Theatrhythm: Final Fantasys First Batch Of DLC Will Be These 8 Songs

Retail blog, Sinobi, brings us details on Theatrhythm: Final Fantasy downloadable content from this week’s issue of Famitsu magazine. The first batch of DLC, Famitsu reveals, will be available at launch. Japanese players will be able to download these 8 additional songs, each one priced at 150 yen (about $2):

Battle stage songs:

Final Fantasy II: Battle Scene 1

Final Fantasy IV: The Final Battle

Final Fantasy XI: Fighters of the Crystal

Final Fantasy XIII: Fighting Fate

Field stage songs:

Final Fantasy V: Seeking the Light

Final Fantasy VII: Cosmo Canyon

Final Fantasy VIII: Ride On

Final Fantasy X: Someday the Dream Will End

That’s a total of 1,200 yen (about $15.60) for all 8 tracks. Square Enix will release new downloadable songs for Theatrhythm every 2-3 weeks. These songs won’t be limited to just the mainline numbered games.

Theatrhythm: Final Fantasy is slated for release on February 16th.

Only $2? Good job Square, i could easily see them charging like $5 a pop.

    • http://www.siliconera.com Ishaan

They’re still making a pretty penny. Theatrhythm has 50-ish songs. If they release an equal number of DLC tracks, that’s 7,500 yen. :P

      • James Beatty

Yeah, but Square has been known to overprice their digital offerings (at least in the iOS app store) and seeing as they could sell these songs are they are for $1-2 on itunes if they wanted to it’s surprising they aren’t charging more for the song in this game.

        • http://www.siliconera.com Ishaan

That’s true, although some might say that Theatrhythm itself is overpriced. :P

      • http://twitter.com/DanijoEX DanijoEX

I do see $2 as a decent price. Are some of the songs will be from the spin-offs (aside from the main series) ?

        Wait…scratch that…never mind…. I wasn’t paying attention.

    • daizyujin

Eh………..$2 seems a little on the high side to me considering unlike games like Guitar Hero or Rock Band, licensing costs are not really much of an issue here as I imagine SquareEnix either outright owns or partially owns all of the music to is Final Fantasy games.  It makes it worse that A, this is being announced before the game is released showing it could have been on the cart to begin with and B, the game is already extremely overpriced from the start.

      To each his own though.

      • James Beatty

If you go to itunes most songs are about $1-2, they are putting it in the game.

  • aoihana

I think 150円 is a reasonable price per song, considering how awesome they’ve been(Judging from the demo and PV’s).  (^O^ ✿)☆♪

Although, I do wish they had a 1000円 pack for all 8. Although it would only be 200円 less, it certainly adds up! ( ̄^ ̄✿)

Regardless, I wont be picking up Theatrhythm any time soon, I’ll have my fix of rhythm games with Project Mirai next month. Though, I do see myself picking it up in the next few months. (^v^)

Nice to know I’ll have some DLC waiting for me until then. (◕‿◕✿)

  • http://twitter.com/alixraen alixraen

A bit surprised to see some songs like FF2′s normal battle theme and FF4′s final battle theme as DLC, but I’m also pleasantly surprised to hear that not all DLC will be from the main series. The Tactics series and Crystal Chronicles series both had some great songs.

And so help me if there is a Mystic Quest song as DLC, this will be a day one purchase for me. :P Hold me to it.

  • Ty Arnold

Of course. Announce DLC songs before announcing what songs will be in the game before announcing what will be there to begin with. That won’t make you seem like an even greedier company than Capcom or anything.

    • http://www.siliconera.com Ishaan

Whatever are you talking about? DLC for Theatrhythm has only come up in the last month or so. We’ve known about the game for ages.

  • takopako

    battle scene 1 <3

  • KotaroInugami

I’m a strong believer in that if DLC is available at launch, it should have been placed in the game already. :/

    • daizyujin

Tell that to Capcom with their Street Fighter IV and MvC3 outfits.  This is bad true, but hardly the worst offender.

      • KotaroInugami

Yes that’s bad as well. It gives the illusion of the possibility that they purposely left the content out so as to earn extra cash. :/

There are a number of ways that DLC has been taken advantage of.

        • http://twitter.com/DanijoEX DanijoEX

Normally, I’m kinda neutral on the whole DLC thing. Back then (as in the days of the Dreamcast at least), most companies didn’t put much into DLC other than being extras (like themes, extra missions, items/weapons).

But then after awhile, DLC evolved to the point of characters, costumes, music, etc. becoming DLC themselves. Most people nowadays just feel that games are not as complete as they were in the past.

Companies and developers, like Sony, Microsoft, Square Enix etc, often take advantage of DLC to rake in moolah/cash.
Though there are free DLC but not much is around.

While Nintendo seemed to have been avoiding it up until now. Sega, on the other hand,…it’s hard to say how they manage theirs.

But that’s pretty much all I have to say. Sorry for the long comment. But I don’t think I explained it right. You may need to correct me. But that’s just my opinion.

          • http://twitter.com/seph_luis_br Luis Camargo

As I understood, you meant that the idea of DLC isn’t bad but it’s the publishers that are using it in a bad way to get more money. And with a better management, DLC could actually provide great content which people would gladly pay and publishers would also get their cash in a win-win situation.

For me, the first experience with DLC was Burnout Paradise and it was awesome since the whole game was reinvented thanks to DLC. Unfortunatelly, not all companies use DLC like that =(

I still hope that the US version of theatrhythm will pack some of those DLCs. I don’t think it’s right to sell DLC music in the game launch. Still, if they keep suporting the title this can become one of the most memorable compiliations of FF music.

          • http://twitter.com/DanijoEX DanijoEX

Yeah, I would love to see companies do that in more honest ways but lord knows when that will ever happen.

  • http://www.facebook.com/snelkin Sarah Louise Nelkin

Cosmo Canyon, dude! So excited! But come on, DLC for 2 bucks at launch? Just stick it in the game!

  • Angeru_Lito

I don’t know who told Square that they need to release DLC without it actually making sense or being appropiate , the DLC stuff with XIII-2 already seems gross, at least make DLC for costmetic optional stuff like in Dissidia 012, is one thing to sell skins and whatnot but for a game about playing songs you should have all or most of the main ones available in the game.

    • http://twitter.com/followthereader Matt Davidson

So you’d rather, in a game about playing songs, have DLC which makes the characters look a little different, than have more songs to play?

      Really?

Um . . . wow. Personally, I prefer DLC that’s fun for more than ‘Wow, Zidane’s a pirate now.’

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Farid-Belkacemi/1073052585 Farid Belkacemi

Why Square Enix… Why ? I didn’t buy FF XIII-2 because of DLC – waiting for the GOTY – and I guess I’ll do the same for Theatrhythm… I’m more interested in, you know : COMPLETE games.

  • Syltique

When you think about it, it’s kind of inevitable that this will have DLC.  The alternative is expecting them to put 13 soundtracks in the game in full; most of them being 80 tracks each.  That’s not very realistic.

  • JustThisOne

I wonder if they’ll ever get to releasing these in bundles or value packs.

Happy to see Cosmo Canyon on there. Ride On is going to be epic for the first ten seconds or so. And Someday the Dream Will End is going to be so depressing and terrible to play though, hahaha.

Final Fantasy X: Someday the Dream Will End”

Come on! Not one of my favorite songs ;(

  • kupomogli

    Prerelease DLC ftw. /sarcasm.

I’m still interested in True Crime Hong Kong or whatever they name it to. Let’s hope I get the full game and don’t have to spend another $20 on release day DLC to get the complete version.

    • http://twitter.com/#!/kaishou Kaishou

      LOL!

    • http://www.siliconera.com Ishaan

Let’s not be ridiculous here. This is a music game. All music games have DLC.

  • http://twitter.com/advanced_wind Vinicius Machado

Isn’t “Fighters of the Crystal” a FFXI song?

    • http://twitter.com/Strifey Jack

Yeah, Fighters of the Crystal is the battle music for the Ark Angel BCs in the Rise of the Zilart expansion.

    • http://www.siliconera.com Ishaan

      Indeed it is! Fixed. :)

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Nick-Tetlow/1301633575 Nick Tetlow

“Final Fantasy IX: Fighters of the Crystal”

If i’m not mistaken, that song is from FFXI not FFIX, though there is a song in FFIX with the word “crystal” in, Which was a sort of remix of the prelude theme, but i’m not sure that is the same song.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Kenay-Metcalfe/100000341878000 Kenay Metcalfe

Oh square enix a sad day indeed once you guys decided to jump on the DLC bandwagon. buying all of these songs every 2-3weeks is really going to add up.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Kevin-Miranda-Salazar/643669155 Kevin Miranda Salazar

So we have basically an overpriced mini Final Fantasy game here that it is also an imcomplete game selling us DLCs on a pre-release?
Haha thanks SE but NO THANKS, I lost the interest I initially had.

Off-topic: This it’ll be Foreveralone but I’ve just got a 3ds :3 Sadly my friends don’t own one (yet) so I can’t try some multiplayer features so, does someone mind in trading Friend Codes with me? I don’t bite :3

  • http://www.siliconera.com Jenni

Oh dear. I’m going to be broke if (when, hopefully) this is released here. I’m a sucker for songs I like in music games and have a weakness for Final Fantasy.

I haven’t even opened my copy of Final Fantasy XIII-2 yet (I wanted to finish another game first), but I’ve already bought the Lightning and Amodar DLC.

  • WizardoftheBlueOrder

Fighters of the Crystal is apparently an FFXI song, not FFIX.

  • http://bmgf.bulbagarden.net/members/55321.html FinalArcadia

Show me some FFXII and Tactics Advance tracks in addition to those from IV’s fantastic soundtrack, and we might have a deal, Square-Enix.

  • http://twitter.com/followthereader Matt Davidson

    VERY IMPORTANT QUESTION.

Do we know if Swing de Chocobo’s going to be included anywhere? Ooh SE could charge me what they like for that little beauty. I LOVE THE CHOCOBO THEME

Anyone who doesn’t break into a big smile when the Chocobo music starts is dead in their soul.

  • http://www.facebook.com/iNatsu.Sora Natsu Azure’Sora

i hope the messenger of dissidia comes for the game

  • Joanna

    2$ is expensive for me, even 1$ is going to be painful. I love so many songs from all the Final Fantasy games….trying to get all my favourites is going to be way too expensive for me. ;__; I guess I’ll have to settle for 10 songs then… ;^;
