Ace Attorney Movie To See A Worldwide Release

Ace Attorney movie director, Miike Takahashi, recently presented a world premiere of the movie at the International Film Festival Rotterdam in the Netherlands. The Ace Attorney movie covers the events of the first game.

Twitch provide their impressions of the film, and report that, while the movie was screened in Japanese, the subtitles used the characters’ western names. For example, we know “Ryuuichi Naruhodou” as “Phoenix Wright” in English.

Additionally, Takahashi confirmed during a Q&A session that there are plans to release the Ace Attorney movie worldwide, with each region receiving subs and dubs using the character names from the Phoenix Wright games for that region.

A Miles Edgeworth-style bow to Robert for the tip!

That’s fantastic! It’s very nice to see them put so much effort into distributing the movie worldwide and adapting it for each specific region.

I hope the movie will be successful! =)

  • caleb1993

Cool, it’d be nice if this movie was released in theaters in other regions. It could be a very interesting experience.

    Yessss

  • countupyoursins

We need more evidence! (aka theater listings ;) )

  • Jahred Down

Hope the US gets a dub, that way we can know how Phoenix, Maya and Edgeworth will sound in AA vs PL

  • Zonic505

Hmmm, an English dub for the film? Wonder who’d play some of the characters. Would UMvC3 Phoenix Wright’s voice actor do it? Maybe, should it ever be released here, they’d use the same voice actors for the Eng. dub for the English version of PL Vs. AA?

    • RaikageV

No, please, I don’t like his UMvC3 voice.

I wonder who dubbed him in the DS games. I just love that voice shouting “Objection!”.

      • Tom_Phoenix

In the English versions of the DS games, he was voiced by Ben Judd, head of globalisation at Capcom Japan.

Sadly, I don’t expect he will reprise his role (at least for non-gaming media, anyway). It’s more likely they will get someone else.

        • Zonic505

Ben Judd left Capcom a couple of years ago, so yeah, he most likely won’t be the one to voice PW.

    • Strain42

I would personally hope that they don’t dub this movie in theatres. Live action movies shouldn’t be dubbed.

      • http://twitter.com/Xander_VJ David García Abril

They can if they make the dub right.

Although America doesn’t have much experience with that kind of dubs, but you never know.

In Europe are more used to it, though, specially in Spain, Italy, Germany and France.

        • http://myanimelist.net/profile/Kuronoa Kuronoa

          Maybe, especially with appropriate voices.
But I agree with Strain I cannot stand dubs for live action it always seems like I”m watching the wrong movie with the lip syncing compared to cartoons.

          • Aoshi00

Some Hollywood movies are dubbed extremely well in Jpn though, they got the timing down to a tee.  If you got any Warner Bros blu-rays, change the language setting of your PS3 to Jpn and then you’d be able to listen to the Jpn tracks of most WB movies (only WB ones have that option dunno why).. like Batman or Seven, or even the Harry Potter box sets, they’re dubbed in Jpn very well like the actors are actually speaking Jpn :) I must’ve watched Gattaca like 15 times in Eng and 5 times in Jpn (I’m a huge Andrew Niccol and Ethan Hawke fan, most of the time he’s voiced by Miyamoto Mitsuru :)

  • poisui

Can’t wait to see Ryuuichi and Mayoi-chan live-action.

  • ZBaksh386

    Cool.

  • http://bmgf.bulbagarden.net/members/55321.html FinalArcadia

Glad that there are already plans for this! Although, with live-action movies, I’m not crazy about dubs. This will definitely be one of those “I’ll prefer the sub” instances (which isn’t often for me, since I usually watch anime dubbed).

  • pgover

Well my sister is gonna be stoked about this, she’s a major Phoenix Wright fan.

  • Strain42

It’s official…this movie is getting more respect in the West than the actual games do. But in any words…WHOO-HOO! YEAH, BABY, YEAH!!!

    Haha, naruhodou xD

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100002338540980 Ethan Russell

Just not popular enough to get investigations 2 localized

    • SupaPhly

all of a sudden? few years ago there was a musical… A MUSICAL

      • Testsubject909

The musical, from what I saw, wasn’t that good.

Really, let’s focus on the movie.

  • Göran Isacson

… It’s really getting released in the West. I… oh my god I don’t even know what the western world will make of this. I know I’ll be watching and loving it, but the average moviegoer… well! It’ll be interesting to find out how this goes, anyway!

  • http://twitter.com/eliezer_santos Eliézer Santos

    Ah, naruhodou.

  • http://twitter.com/keithmaxx keithmaxx

    (No) Objection!!!

…Sorry, just had to say it.

    • Testsubject909

(I’ll) TAKE THAT (movie when it comes out)!!

Don’t worry, I think we all had a small desire to do that.

  • darkbartz

I like the sound of this, but I’m not sure the average movie goer will like it… Hopefully the quirky nature of Ace Attorney will be able to win the public’s heart.

  • Slapndabass

This is going to be one of the best movies ever.

  • animaster

This is the news of the day for me.

  • http://twitter.com/JotaconB Joshua Bateman

Really excited about this, I love Miike and I (mostly) love the Ace Attorney games. I too am wary of the Dub I’m hoping for subtitles.
Also I’m pretty sure it is Takashi Miike not Takahashi.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Khalid-Kallan/100001756249479 Khalid Kallan

i already saw it during the International Film Festival in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
This is a movie festival were all sorts of movies of many contries are shown in 2 weeks (as described above) , Ace Attorney was one of them and  I must say the movie is awesome!

  • http://twitter.com/Zephyrsword Jessica

Hope they show this on FilmFour in the UK like they did with the rest of the subbed movies.

  • Wahyudi Cahya Putra

he is not like the phoenix wright he’s looks like higuchi from death note lol

  • http://marlous.myopenid.com/ Marlous

I just saw this film last night at the Film Festival. There were a lot of game elements incorporated (like the confetti and the huge ‘NOT GUILTY’ hovering over the courtroom when you win a case), a lot of effort was put into making the actors really resemble the characters (especially with facial expressions and body language), and the main storyline was coherent enough for someone who never played the games to be able to follow it and enjoy it (one of the friends that came with me, who had never even heard of the series until a few days earlier).

Overall I really enjoyed the film, despite (or perhaps thanks to?) some toecurling/facepalm moments when something was too obvious from the game and not really fitting in a film. But y’know.. those moments were also part of what gave the film its charm. If you played the games, then I can really recommend this film. ^^

    • Joanna

      So jealous. ;^;
Well I guess I’ll be able to enjoy it in the comfort of my home when they release it internationally, but still, I want to see it already. D:

I bet this will just be French, Spanish, German, English and the usual languages. I’m already giving up hope for scandinavia *cries*
