Black Rock Shooter Anime Series To Be Streamed Worldwide

Anime News Network report that the upcoming Black Rock Shooter anime series will be streamed worldwide with subtitles in eight different languages.

Nico Nico Douga’s Nico Nico Channel will begin streaming the 8-episode series on February 3rd, a day after its premiere on Japanese television. Nico Nico recently streamed Fate/Zero in a similar fashion.

8 languages? That’s pretty awesome! Black Rock Shooter is awesome, I loved the OVA, so it’s only natural that as many people possible enjoy the anime. (◕‿◕✿)

I’ll have to set a reminder, I always forget about these things! (*≧m≦*)

  • Go2hell66

    My body is ready!
    (well the lower half anyway…)

    Should check this out.

  • http://demyxluver1xxandra.deviantart.com/ C.Guzman

That’s nice. I wish they’d do it for more anime.

  • http://twitter.com/DanijoEX DanijoEX

That’s cool. I should make the time to watch it on NND.

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/EnvyMizuhashi Garyuu

Let’s see how much this version focuses on the relationship between the parallel worlds. And I hope Deadmaster shows up first. =)

  • konsama

This is great, if they did at least this kind of thing on more series, it would fight the socalled “piracy” realted to fansubs and such, in case these people don’t know, they do it because of the lack of license and release on their own country. But i guess i went off topic.

    • http://www.youtube.com/user/EnvyMizuhashi Garyuu

People are still so egotistic to make fansubs even though an official scanlation has been noted before the anime even airs. It baffles me seeing Fate/Zero fansubs even though their boat sailed a long time ago.

Niconico should promote this innovative production more and more with quality titles. Thank god we have Aniplex USA and Funimation working alongside them.

      • Shogunreaper

Maybe that’s because the official subs are garbage.

Badly timed, not styled and can only be streamed on the computer.

If official companies like funimation want fansubbers to stop then they should offer a product that’s better, not worse.

        • http://www.youtube.com/user/EnvyMizuhashi Garyuu

And fansubbers are suppose to translate better? I wouldn’t be surprised if they still add notations on the top of the screen describing a term or a in-joke in Japan. Badly timed? I don’t know what subs YOU’VE been watching. And who cares about the text’s style? Text is still text.

Viz Media’s simulcasting is great. Not even the Fate/Zero simulcasting is bad. Funimation may have the most mishaps, but even then their simulcasting is not “garbage.” I’d understand if people couldn’t get the translation of Horizon in the Middle of Nowhere, but Crunchyroll and Anime Network’s translations are nearly identical. If they’re confusing to the viewers, it just means that the anime itself is confusing. And it is.

          • Shogunreaper

Maybe you don’t care if the subs look good but people who have been watching quality fansubs for years now do.

And yes all official subs are badly timed, you may not be able to tell since that’s clearly all you watch, but to someone who’s always watched fansubs that are qc’d multiple times before released its very easy to spot.

          • http://www.youtube.com/user/EnvyMizuhashi Garyuu

I’ve been watching fansubs for a very long time myself, dood. I’ve seen both good and bad timing. And the simulcasts are on the former. Sure, I appreciate the text style and color that they go for, but I never really cared, at least, I don’t praise it so much that I would throw a fit against official simulcasts. Do note that I never said simulcasts are perfect. Neither are fansubs.

Such is my heedlessness, anyway. Whatever gripes you have, I haven’t felt myself. So I’ll leave it at that.

          • D K

This entitlement complex needs to die.  Once upon a time fansubs served a sort of legitimate purpose because there was no other way to get most anime.  But now we have entered an age where practically everything is available legitimately, free, and simulcasted and yet you have clowns like this saying they’re going to ignore the official and legal channels and pirate instead because they don’t like the subtitle font.

            Get over yourself.

And I have been watching fansubs since the days of trading VHS tapes (I bet you don’t remember that…).  Your timing comment is bullshit.

          • Shogunreaper

If you like official subs then more power to you, i just don’t see the point in watching inferior work.

A good example would be comparing the current CR naruto subs with Takafansubs’ version. Great styling, perfect timing, attack effects, ect.

You may say the little things don’t matter to you but to me they all add up to make something that’s pleasant to watch

          • http://www.youtube.com/user/EnvyMizuhashi Garyuu

And I don’t see the point in differentiating said little things from each other. Or why they’re suppose to be the “de facto” standard of subbing, that is to say, coming from people who don’t have an actual job in localization. But hey, more power to you too.

EDIT: I often hear people complaining about CR having more mishaps, maybe more than Funimation. It hasn’t occurred to me yet after watching Koihime Musou, Iron Man, and Heroman. I may have to see Viz’s simulcasting of Naruto often to determine that, since I find their translations to be on par after watching Tiger&Bunny, Bleach, and Blue Exorcist.

          • Shogunreaper

Well clearly you’re one of those people who think that the crappy yellow subtitles on dvds are amazing and that nothing else can compare to them, so theres really no point in talking about it anymore.

          • RupanIII

Here’s an example, one I’ve used before in similar arguments: Honey and Clover. I really wanted to buy the R1 Viz release. I like physical media and supporting official releases, especially considering the state of R1 anime nowadays. But the fansubs are simply superior (they actually get the character names right! lol). If you think fansubs don’t have a place and that official companies can never screw up, well, check out H&C.

That said, me personally I think there’s too much generalizing here, saying all official subs are bad, or all fansubbers are bad/entitled, etc. etc. There are examples of good and bad in both categories.

      • http://twitter.com/haitechan MG Parra

That is wonderful if you live in an area where the official streaming works. I had no problem watching F/Z in streaming from Nico so I don’t get why the streaming of BRS is locked to a few countries. Hello? South America is much more than Chile and Argentina! Until the licensing companies care, I’ll continue to watch fansubs. Yes, I could use a proxy but that’s not the point.

    • Azuku

Pretty much everything this season is being streamed on Crunchyroll. The problem, as you mentioned, is licensing restrictions in certain countries. In fact, it’s a problem even in this instance:

Update: Despite the announcement’s description of
“worldwide” streams, the latest episodes will be available every Friday
at 11:00 p.m. in the following countries:
      English: United States, Canada
French: France, Belgium, Monaco, Switzerland, Andorra
      Italian: Italy
      German: Germany
      Spanish: Spain, Mexico, Chile, Argentina
      Korean: South Korea
      Traditional Chinese: Taiwan
      Simplified Chinese: Mainland China, Singapore

Apparently the UK isn’t part of the world. Everyone already knows that Australia isn’t, so I guess it’s only natural that the UK be next.

  • http://twitter.com/ShiningxWander Wander

Hey alright! I love Black Rock Shooter xD. I’ll make sure to watch the stream.

  • Luna Kazemaru

    Nice will be there.

  • http://youtube.com/TsukuyomiRagna Tsukuyomi_Ragna

I didn’t like the OVA that much, regardless I’ll still watch this ^_^

  • vivaluis59

    how will Americans watch this?

    • godmars

Good point. They need to do something like ads on Facebook or Youtube otherwise this will only trickle out through the normal – “pirated” – fan based networks and become a wasted effort. An example of why anime shows shouldn’t be made available.

Though just as likely someone like Hulu or Crackle will pick it up.

      • PoweredByHentai

You guys realize that Nico Nico has an American branch now, right?

        http://www.niconico.com/

        • vivaluis59

          Didn’t know :O…. thank you :3

    • Luna Kazemaru

      same way we watched fate/zero

    • PoweredByHentai

      There’s your answer.

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/Kamek20xxExtra?feature=mhee Michael Stevens

I love BRS. Interests me so much! What interests me the most are the characters! They all look so unique, cute, and badass (despite having revealing looks, but Etna is revealing too and she’s just as cute, unique, and badass, so I’m not complaining at all! Really!)! X3

The OVA was interesting IMO, and having 8 different languages for the anime is really neat, but only 8 episodes planned?! UGH! I have a great feeling that this will be an awesome anime, so they need to have more episodes or at least have a second season in the future! PLEASE! XC

  • LynxAmali

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO………….

In case you can’t tell by the long no, I AM NOT HAPPY. I hate Nico with all of my heart. The streaming services suck ass. I tried to watch Fate/Zero only to get nothing even though I was in Canada. And having Episodes only available for a week doesn’t help.

And considering the current rate of shows airing on Nico are being picked up being Aniplex USA (AKA The company who will sell a 400 dollar boxset and yet will not release individual discs)I will be pissed even more if they pick this up.

    • http://www.crunchyroll.com/user/ArtFanIam Samantha Stevens

Well if you hate Nico so much, instead of complaining so much, why don’t you just watch it somewhere else? It’s not like it’s going to be only available on Nico. -.-

      • LynxAmali

No one else has announced it so for now, Nico IS the only with it.

Oh well..I could always go back to the old tried and true method of the terribad quality that is KeyHole TV.

        • http://www.youtube.com/user/Kamek20xxExtra?feature=mhee Michael Stevens

Yes, Nico’s the only place they have it announced on so far, but don’t think that they won’t have it somewhere else soon after. Just a little bit of patience, and you’ll soon find it announced on other sites such as Crunchyroll, DailyMotion, Hulu, or whatever (with good quality BTW).

          • Kawashima

Unfortunately thats not always the case.  Most of the anime on Nico is not available to watch anywhere else.(Except for Funimation anime which is on their site or hulu) So far there havent been any plans for it to be aired on any other site, but I’m doubtful that it will make it to sites like CR since you dont tend to find anime on nico on CR and viceversa.

          • http://zerodestinypro.blogspot.com/ Zero_Destiny

Fate/Zero also aired on Crunchyroll. Likewise like you said the anime from NicoNico are also available on Funimation’s website as well. The reason for that being is that Funimation is the company that handled those NicoNico titles, Last Exile: Fam the Silver Wing, Guilty Crown, and Future Diary are all done by Funimation themselves. Funimation made a deal to stream those titles on NicoNico as well as their own site.

Now Fuimation and Crunchyroll don’t really work hand-in-hand to say the least so don’t expect to see Funimation titles on Crunchyroll. If a Funimation title is going to be streamed it’ll be done through their own streaming site, hulu, or other sites like NicoNico that Funimation has cut deals with. But it won’t really be on Crunchyroll. In fact usually when Funimation liscense a title they buy out Crunchyroll’s streaming rights and Crunchyroll loses the show entirely and stops streaming it. The most recent example that I can think of being Steins;Gate.

    • http://www.youtube.com/user/EnvyMizuhashi Garyuu

Dood, the boxsets are on Aniplex JP’s part. Plus they’re import sales. Absurd, yes, but it’s how they make money. Hell, Garden of Sinners sold out like wildfire with its boxsets. Be grateful that Madoka Magica isn’t on import prices either.

And I dunno what to say about your problem with streaming videos other than: 1. Whatever is on your computer or 2. You probably thought the videos weren’t working when you were actually looking at a loading screen.

    • http://twitter.com/DanijoEX DanijoEX

Or you could just the ones with English subs. Your choice. But there’s no need fret over it.

    • Darkrise

What are you talking about? I’m from Canada and I can watch it fine. In fact, I was always looking forward to watch F/Z on Nico due to the quality and hilarious comments. Sounds more like there was something wrong with your internet, or it’s your computer itself.

  • http://www.crunchyroll.com/user/ArtFanIam Samantha Stevens

This is great, but only 8 episodes are coming. Why must the interesting ones become so short? (>.<)

  • http://twitter.com/ScissorsDtoid Scissors

Yes, So excited. I have all 4 original figmas, all 4 original Nendos. The 1/8 – Anime Ver. GSC statue. The nendo petites, and everything else that came with the bluray Box set.  I even got a Dead Master speaker (though the sound quality is terrible).

I actually really liked the OVA, the only thing that was wrong with it was that there was very little time spent with BRS aspect, and the fight scenes were super short. *[spoiler begin]* I loved the subtly of the friendship between Mato & Yomi, it was very quiet, but it felt so real. Specifically when Yuu wedged herself in between Yomi & Mato’s frienship. That feeling you get when your best friend starts slipping away from you, and begins hanging out with someone else is awful, and they nailed that perfectly in the OVA. It’s this aching feeling of slowly drifting apart that feels like quiet subdued torture. I was going through a similar thing at the time with my childhood best friend so the OVA really struck home for me. Thankfully my friend and I have patched things up since then, and things are good between us now.*[Spoiler Stops]*

I’m so excited, I hope this is good. I’ll admit I was having abit of a BRS overdose a few months back when we were getting frequent announcements of BRS figures, and you would see BRS plastered on everything, but things have quieted down since then, and I’m ready to dig into this new anime.

    • http://www.youtube.com/user/Kamek20xxExtra?feature=mhee Michael Stevens

So you have all 4 original figmas, all 4 original Nendos, the 1/8 – Anime Version GSC statues,  and all the nendo petites? All in ONE Bluray Box set?! Plus, you had a BRS overdose (whatever that means, but it sounds crazy)?!

      …….Whoa. Ladies and gentlemen, a true BRS fan……..IMO. :)

      • http://twitter.com/VXLbeast VXLbeast

Woah.  Looks like we got ourselves a badass.

    • dusk

Oh man. That, right there, is a super fan. But what about the psp game? I assume you’ve played it, so I must ask. Do you prefer BRS’s game voice (Sakamoto Maaya) or the anime voice (Hanazawa Kana)? I like the game’s version better.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1769064526 Vivian Mai

Hmm…only 8 episodes? I guess I’ll wait for people to rip it out so I don’t have to wait for the buffering. It’s only a day or so later than the actual streams at the most.

The OVA didn’t impress me. Actually, I’m not as into the BRS series as other people seem to be. Well, here’s hoping that the 8 episode run is done well. There’s no room for mistakes…

    • raymk

The OVA was bad and it had nothing at all to do with the game.  This is supposed to be following the games storyline somewhat.  Well other than the game I don’t know how you’d be into the series anyway.  Not to mention that its still in jp right now waiting on nisa to finally announce a release date for it.

      • Darkrise

That’s because the OVA came BEFORE the game and there is no established storyline for the BRS series yet so they have no relation whatsoever outside of character. The anime is also not related to the game either, it’s more of a remake of the whole school-life ova with ‘more action’.

      • K M

I thought the OVA was pretty good. They couldn’t really flesh out the story any good since it was so short. But they had a decent premise I thought.

  • http://www.facebook.com/VirusChris Christopher Nunes

I don’t know much about the Black Rock Shooter series, but I extremely look forward to it! I’ve seen some AMV with clips from the OVA and it looks great! And I want to get the game too when it comes out because it looks very fun and engaging with an interesting storyline.

I haven’t collect any of the Figma of course, as I’ve never collect any before, but I might start collecting them starting with Black Rock Shooter first!

So there’s going to be an 8 episode series of it? Make it at least 16 – 20 episodes and we’re good, but oh well. I look forward to it and 8 different languages the anime will be in? Awesome-sauce!

  • http://twitter.com/VXLbeast VXLbeast

  • MCoelho

I hope crunchyroll can stream this, i hate Nico’s design.

But if BRS streams on CR i hope i could watch in my region, i wanted to watch so many anime like Nichijou, Durarara and Un-Go, but it wasnt avaiable.

I mean, Un-go was announced to stream in brazilian portuguese but then it was blocked, that just sucks.

I meant free on the streaming sites, ’cause I thought you had to pay to watch those.

        • Darkrise

It’s free on Nico, it was for Fate/Zero anyway so I don’t see how BRS would be any different.

          • https://twitter.com/#!/SplashdownTiger STiger

Guess it should be free as well then.

  • KotaroInugami

Saw BRS’s face and got excited thinking it was news of the english psp game, but this is still FANTASTIC news.

  • Darkrise

I’m kind of disappointed that the anime still has the school-life scenario but as long as they do a good job with this one then I’m fine. But 8 ep’s kind of kills it for me, almost as if they just decided to make an anime without real detailed work and passed it off as a ‘fanservice’ kind of anime cash-cow.

    • http://twitter.com/CPUNoire Noire

That goes for a lot of things now honestly, it’s sad but true, but hey maybe its gonna be one of those 45mins per episode types

    • K M

I rather like the school scenario for BRS since the core premise was supposed to be an alternate reality deal like in the OVA. I think they had a good proper premise going with a dark theme kind of like Madoka. But yeah, it being such a short series, it’s barely a ‘series’, but more like a movie cut into pieces.

    • http://amc9988.deviantart.com/ amc99

Yeah, I understand your feelings, I’m not fond with the school setting either. I think it would become much more interesting if they only focus the BRS’s world because there will be more fighting, action and less school life drama. But if there’s one thing I REALLY hate in the anime series is that they made Dead Master wear glasses… she look like a granny with them…
