Mewtwo Teleporting To Pokémon Black And White In North America

Mewtwo Teleporting To Pokémon Black And White In North America

Last year, The Pokémon Company gave away a special Mewtwo for a limited time over Wi-Fi to Pokémon Black/White owners in Japan. Now, that giveaway event is headed to North America.

Starting February 12th, The Pokémon Company will begin distributing Mewtwo over Wi-Fi for Black/White owners. The giveaway page specifies that the special Mewtwo will come with a move that he can’t normally learn, so it does seem like this is the same as the Japanese giveaway, where Mewtwo came with Psystrike, Shadow Ball, Aura Sphere, and Electro Ball.

In the Japanese giveaway, Mewtwo was at level 70 and carried a King’s Rock, which gives you a higher chance of making the opponent flinch.

Remember the days when legendary pokemon were actually *rare*?

    • http://profiles.google.com/zferolie A.J. Ferolie

Or when we needed a Gameshark to get them?

      Ah, those were the days

      • MrRobbyM

Gameshark and me were best buds back in the day. Even though I still obtained them easily, the feeling of doing something not everyone has direct access too still made them feel rare. These giveaways lower the value of legendary pokemon :/ The least they could do is give away an item to unlock a dungeon or something along those lines.

    • aoihana

      I know what you mean.

Although I haven’t played any of the newer main Pokémon games(I played Blue when I was a kid, and Emerald just recently), I keep reading about Pokémon giveaways of apparently rare and legendary Pokémon.

I honestly don’t know how they can be so rare and legendary if they’re so easily acquired. ┐(‘~`;)┌

Or maybe it’s just that they were legendary(Mewtwo), and are now just basic when compared to the new faces of Pokémon (*^ワ^*)

      • http://www.facebook.com/shawn.dickenson1 Shawn SomethingOtaku Dickenson

its so easy now its a joke   in pokemon Red I’m missing Mew and in
         Emerald I’m missing Ho-oh and
        Deoxys

      • MagDX

Maybe its rare cause they are only given away for so long/has special moves…Idk thats what I thought of it as.

        • aoihana

That’s actually what I thought just now, I guess this Mewtwo does have some rarity since it has special moves. But I meant really more like the journey and challenge of acquiring them. (◕‿◕✿)

          • MagDX

            Journey= Life.
Challenge= Finding out this in the first place.
Ok maybe im bsing it now but it makes…some sense?…ah screw it, Id say id miss the old days..but I like My Mew and Celebi so yea.

      • MrRobbyM

You have a point. Gamefreak’s mindset is probably something along the lines of “New Pokemon game is out! Might as well giveaway all the old legendaries! Herpa-Derpa-Derpity-Dorp!”

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Kevin-Miranda-Salazar/643669155 Kevin Miranda Salazar

Mewtwo wasn’t all that rare back in the old days, if you beat the game you could get one in the Cerulean cave, the 3 birds weren’t also that rare, you could catch them, Mew perhaps was the exception but there was the Route 25 glitch to get it ._.
The only rare Pokemon in the old days was Celebi and I believe until this day it is still a rare sight.

      • MrRobbyM

To get Mewtwo, you still had to go through Cerulean Cave and the 3 birds had their own dungeons and what not. That’s what I mean. The least they could do it add a scenario or give away an item to unlock a dungeon and what not so at least the “legendary” would have some sort of rarity and respect left.

        • http://www.facebook.com/people/Kevin-Miranda-Salazar/643669155 Kevin Miranda Salazar

If they would make a dungeon for every legendary Pokemon in every Pokemon game then it wouldn’t be rare anymore, what will make these legendary giveaway Pokemon rare is after the elapsed time of the giveaway, sadly I missed the Member Card giveaway for Platinum long time ago and I will never be able to catch Darkrai.

          • MrRobbyM

Going through a dungeon or some scenario is still better than just giving it away and I don’t mean ones that are already in the game, I mean you’d have to unlock them via wifi-event.

          • http://www.facebook.com/people/Kevin-Miranda-Salazar/643669155 Kevin Miranda Salazar

I dunno you but I would feel bored of going through Cerulean Cave again and again after we did so in FR/LG and in HG/SS and get the same Mewtwo with the same movesets, it would lose the thrill of going through Cerulean Cave IMO.
That actually makes it less thrilling, personally for me they ruined HG/SS with adding the Hoenn main legendaries in the Embedded Tower, it will not be that rare if someday they’ll make a remake of R/S/E.

          • Evan Groman

I get what you mean about Kyogre/Groudon, but they had to do it. They want to pretend that not having compatibility with 3rd gen is okay. Also, 3rd gen is rare as HELL at this point. They just wanted a more accessible way of catching them all.

          • http://www.facebook.com/people/Kevin-Miranda-Salazar/643669155 Kevin Miranda Salazar

Well okay, ruined wasn’t the apropiate word, I was actually happy we got the R/S/E legendaries, if we were to ignore the posibility of a R/S/E remake it’s pretty damn awesome! But I dunno how rare it’ll feel now that I think of the posibily of a remake :S

        • Evan Groman

I think there’s something to acknowledge about the fact that there will be a certain amount of people downloading this Mewtwo and then this Mewtwo will be gone. Say 10,000 people download it (And I dont know the actual figures, they’re probably higher, but it doesn’t actually matter for my point) so that makes it a 1 in 10,000 people Pokemon. It can’t breed, only people that got it have it.

The old Mewtwo? One per game. Every single person that beat the Elite four could get one by simply going into a cave and catching it. This causes the scenario where EVERY SINGLE SERIOUS PLAYER OF THE GAME has all the ingame legendaries. Giving them away in events doesn’t make them less rare, in fact it makes them more rare. Only the people that were paying attention get to have them.

While paying attention might not be the biggest virtue of gamers that should be rewarded, at least this makes it exclusive, something that legendaries just weren’t in the first generation.

(Mew doesn’t count. There’s a difference between hard to get and impossible to get. The same pretty much goes for Celebi, and any event Pokemon that was released pre-wifi-capabilities.)

          • MrRobbyM

Read my other comment! I know what you said makes sense but even if say, me, a serious player goes to gamestop and obtains mewtwo, there’s no sense of accomplishment. Unless your nearest gamestop(or another place with the event) is hours away from you, your car breaks down half way and you ventured forth on your feet just to obtain it, there’d be no sense of accomplishment whatsoever. The LEAST they could do is giveaway an item to unlock a scenario/dungeon/anything to get to the legendary.

          • Evan Groman

Let’s face it — unless you’re six years old, catching Mewtwo isn’t any more difficult (or even time consuming) than going to Gamestop. It’s an extremely simple cave and the odds of catching it aren’t even that low, it’s just a matter of throwing ~40 balls, which again, does not take that long or that much energy.

I don’t think the old system made them any more legendary than they are now, and I will repeat this — the Pokemon given away by events are still infinitely more rare than the Pokemon available to all players. One is limited, and one exists for every single time you restart your save.

I’m not saying wifi events are the best thing in existence, but you can’t say they make the Pokemon less legendary than they were before. They make it MORE legendary.

Also, in general for the sense of accomplishment thing: I really think that was taken away from us along with the four million legendaries. I know I couldn’t care less when I caught Heatran. And the same goes for Mewtwo nowadays in Heartgold, again, I couldn’t care less. The only two Pokemon left that give you a sense of accomplishment for catching them are Raikou and Entei, and that’s just because of a little beast called Roar. Everything else is easy as hell.

      • aoihana

Yeah, but the point was that at least you had to accomplish something, or meet certain criteria to acquire said Pokémon.

Although, I guess heading over to a crowded event is an achievement all it’s own. (^▽^✿)

They’ve given Celebi away at a few events before, actually. So much for a rare sight (*^ワ^*)

But like I said, I haven’t played any of the new main Pokémon games, so I’m sure there’s still a lot of actually rare and legendary Pokémon. (◕‿◕✿)

        • http://www.facebook.com/people/Kevin-Miranda-Salazar/643669155 Kevin Miranda Salazar

Really? I don’t remember such event, at least not via Wi-Fi.
For someone that don’t live in USA or JAP those are weird, you can’t catch them in the game and there are not local events providing them.

          • aoihana

They are usually low profile. They were giving it away at a convention/expo once(I don’t remember which), and Gamestop had one, too(a couple years ago, I believe). (◕‿◕✿)

          • http://www.facebook.com/people/Kevin-Miranda-Salazar/643669155 Kevin Miranda Salazar

Well since I live far away it was a rare event for me.

There was always giveaways every now and then (Like Mew, Celebi, the flying Pikachu and other crazy rare Pokemons o_O) except that back in the day they were local and only the people in the big cities could enjoy it, with the wonders of technology of the actual days now these events are accesible for almost all the fans, after the time limit for these giveaways runs out then they will become rare eventually.

        • http://twitter.com/DanijoEX DanijoEX

Nowadays, the long and easy way to get Mewtwo was to:

          1. Capture him in FireRed/LeafGreen.

          2. Transfer him through Pearl/Diamond/Platinum/SoulSilver/HeartGold.

          3. Then after completing White/Black, you could transfer him from the games mentioned above.

I seem to notice that I always forget about the transfer option. At least, during the days when Diamond/Pearl was still new.

          • Evan Groman

To be fair you can just catch one in Heartgold/Soulsilver and save yourself the first step / requiring the third generation?

  • ReevesSingleton

Is it weird that I’m considering getting and beating the game again just so I can receive a Mewtwo?

I think it’s kind of admirable.

  • poisui

Missingno. > Mewto. Those were the days. :o

    • http://www.facebook.com/shawn.dickenson1 Shawn SomethingOtaku Dickenson

      lol
Missingno is still in the game…just got to use AR cheats…. and its a huge (?)

Interesting, that’s cool. Is it in the US version as well or was it removed?

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/Kamek20xxExtra?feature=mhee Michael Stevens

This is very nice (Thank you, Nintendo! :3), but I really want to know when we are going to finally get Dream World starters or Dream World Ditto. That or I missed something……

    • http://twitter.com/DanijoEX DanijoEX

There are times like this I regret selling Pokemon White…

    • http://www.facebook.com/VirusChris Christopher Nunes

Oh shoot! Dream World! As long as I had Black and White I NEVER tried out the Dream World! o_0

Better try it out later then! I’m too busy, I just finished White Knight Chronicles 2′s story and I now trying to finish the next chapter of my Fate/Extra chapter (I stopped half-way through and I don’t know why).

I’m looking forward to getting this Mewtwo! But I kinda wish that made them appear in the game and you need to capture him just like in the old Red and Blue version, a throwback to the original game and how challenging it was to caught Mewtwo without a Master Ball.

      • Evan Groman

That happens with some event Pokemon.
Granted not all of them, but some. I remember Latios/Latias as requiring being caught manually because they released the Soul Dew item that makes them appear rather than just the dragon itself. And Victini as well, Victini unlocks its own map and you have to go in and fight off a lot of grunts to catch it.

        • http://www.facebook.com/VirusChris Christopher Nunes

True… it was fun hunting the ones that escaped into the wild! I remember chasing after Entei, Suicune , and Raikou from Silver and Gold! Man it was a pain in the neck to get them but I finally snag them! ^_^

I love Pokemon Events like that! They should’ve done it with Mewtwo for this game too! Then again I didn’t think they plan that far ahead. Oh well, here’s hoping for the next Pokemon game! ^_^

I want a console one next though. I just feel like they should try it just ONCE to see what it’s like, plus we can also customize our Trainer’s looks like the Battle Revolution one for the Wii (that was the name, right?). I love the 2D sprite works, and shouldn’t give those up but they could expand on console version too!

    • WizardoftheBlueOrder

We had a chance of that when the “favorite Pokemon” vote was going on. If Ditto had won, it would’ve been legit Dream World Dittos for everyone. Instead we get another Arceus. Whee.

      • http://www.youtube.com/user/Kamek20xxExtra?feature=mhee Michael Stevens

        ………(Aw, man.)

  • http://www.facebook.com/shawn.dickenson1 Shawn SomethingOtaku Dickenson

    Mewtwo.. I have like 4 of them ugh  I want the 3 in Unova   Genesect,Meloetta and Keldeo(my little pony)  >:{

    • http://twitter.com/goodjobKebo Kebo Martin

lol If I only knew there was gonna be a Saikyo Mewtwo in NA I wouldnt have forced my cartridge to have the JP Saikyo Mewtwo. Sadly enough, B/W translates japanese names into english so it looks kinda not legit except when its migrated from previous gens

  • http://nocturneadagio.blogspot.com/ LainaLain

Mewtwo is THE best pokemon. Y’all share that.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Leonard-Norwood-Jr/100001685317322 Leonard Norwood Jr.

I’ll make sure to get Mewtwo in my party. although unless i have a DSi or 3DS, which I don’t have, I’ll be a little stuck trying to connect with my DS. It has to be a WEP network, plenty of that, but mine’s is WPA. so I’m gonna have to act quick…then again……IDEA!

  • http://bmgf.bulbagarden.net/members/55321.html FinalArcadia

Well, darn. I just recently caught a Mewtwo on HeartGold Version and used my Master Ball on it. Now I wish I would’ve saved it for something else…

    • http://www.facebook.com/shawn.dickenson1 Shawn SomethingOtaku Dickenson

no you did the right thing lol

  • puchinri

Yay, February is such a pretty month. I get Smile PreCure! and a Mewtwo~.

  • http://www.genkaibreak.com Code

rar, although I’ve been out of Pokemon, I should probably still grab Mewtwo T3T” I’m hoping next major Pokemon title, I’ll feel more in the mood to play again. Nothing against Black/White just the transition of teams over and over has begun to get grating, where since the DS games had some decent local players to keep up with T3T’

  • Asura

    But I don’t play ubers…

  • CrimsonalCore

Hmm… Mewtwo giveaway? Maybe I should name him Mewfive since I already have 4 and that one is going to be a fifth. >w>

  • http://twitter.com/ExceptionL ExceptionL

There are still plenty other legendary’s to be given away. I’m sick of these unobtainable guys like Genesect…
    http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Genesect_(Pok%C3%A9mon)

Hope we can get a hold of this guy eventually.
