An English Trailer For The Last Story Gives A Taste Of The Localized Game

We have the first English trailer for Mistwalker and Nintendo’s The Last Story, courtesy of YouTube user, Nintendaan. Since the game’s localization is being spearheaded by Nintendo of Europe, you’ll find English accents in here, just like Xenoblade Chronicles:

The Last Story will be released on February 24th for the Wii. A separate limited edition of the game will include an art booklet, soundtrack CD and will come in a steel casing.

    Hopefully we get it this year in the US. We will finally get Xenoblade in April, such a long wait…

      If it’s any indication the pre-order numbers are shaping up to be good, and NOA did have this to show recently http://xenobladechronicles.nintendo.com/ so they are showing effort in trying to advertise the game.

        Oh hey look there’s both English audio and Japanese audio Voice Samples in the character section. Now I wonder what that could mean *wink* *wink*

        Also besides just having dual audio we get the option to have subtitles in English, French, Italian, German and Spanish. That’s a really nice touch.

          Hovering over the Iwata Asks link in that page brings out, “A Discussion of Video Game Development with the Creators of Xenoblade and The Last Story”  Now why would an NOA Web site mention The Last Story?  The plot thickens…  And looks like Xenoblade NA will also be dual audio, so you can have your audio options. :)

            Indeed, this plot is rather thick now it seems. Hhhmmmm what great mystery will present itself next? Looks like we have some things to look forward to. :)

    I can’t wait for this to come to US…Id play the UK version but I really want to own something domestic.

    This was one game I was really expecting to play as far as RPGs go. I can’t believe it didn’t arrive here sooner.

    I would have to say it is the most anticipated JRPG (hate that term lol) this generation for me. 

    Sakaguchi always make this old man feel like he is 14 again :)

        Someone I know absolutely hates Reggie, explicitly because Reggie seems to hate great video games that happen to be RPGs. :) We were both pleasantly surprised when NoA announced Xenoblade stateside, Reggie seemed far too stubborn to be willing to listen to what Wii owners actually want.

          Reggie isn’t the one making all of the calls on which games get localized, it’s much more complicated than that.  Having an issue with NoA’s localization decisions is one thing, but don’t oversimplify it and blame it on one executive.

          Besides, didn’t the guy have hundreds of hours in Dragon Quest IX?  Doesn’t that give him at least some RPG cred?  :)

    Oh god, I wants this.

    Hearing the voices, I suddenly realize it’s probably for the best that I’ll be getting the European version. For me, it conjures the notion of a foreign land, and the whole European feel it brings fits the fantasy setting with a princess and a castle and swords and armor and such quite well.

    I’m slightly disappointed that I couldn’t hear more of Syrenne, but she’s supposed to be very foul-mouthed, so it makes sense to not have her speaking much in a commercial/trailer meant for wider audiences.

    Nintendo of Europe need to handle more localisations, it’s good to see JRPGs without the same six or seven voices.

    More JRPGs need to have European VA. I don’t want to hear Troy Baker for a long time and it’d make little annoying kids a bit more tolerable.

          I think that’s down to opinion. I’m renting FF13-2 tomorrow, but I’m almost certain I will absolutely hate it, and The Last Story looks neat, but no way near P4 standards.

    I’m not expecting Gamestop to bail Nintendo of America out twice, so I have no apprehension in importing this just like I did for Xenoblade. :)

    Ever since the downfall of Final Fantasy, the creator of FF has brought us the spiritual successor of it called “The Last Story”… Oh how I miss your games during the 1990 era… I can play this to remedy my depression from FF…

    I’m starting to think Europe’s localization is better than America’s…

    For those of you who want this in the US, go pre order Xenoblade, i think it’s sales has a effect on whether or not we get this (and Pandora’s Tower)

    Edit: i have just been informed that American Xenoblade Pre Orders are in the 90k area

    Can’t tell if the Eng dub is good yet (the Jpn dub is excellent), but pretty cool british accent, like DQ9 or Drakengard (even if some is fake-cent).  Would take a while to get used to all the name changes though.. Zael & Calista rather than Elza & Kanan, I just realize Zael is Elza flipped around lol.. hope this would get released in the US as well like Xenoblade..

            Yep, the Gooch just got his Europe LE w/ the steelbook case..  the Jpn Wii bundle only had the regular white Wii and regular game.. but pre-order bonus was the artbook and mini-soundtrack if you’re lucky.. The Jpn game had an outer sleeve like Metroid Other M, w/ a circle opening on the front, on the front there’s Kanan and on the back there’s Elza (I won’t call em Calista and Zael *.*), so you could choose whose face to show on the cover..

            wait, I thought yesterday was your b-day? everyone was showering you w/ kisses lol.. enjoy your gift!

            nah, not the Metroid Prime triology steelbook case.. I mean for Other M, remember you told me about the Jpn ver having dual audio :)? And it has a sexy red outer sleeve w/ Samus’s suit on the outside, you can see her face thru the visor (and on the back there’s another Samus in her Zero suit), I got this and sold the US ver after you told me.

            For Last Story, you have an opening on the box’s front and a reversible cover to show Elza’s profile instead of the default Kanan’s, it would be clearer from this video.. I got the artbook and mini-OST too.

    Has anyone here played the JP version before? I think the rendering is a bit different. And Lowell just looked ugly in that clip, lol… to think that he’s one of the more funny guys there.

    The Last Story looks very nice. It was a nice emotional trailer. I really hope that it makes its way to N.A. shores so I can grace it with a limited edition pre-order.

    If I’m honest…so far I prefer the voices in Xenoblade Chronicles. But then again, I really hated the voices in Xenoblade Chronicles before I owned the game so I think I need to hear them a bit more so I adjust.

    (BTW – I’m from London and have preordered this game a while back)

    I absolutely adore jrpg characters with british accents. DQ VIII had a brilliant dub, and so did Xenoblade. I’m so glad they’re keeping the same accent for this one.

    Lovely trailer/teaser btw, the music gave me goosebumps. Amazing!

      That’s exactly what I’m resorting too. I’m only hacking my Wii to play the games we didnt get and I want to play, I’m not a pirate so I’m going to be buying all my imported games.

    The English accents really fit with this game since it has a more medieval feel. Too bad my February purchases are already full. I hope the LE doesn’t go out of print too soon. I would love to pick it up later. Well if it does go out of print, I’ll be fine with just the game.
