Kingdom Hearts 3D English Recording Underway, Some Actors Already Done

In December, Square Enix announced a 2012 release for Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance in North America and Europe, but didn’t say when or how far along they were in the localization process.

Reports this week indicate that English voice-recording sessions for Kingdom Hearts 3D are well underway, with some of the cast already having wrapped up their work on the game. KHInsider report that Vincent Corazza, who reprises his role as Zexion in the game, is done with recording.

Additionally, Jesse David Corti, the voice-actor who played Neku in The World Ends With You, is recording for the same character for Kingdom Hearts 3D as well. A week ago, Corti revealed over Twitter that was “about finished” with recording his lines.

    I wonder who’s going to play kid-Sora……again.

    • Solomon_Kano

      Same guy from before probably.

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_Q6NXXGMO5XNSMJ64NIHYHFP56A Vince

Our little Sora is now all grown-up. :)

        • AuraGuyChris

Lies. The one on the picture looks kidish to me.

          • CrazyKnives

Yeah it still bothers me that he looks YOUNGER rather than OLDER all things considered.

          • http://twitter.com/Xander_VJ David García Abril

Haley Joel Ostment’s voice is definitely not kiddie anymore.

You can look at him in “Re:Chain of Memories” and it shows badly.

So I guess that’s what we’re gonna get, unless Ostment has learned how to make his voice sound younger (it can be done, although it’s like they can make miracles).

          • Solomon_Kano

That has to do with the game’s story taking place across the dream world or whatever. That’s why we also see Riku in both his KH/II form as well as with a new look.

@twitter-112139481:disqus He’ll likely be voiced by the guy who did young Sora in BBS if Osment isn’t up to it.

          • phillysaur

I can’t reply directly to the voice reply so here it is, it would be cheaper to find someone else, but it wouldn’t have the same emotion in the voice. Osment has been doing Sora’s voice for 10 years now, he knows Sora’s vocal patterns very well. When it gets down to it, I think it’s just based on whether or not SE wants to do minor changes in his audio. It’s a fairly simple fix of just one slider and maybe a knob :)

    Yeah o/

    This is good news :3

  • 27CansOfTuna

Will this be my first time hearing most of the cast english voices, I cant recall if most had speaking roles in CoM on the game boy, Im excite.

    • IvanAzure

I don’t remember CoM having voices at all. xD
Unless they were used in the (two) ending movies. ^_^’
EDIT: I forgot the battle voices though. xD

      • 27CansOfTuna

Hm, I guess it was just battle voices.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_EUSPDCE22Z6ETYY3W5XRZ2SFZU Darrel

Yes! Good to see they are not sitting on it like they did with BBS.

  • Prinnydoom

Excellent news ^__^ DDD should be here in no time

  • Haou_Yamata

Please let this mean that we won’t have to wait 8 months after the Japanese release like the other KH games.  Pleasssee

    • http://twitter.com/Xander_VJ David García Abril

Normally, when they are recording the lines it means the localization process is not that far away from conclusion.

I’d say maybe they still have 2 or 3 months more of localization ahead of them.

Of course, there is always the possibility that something goes wrong and they have to record some lines again, which would make a pretty big delay. Of course, Square Enix would be first one being pissed off if that happened (they’d be loosing big money, not to mention screwing up their year schedule), but it can hapen.

Anyway, keep in mind that even if they finish the localization soon, that doesn’t always mean the game is going to be released right away.

Once that process is finished, is up to the marketing market to choose a date in which they hope sales would be maximized.

So Neku really does have his same English VA as in TWEWY? Awesomeness.

    • AuraGuyChris

      Luckily, I’ll follow his lead.

      *Screw that!*

  • AnimeRemix

Can’t wait to hear more of the TWEWY cast english voices! <3

  • Opn

heh guess were getting this sooner then we thought which is good need something to play on my 3DS after kid icarus comes out :).

  • Herok

this better mean we get the game by may, i dont think my sainity would last longer seeing as the 3ds is region locked

  • AuraGuyChris

    *Sees image*

Neku, run! You can’t trust a guy with that kind of face! Remember the incident with Shadow Ramen guy Mick!

    • CrazyKnives

       Sora’s rape face lol

    • darkbartz

What? Don’t you want some hot stuff?

  • ShadowWolf

    excellent

  • http://twitter.com/tyrindigit Tyrin Robinson

Hope this means we get the game faster.

  • kuro_chan666

Well, SE has some(but not every) dub listenable, but I still think KH’s dub is one of their worst, meaning, I don’t want it.
But oh wait, I won’t get it, my 3DS is japanese, so I’m impoting it, and will have japanese voices.

    • http://twitter.com/eliezer_santos Eliézer Santos

Kingdom hearts and worst dubbing in the same sentence?

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001200086652 Jake Huston

dude u are no kingdom hearts fan gtfo

      • http://twitter.com/Xander_VJ David García Abril

Funny, considering KH Japanase fans themselves like the English dub a lot better than the Japanese one.

        • kuro_chan666

If I listened to someone else’s opinion(no matter who it is), I’d lose my own. And I think KH’s dub is as bad as I say.
Also, I only played the first KH with dub, then I played KH2 in japanese(mainly because I didn’t want to wait for it to get translated, it was the first game I played FULLY in japanese), and then Birth by Sleep and DS’s ones too.

          • http://www.facebook.com/AshCrimsonTJL Theofratus ‘Geese’ Lester

But the question is, do you understand or read Japanese?  And before you ask me the same question, yes, I do.  Hence why I typed “誰も気にしない!” as a reply to your comment.

    • Elemiel

What do you want, a cookie?

    • http://www.facebook.com/AshCrimsonTJL Theofratus ‘Geese’ Lester

      誰も気にしない!

      Btw, your argument is invalid.

  • rurin

    Will buy. Definitely!

  • SuigetsuHiramura

From the few lines of voiced dialogue that Neku had in the TWEWY, I really liked Neku’s english dub XD  I glad about Corti’s reprisal and my excitement for this game has reached a fever pitch ^_^

  • Masengan

When this game comes out I will literally run to the nearest store get a 3DS and get this game and play it until the 3D effect makes me go blind.

  • SpecDotSign

As a fan that has played every KH game, should I care about this one? Square-Enix acting cute with the KH franchise makes me sick. Placing games on different consoles. Don’t like it. I’ve invested in a Vita and I don’t see myself getting a 3DS soon. But hopefully this game changes my mind. Since they’re almost done does this mean we’ll get some FF versus XIII news? Please, Nomura!

    • Solomon_Kano

      In order:

Yes. As anyone who played BBS and 358/2 will attest to, beyond being relevant to the series overall story, these games always add a new gameplay wrinkle to the series. As a fan of the series myself, I find that in and of itself reason enough to look forward to this. I understand your issue though. I’ll be getting my Vita on the 22nd and I’ve yet to get a 3DS and it -is- rather hard to justify buying a whole new system for one game. I’d recommend waiting until the 3DS has more that suits your interests. Personally, I’m waiting out a Theatrythm localization announcement or the KH3D bundle being announced for the US. Whichever comes first.

No, since Nomura’s team isn’t actively developing it. As with most KH games he had some involvement, but not enough to have put his work on Versus XIII on hold. Which is to say that the likelihood of more news on it is no greater after the game releases than it was before. We’ll see news, but it won’t have to do with the fact that this is out of the way.

tl;dr Yes, you should care about KH3D because it’s important to the series story and is changing the gameplay a good deal; no, you shouldn’t expect more Versus news just b/c this is nearly done.

      • SpecDotSign

        Thanks.
But I recall reading somewhere that SE wanting to get FF XIII-2 and KH 3D out of the way before announcing anything related to the Type-0 (localization) and FFvXIII. I’m bitter when it comes to SE this gen. I was excited when they announced FF XIII. I was even excited when I played the game. Upon finishing it I thought to myself, “what the hell did I just play?”. It wasn’t a good Final Fantasy game in my opinion. And then SE goes and puts versus on the back burner and blames FF IVX for the loss of faith in the series. SE, in my opinion are a mess this gen. I honestly think that the Eidos acquisition was their saving grace. As you can see, I am eagerly anticipating Type-0 and Versus XIII. Ironically enough, Type-0 seems like the closest thing to a genuine traditinal Final Fantsy out of the 3.
Sorry for that final fantasy rant. Anyway, the 3DS already has some games I’m interested in, but I’m going to wait on the inevitable re-design. Maybe then I’ll pick up KH 3D. It does seem like a cool game. I skipped 358/2 because I think the whole Organization XIII story is dumb. I’ve yet to finish BBS completely. All I need is the Ventus storyline to get the “true” ending. As a fellow Kingdom Hearts fan, should I finish BBS in its entirety and should I give 358/2 a shot?
        Again thanks!

        • Herok

honesty don’t wait for the 3DS, being blunt there wont be on for a while, Nintendo has stated multiple times that if they remake the 3ds it would like the XL, they aren’t going to add the second stick to the system seeing as only 5 games use it.

        • Göran Isacson

Welp, I may be interrupting here BUT… before this game I would have told you to give 358/2 a pass, because none of what it revealed seemed to add to the overall plotline. You can play it and know nothing more about Xemnas and his big plan than you did before starting the game. That game is mostly about Roxas and why he left the organisation, mostly because of Xion. I found that story bearable, but not very important.

However, it looks like the story of Xion will be of SOME importance since it looks like she’ll star in 3D. Meaning that 358 may end up becoming more important than I first suspected. I would definitely recommend finishing BBS as the last part of the game reveals quite a lot of useful information, but 358… eh, I don’t know. I found BBS a far more enjoyable game, even if 358 had some interesting ideas. Maybe worth it if you can find it for dirt-cheap.

        • Solomon_Kano

No problem. If they’re waiting to get those 2 out of the way to speak on Type-0 that would make sense, but regardless I’d have expected them to say something by E3. That’s really their best opportunity.

While it’s not a feeling I share, I can understand the bitterness at SE. I wasn’t fond of XIII — I still haven’t beaten it, I just lost interest. Blaming XIV for a loss of interest isn’t entirely right of them, it’s not entirely wrong either. I’d argue that shipping a terrible game hurt more than a mediocre one. That game damaged the FF name in the eyes of many, XIII just dirtied it. I’d not call it a rant because many people have issues with SE these days. You don’t seem to have decided to out and out boycott them or anything, so I don’t mind discussing them. I also agree that the Eidos acquisition was a great thing. I’m not so doom and gloom on SE as others, but that was a VERY good move on their part.

As someone said below a re-design on the 3DS isn’t too likely to happen. There aren’t enough games slated to use the 2nd slider add-on for Nintendo to think it important enough to garner a revision. Any future 3DS will probably just have a better battery or some other such minor touch-up. As for BBS, I haven’t finished it myself lol. But I’d say that you should finish it, I’m currently doing so myself. Prior to seeing Xion’s inclusion in this game I’d have said you should skip 358/2 but, seeing that she’s apparently relevant here, I’d say you give it a shot. I’d hate for you to skip that and play 3D and not know what’s what.

dude what are u talking about kh3d was shown at e3 in i think 2010 they did not know a new psp was comming plus they only made for 3ds cause like the wii u they wanted to test the 3ds power dude just u dont have doesnt mean u have to cry about i invested in a 3ds myself and im very happy i did the vita is crap could not surpass the 3ds in sales which is sad the vita just came from nowhere now u are saying the 3ds is terrible man u are one stupid idot for thinking that i own a psp and its crap compared ds so what if its not on a sony console grow up i want naruto ultimate ninja storm for wii u but im not complaing.

      • SpecDotSign

You mad bro? Lol. Dude take it easy. Just because I’m not crazy about the 3DS like you doesn’t mean I don’t want one. And no, KH 3D was shown at Tokyo Game Show before ever appearing at E3.

        • MizuMikomi

It was teased as “Kingdom Hearts 3D Demo” at Nintendo’s 3DS reveal at E3 2010. At that time it did not have a title, but there was a short tech demo for it that people could ‘watch’ on the show floor.

TGS that year is when we started getting media about it, and the actual title. But E3 2010 is when it was revealed, as a project, but a reveal nonetheless.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Kevin-Miranda-Salazar/643669155 Kevin Miranda Salazar

Im already bought, I was afraid Neku’s voice would change since it was quite long since TWEWY was made and perhaps they couldn’t get his original voice actor (Sometimes it happens in some games).
I can’t sincerely wait for this game, it makes me feel great that I’ve bought a 3ds! :D
And lol at the people complaining at the extensive yet important “spin-offs”.

    • AuraGuyChris

At least his VA isn’t with an union. Those unions like to screw games up when they have some sort of sequel or call back like Overlord Zetta’s Crispin Freeman being changed to Patrick Seitz in Disgaea 4.

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Stephen-Mc-Devitt/100002626261475 Stephen Mc Devitt

The voice acting equivalent to the Frat Pack. Johnny Yong Bosch, Yuri Lowenthal and Liam O’Brian are no different from Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn.

Hopefully the other original TWEWY VA are in too…

  • http://twitter.com/FaithlessMr Bruno Silva

Well, to be fair, it’s not like Zexion talked much anyway lol. He’s a mysterious, quiet character.

  • Göran Isacson

Still not holding out hope we’re getting this in the West any later than Fall, Winter most likely. I think I recall BBS dub being done early 2010, and that game still took its sweet time getting here.

  • http://www.facebook.com/AshCrimsonTJL Theofratus ‘Geese’ Lester

    Kingdom Hearts 2.5, can’t wait.  :)

Now Square Enix.  Make sure that THIS is the very last Kingdom Hearts game (with prequels and substories) you’ll ever make and start workin’ on Kingdom Hearts III, ’cause I’m sure a lot of us KH fans want to see the whole Keyblade Wars, and then some.

Plus, the only new worlds I would love to see are Metroville (The Incredibles) and (maybe) The Princess and the Frog

    • AuraGuyChris

So…you’re saying this should be the last KH game.

      • http://www.facebook.com/AshCrimsonTJL Theofratus ‘Geese’ Lester

Like I said, “with prequels and substories”.

It’s time that everyone wants to see “III” already.

        • Solomon_Kano

That’s been the case for some time, but I’m rather glad that they’ve used these interquels, prequels, etc. to flesh out the story.

I want to see KH III as much as anybody, but… well, the alternative was no KH until Nomura was finishes Versus. So picture that. KH II in ’06 followed by a 6+ (since we know Versus isn’t coming this year) year wait? I think that would’ve been worse than getting some games in between to show us more of this universe.

Still, you should be getting your wish. Nomura did say 3D would be the last game before 3 since its story is supposed to lead directly into it.

          • IvanAzure

But what about “Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep vol. 2″? =/
I wanted that before “KH III” as I can’t see BbS2 making sense after KH3 unless they decided to make BbS2 contain some epic plot twist that showed how there’s more to be done for KH post-Xehanort. ^^

          • Solomon_Kano

Hm… that’s good question. It’s possible that Vol. 2′s story is contained within 3D, since I -think- the statement that it would be the last before 3 came after Vol. 2 was teased.

Or perhaps they just changed their minds and will be doing Vol. 2 anyway. A plot-twist concerning post-Xehanort KH certainly isn’t out of the question. I mean, Nomura did say that 3 was only the end of the Xehanort saga.

          • IvanAzure

@Solomon_Kano:disqus  I guess we’ll only be sure of anything when KH 3 is finally announced (or maybe when 3D is released and its secret ending been unlocked). ^^
I totally hope for Birth by Sleep to be a new game nonetheless and, possibly, released to Vita as that would mean a big reason for me to get that thing (when I have enough money for it [2017+ or so]). Yeah, I do think such a plot twist will happen, probably hinted by the secret ending of KH III. ^^ I just don’t think BbS 2 would fit after KH III because, well, isn’t it supposed to happen before 3 (maybe even before 2 [or at least 3D])? As far as I know, such a thing would only make sense if [HUGE SPOILERS FOR RE:CODED AND EVERY SINGLE GAME AFTER 2, I GUESS]:
            a) Sora didn’t get to reconnect and save the people suffering.
            b) Aqua was still missing. (Which seems to not be the case considering the last trailer)
            c) The events between BbS and 3D were somehow obscure (maybe even unknown to Aqua [amnesia or something like that]) and somehow the “BbS 2 incident” actually being tied to the next villain in the series, as in someone acting to bring the worlds to darkness while people (read: “the good guys”) were busy enough with the Xehanorts.
            [END OF SPOILERS]
Sorry for the long post. ^_^’ So, basically, it’s either Birth by Sleep vol 2 before KH III or something should happen in the plot to make BbS vol. 2 still relevant to the progress of the series IMO. ^^

          • Solomon_Kano

Yea, I’d prefer that BBSv2 be for Vita. It’d make sense since the original was on PSP and the 3DS is seeing DDD after 2 KH games on the original DS. I’ll be getting mine day 1, but that’d be an awesome incentive for those who aren’t on board with it yet.

I get what you’re saying about BBSv2 not fitting after 3, so perhaps the game would take place before III but its events not hit their payoff til after. If that makes any sense. Like have the game lead directly towards things addressed in III but also have some threads (secret ending) that would be open post-KH3.

No problem on the long post. It’s an interesting thing to discuss. I’d really like to see where they go with a BBSv2.

          • phillysaur

Reply to All four of us: The secret ending for BBS shows Aqua having a conversation with Ansem the Wise after the big moon explosion in II so in theory, it would make sense to make that after 3D because it doesn’t chronologically cover and events after 2. Hopefully not because a game about sitting in the realm of darkness and talking to an old guy with amnesia seems boring. This is a little bit off topic but, in the secret ending of BBS FM it shows Aqua looking at a dark Cinderella castle. This would probably be around the events of KH I since Cinderella’s world was in the darkness then. I think BBS2 should be Aqua saving the worlds that are in the realm of darkness :)

          • IvanAzure

@phillysaur:disqus Well, what I meant is that I think it’ll be 3D -> BbS 2 -> 3. Unless BbS2 has some plot twist that leads to post-Xehanort KH (KH 4, for instance?). ^^
            That’s all I said. o/

It’s amazing how often peoples don’t read properly and after leave comment like this…

        • haqua

I think they may be implying that we’ve been waiting for three for a while and since it /won’t/ be happening in a while, you might as well say 3D will be the last one.
…I think. I’m not really sure if it’s a comment meant as a joke or not…

       What about

The Bouncer world (Sora meets his dad Sion Barzahd)
Racing Lagoon world  (Sora goes night time drifting)
Heavy Metal Thunder world  (Sora controls remote control fighting robots)
Tobal 2 world  (Sora goes on a dungeon quest with Gren Kuts)
Tangled world (Sora plays with Rapunzel’s hair)

If there are some english actors voicing for the game i hoping for the summer release of kingdom hearts 3D i don’t want it to come out in the late 2012 not fall or winter 2012 because may i remind some of you i want a summer release for kingdom hearts 3D Dream Drop Distance and i’m hoping for Haley Joel Osment, Jesse Mccartney, David Gallgher, Bret Iwan, Corey Burton, Russi Taylor, Tony Anselmo, Bill Farmer, and other actors who were in the past kingdom hearts games to reprise their characters in KH:3D DDD in the Summer Of 2012. Only I want the game to be released in the U.S on Summer 2012.

    • Nathaniel Strangman

Agreed. I would LOVE to see Kevin Kline, Demi Moore, Tom Hulce, Jeff Bridges, Garrett Hedlund, Olivia Wilde, and hopefully a Bruce Boxleitner cameo at the end of the Grid world, amoung others. I would pay TOP Dollar if it had most of the orignal voices in the NA release.
