about the BOW thing because they went something I could say this is that slaying the undead feel what I’m saying is I don’t understand where all this talk about saying its going to be generic from one video. Can’t really judge it to you aleast get a demo.

  • Eilanzer

    i smell the same fps’ish feeling of RE4 and 5 =/
Where is the hopeless and bizarre atmosphere of being left “alone” in a house/complex/city without much hope?!?!?!?! =S
The leon first part in the trailer was ok…But Chris and the call of duty sensation was bad…just bad and not resident evil at all!!!

    • Luna Kazemaru

I honestly do not see how you can see the CoD in a game that’s not even a FPS.

      • Eilanzer

i really don’t like to see that, but  i see =/
in the second part of the trailer i see cod, gears of war and a lot of the same package =/
I just want a game hard as hell, with basically no ammunition, nicely done puzzles, a well-written script, a bleak and desolate atmosphere, and enemies with enough charisma to kill you XD
I’m asking too much?! perhaps <_<

        • Luna Kazemaru

Right because you can’t have that when action is going around. I love how most of the people talking about the game are saying it looks like CoD and gears when it doesn’t….oh what cover system= one of the known FPSs. Zombies are not the only things Leon and Chris have to deal with so so Chris having to kill a few human’s seems like it would come along. Also both of them have been into it with the out breaks before so yes they should have the ‘power’ to be able to man up and take down zombies gunning them down is just one thing. Everyone judging this game in some silly way just because of that link below or by this one video may need to rethink how they take on games.

          • icecoffemix

He think it looks like CoD with the intense battlefield feel, which if you think the Chris part doesn’t look like it you need to check your eyes, and he just want to have old school horror feel of RE back, I see that’s a valid reason to complain.

Though it’s still too early to judge the game, much else with a single trailer.

          • http://twitter.com/zeldana zeldana

I don’t even play CoD/Gears of War and seeing the trailer made me instantly think of them. So, yeah, there definitely is a resemblance.

          • icecoffemix

Err, I think that would make your opinion null. (Yes, I’ve played CoD, at least the first MW).

        • Guest

Yeah but, the RE games never had good stories, ever. RE4 is the one that actually has a watchable story, the game was more self-aware about the cheesy B movie plots these games have. So, instead of pretending this was written by Ray Bradbury, or that this is high brow material, the game had fun with the story and the characters. The puzzles in the RE games have also never been about super complicated mechanics, that’s what Silent Hill used to do good. RE4 pulled the desolated atmosphere quite good. As for the ammo, go with a knife-and-gun-only run. People still do that even in RE4 and 5.

  • http://twitter.com/choosyant dan aubin

So… Resident Evil turning into CoD.

    Sigh.

    • Luna Kazemaru

I could compare them both to prove this wrong but at this point not even going to try anymore.

      • http://twitter.com/choosyant dan aubin

Sigh, obviously I am not saying it is a FPS where you throw frag grenades and kill each other online. What I am saying is, it is, in fact turning into an action game, like CoD. I want a survival game, like it was.

Let me back up my comment with a quote:

”The dream would be that the millions of Call of Duty fans that are enjoying these fast-paced online games are attracted to this Resident Evil,” Turner said.

”We’ve seen the popularity of Resident Evil increase massively as the series became more action oriented – Resident Evil 5 is the biggest seller in the series,” he said. “So, it makes sense for us to follow this action area more fully.”

For some reason it got deleted.

        • Guest

Well, yes and no. It’s obvious Capcom wants to appeal to action-game oriented fans, but this doesn’t have to be a bad thing per se. RE4 was very action oriented, but it still had a good atmosphere, and most important, the action had a good sense of pacing. Giving an action angle to the RE franchise doesn’t turn it into whatever generic FPS is popular these days. Your statement was just way too broad, again, there can be good action mechanics in a game. Is not the what but the how that matters, RE4 did it right, RE5 didn’t, let’s see how RE6 turns out to be.

          • http://twitter.com/choosyant dan aubin

I agree. My real point is, Resident Evil is changing, and for me and I am sure many others how it was in the earlier titles (RE1-3): puzzles, survival, etc are what we loved about it.

So while, making it more action orientated is definently not making it into a CoD clone, that fact alone is depressing. I think a lot of games are taking this approach because it appeals to the masses. This generation, wanting immediate satisfaction and less willing to be stuck on a puzzle or annoyed by survival than the instantaneous satisfaction of blowing things away, while epic explosions go off in the background.

Just my opinion on the next-gen game woe.

          • Guest

It’s not depressing if it’s as good as RE4, again, that game did it right.

    • Guest

So, because there’s shooting involved, it turns this into a FPS by default?

    • http://twitter.com/nozomi429 Nozomi

I’d have to disagree. Even if the game play is similar to CoD, the story is still as engaging as previous entries. This article even says, “Capcom are placing an emphasis on human drama in Resident Evil 6.” Have you played CoD campaign?

  • SetzerGabbiani

Leon reminds me of Timothy Olyphant (Justified) in that trailer.

  • Guest

Seems many didn’t pay attention to the part where Chris slides to cover himself, right after that he gets grabbed by some monster. I liked that, it’s a nice way to keep the players in their toes. It would be a huge improvement over the boring duck-and-shoot parts of RE5 (and of almost any other third person shooter in the market right now) Maybe Capcom is really getting into work in those action parts.

    • Luna Kazemaru

People are to busy comparing it to games that they are nothing alike to to notice it.

    • Exkaiser

Yeah, I was thinking that was a nice twist on the whole cover system.

BOWs don’t give a damn about knee-high walls.

  • Yu_TheKing

I’d actually like to see a type of survival mode; like mercenaries mode but without the time limit and more zombies in a small area. That’d be awesome.

    • Luna Kazemaru

Mercenaries will most likely make a return I don’t think they would take something like that out. As long as I get to play as S.T.A.R’s wesker i’m good/
