Today, Atlus posted the opening movie for Persona 4: The Ultimate in Mayonaka Arena, the upcoming Persona fighting game in development at BlazBlue studio, Arc System Works. Take a look:

Persona 4: The Ultimate in Mayonaka Arena takes place two months after the events of Persona 4. The game will be rolled out into Japanese arcades this March, and a console release will follow in the summer.

That trailer music seems to be completely ripping off “Estaka?” from the King of Fighters games.

    Not that I blame them.

EDIT: Also, after watching more of that trailer… seriously, Japan, not every single woman in the world is afraid of revealing their weight. Naoto likely would, maybe Yukiko but I don’t think Chie’s that bashful.

    • SirTeffy

It sounds to me more like the P4 Anime’s opening theme, only instrumental.

    • haqua

…like Japan is seriously the only country that does that.

  • qetuo6

Nice trailer, but what’s up with Kanji’s voice?

    • esquiviasjacob

they used the voice of shadow kanji

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_Q6NXXGMO5XNSMJ64NIHYHFP56A Vince

       ”It’s symbolic~!”

      • Testsubject909

The dubs will forever haunt me for these sort of quotes.
And that’s not a bad thing because those fandubs were epicly awesome.

Nice owo” Maan I can’t wait for March, can’t wait to see arcade footage owo’ I’m not sure who I’ll even try yet, that’s going to be a tough call! I’m kind of hoping we’ll still have an extra character or two show up though, perhaps another Persona series cameo owo’

I’ll need to do a better job cultivating Persona 4 locally though since most fighting game fans I know have never played the Persona series T3T’ I tried introducing them via the anime, but it just didn’t see to take off sadly, which is a shame since the anime is pretty fun o3o’

This will keep me busy while anxiously waiting for P4G release. :3

  • Enma_Kozato

Mayonaka got pimped out to the extreme.

  • Zonic505

The more footage I see, the more I want Atlus to announce an US release.

    • raymk

They will release this in the U.S.  Its kinda been already confirmed with atlus Publishing KOFXIII and wanting to see how best to go about selling their own fighter.

    I can’t wait for a localization. I’m importing this.

  • Natat

Haha I’m so sure I’m gonna love this game!

  • Dantis

That was… Actually very disappointing. I expected a lot more.

  • leadintea

I’m still hoping they’ll add characters from P1 and P2 (Ayase!).

    • Testsubject909

My money would immediately go on the Veterans.

For one part, unlike their successors, P1 and P2 veterans are all capable of having multiple personas and switching between them. A clear advantage above their peers.

Also, they have NUCLEAR elemental… NUCLEAR.

Oh and, did I forget to mention. They have both GUNS AND MELEE WEAPONS…

      • leadintea

Well they could restrict the P1/P2 characters to using only their initial or final personas, just as how Yu only gets to use Izanagi. And if they wanted to, they could only have the characters use their melee weapons since guns weren’t that iconic to the characters.

        • Testsubject909

Well, one of them has SATAN as a final persona…

          • leadintea

No one from P1 or P2 has Satan as a final persona. If you’re talking about Reiji (the only one I think you might be talking about), his final persona is Mot.

          • Testsubject909

My mistake then. Been a while since I played P1.

  • HeatPhoenix

That was a pretty low level opening, certainly doesn’t measure up to the actual games’ or remake’s OP.

    • Dantis

My thoughts exactly. When you consider that the last Persona opening was P2 for PSP, and was STUPENDOUS, this one is pretty terrible.

    • LynxAmali

You do realize this is the ARCADE opening, right? Arcade titles have never had that great OPs.

We’ll probably get a new one with the console release.

      • Dantis

Aaah, you’re right. I just watched the Blazblue one, and it’s VERY similar.

Guess I’ll be more interested in the console opening then.

        • elsalvadorps

Which BB OP’s have you seen? CS2 CSEX and the original (arcade not console) CS were pretty good

      • venomryu

        tekken

        • LynxAmali

I was reffering to Arc Sys games. Shoulda made that more clear when I posted. I’m not even a Tekken fan so I know nothing about them…..

    • heartless141

It’s not entirely bad if you understand the jokes (which was the same as the TGS trailer)
eg Yuu was called a Siscon Banchou,

      • HeatPhoenix

Don’t worry. I got the jokes back then too. But even that montage had more BAM and KABOOM than this one.

  • http://twitter.com/ZeroFlame16 ZeroFlame16

I really hope the us gets the console version.

  • Spirit Macardi

Kanji’s Japanese voice sounds a bit odd to me, though it could simply be because I’m so used to Troy Baker.

By the way, if this gets localized then I hope they bring back him and all the other voice actors: Johnny Yong Bosch, Yuri Lowenthal, etc.

    • Testsubject909

      Watching the Persona 4 anime.

The voice for Kanji there sounded more like Shadow Kanji then actual Kanji. Way too effeminate.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1769064526 Vivian Mai

Loving the slight animations. Oh hey there, shadow Kanji.

Hoping for a subbed version soon so I can understand the jokes. Yu is a siscon banchou. “Of course” he says! Hehe.

  • Yu_TheKing

What did he call me ಠ益ಠ?

  • pothier.adrien

Notice the three question marks for Naoto’s weight ? :D

    • Testsubject909

Adds to the mystery of her bust size.

But apparently, it’s supposed to be quite substantially large, what with the surprise from the female cast as to how she was able to hide those things.

And thus, all DFC fans shed a single tear that day.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_Q6NXXGMO5XNSMJ64NIHYHFP56A Vince

Aw, they forgot the veteran P3 trio.

  • 4shiki

    Epic!

  • http://thrust-the-sky.deviantart.com/ WildArms

What they say when they present the MC HAHAHAHHAHA “Kawaii nanako dare ni mo watanzu!” (i wont hand over to anyone the kawaii nanako!)

  • Raiu

Fighting games are not usually my thing… but this game and the awesome opening might change my mind..

  • neetyneety

I like how Yu replies with a “Of course/Naturally” when the announcer calls him a siscon banchou lol

    • Testsubject909

      That’s because he’s damn Pimp.

      • Yu_TheKing

        Its only Natural.

      • Dantis

That scene made no sense in the game. It made even less than that in the anime.

  • Hinataharem

    Yukiko’s Fan:  “Screw gravity”

    • Testsubject909

Yukiko’s hair says that as well.

  • Solomon_Kano

I need this in my life.

  • PrinceHeir

    i freaking love the music!!!!!!

still baffeled as to why “Persona 4″ Ultmate in Mayonaka Arena despite having Persona 3 characters etc.

i just hope they make another one with all of the Persona Series Cast.
oh and Shin Megami Tensei too(include also the separate entry series like Digital Devil Saga and Devil Summoner)

can you imagine Digital Devil Saga characters devouring everyone???

    imagine that O_____O

    • Testsubject909

      Hitoshura would win.

Oh, I know, you can beat him with the crew from DDS, but let’s be honest. Think on the way he fights and you can tell… He’s not taking you seriously in that fight. Any boss killing strategies that players most often typically utilizes, he never touches. The demons he summons are all stock rather then the high ranking ones he has access to (and let’s not make any mistake, if he has his lv 80 pixie with him, he has access to those high ranking ones because it confirms he made it to the lowest floors of Amala).

If Hitoshura fought seriously, they’d all be dead. All of them… (Hell, when you win, all he does is shrug and leave)

      • PrinceHeir

i think Serph can take him as well :P

in fact they are both similar to be honest XD

i just want that game O_______O

  • Testsubject909

Ah… Naoto… Your cute self with your IQ of 200 and actually bringing a weapon that’ll most likely kill your friends in a competition where they’re bringing a knife in a gunfight.

I would’ve mained you so hard if it wasn’t for the fact that Mitsuru was in this game.

  • Raival

Well I’ve never played Persona 4 before (I really want to though) but I have 3 questions:
    1) Where’s Rise?
    2)What’s up with Kanji’s voice? o_O
3)What’s the ost in this vid? It’s freaking epic!

    • Yesshua

I can help with two of those:

Rise never participated in combat directly in Persona 4, so that’s why she isn’t in as a combatant here either I would guess.

I know the Persona 4 ost quite well by now, and this isn’t part of that.  I’ll wager the ost in this video is originally scored for the game :)

Can’t help you with Kanji’s voice though, sorry.
