“Is It Real, Or Is It Fox?” Asks Kojima Productions Fox Engine Image

Here’s a question Kojima Productions are posing to potential applicants for their team to work on the next Metal Gear game:

“The 2 sets of images below depict our Kojima Productions meeting room. One set is comprised of digital photographs, while the other contains screenshots of the scene recreated in the Fox Engine and rendered in realtime. Can you tell which is Fox?”


The correct answer is the set of the images on the right, which were created in Fox Engine. The ones on the left are real photographs. Kojima Productions explain that no lightmaps are used during the rendering process, so even dynamic movable objects like this horse can be made to blend in naturally:
