Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions Finally Makes Its iPad Debut

By Ishaan . February 23, 2012 . 12:00pm

Square Enix released Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions on the iPhone last year, but they were also working on a separate iPad version of the game alongside. Today, the iPad version has finally been released. Square say that waiting times have been sped up for this version, and that cutscenes can be skipped.

Does it suffer from the same slowdown during spell effects that the PSP version suffered from or did they fix that?

There’s a comment on the iTunes page by a single user that says the slowdown has improved in the iPad version. Make of that what you will…

Please my reply to Omikuji above

Interesting, but I think I’ll stick to the PSP version.

I really like it on the Vita, though it would be even better if they released a Vita optimized version pump up the sprites a la the iOS versions.

        This. :>

I mean if they make new HD sprites and such for the iPad they should totally make a Vita port as well.. I’ve never played War of the Lions, since I never owned a PSP and after all I heard about the PSP version’s slowdowns I’m not that eager to get the PSP version for my Vita now.. D:

    • Shadow_Raskolnik

That’s true (not to mention that the game is also cheaper on PSN), but as Dan Knowles mentioned it would be nice to have the optimized sprites like this version does.

They better have fixed up that spell/attack lag that was in the PSP, that just got plain ridiculous when playing with a calculator or using a massive spell’d character. I mean, the long wait to the ipad should have gave them ample time to fix that up…

    Right?…. Right??? D8

I like the translations and additions to the PSP version, but the slow down was sooo bad I couldn’t play very long because I got so impatient. If they fixed it, I’m buying, if they didn’t, I’ll stick to playing the PS1 version on my PSP and just pretend the additions never existed

Its odd actually, I own it on the iPhone 4S and the game is actually sped up. I think SE coded it for the iP4. No lag on the spell casting, if anything its much faster than the original. I’d expect the iPad 2 version would be on equal footing if they coded it for the original iPad.

      • Omikuji

Oh! That’s great! I had heard from a number of people that the lag was still there on the iphone so I was always hesitant to buy the game there. But with that knowledge I can get the ipad version without worry (while I tell my sister to get it for the iphone, since she was seriously bothering me about it just a few hours ago XD such timing!)

As I understand it, it was, but I read they did an update and ironed it out (I bought mine on sale, post update so I never saw the previous version). Bear in mind though I am on the 4S, cant vouch for the 4 ^_^

I love the hell out of FF Tactics. Owning three versions of the same game is a bit much, though. I held onto the original PS version for the sake of memories and the like. The PSP version, despite the bugs, is perfect for on the go. I’m glad FFT is getting more love on the iOS but I figure by this point people own at least one version of it.

i already own a original PS1 and PSP one, not interested to buy it once again, i hope instead porting it Square Enix should make a new one with core of original team like Yasumi Matsuno,Akihiko Yoshida,Hitoshi Sakimoto on the board

  • awaiken

worth the price. Glad I passed on the psp and iphone version now. This is the best turn based strategy game ever, I’d even put it over the original xcom.

  • PABLO Rapetti Perez

The same as Class zero, it is time for a new one. Or at least, a new Tactics Ogre. They milked enough the original tactics. Matsuno needs to direct a follow up to one of those sagas.

    • http://twitter.com/class_zero Class_zero

sadly SE doesn’t willing to take the risk creating new one, they prefer safe bet by port/remake as Yasumi Matsuno once stated during interview about Tactics Ogre PSP remake  that from SE view is more safe to remake an original than making a new one, the next probably we will see FFT:Wol come to android or Tactics Ogre PSP come to Ios device
