Here’s Our Phantom Breaker Contest Winner!

By Ishaan . April 21, 2012 . 3:00pm

We’ve finally sorted through our Phantom Breaker art contest entrants and decided upon a winner. We had plenty of great contributions across several readers, and ultimately, we had to settle on this one from reader Dzoan:

We picked this entry was for a couple of reasons. First, the amount of detail in this piece is just incredible, right from the lollipop to the custom brass knuckles on the knife. It’s got personality. Beyond that, however, it’s a well-recognized archetype and it also fits right into the personality of Phantom Breaker itself. Congratulations! Dzoan sent in a few other entries as well, two of which were also considered for the winning spot:

Of course, we had some other fantastic entries as well, all of which were also in the running either because they were clever or drawn well (or both). Take a look at some of these below. We’ve excluded reader names and used alphabets instead, just in case our readers don’t want our names out there. Please feel free to come claim your work in the comments!

d. (because one can never have too many traps)

There were a bunch of other fantastic entries that we liked too, which you don’t see here. Some of these weren’t included because they either didn’t fit the “anime” style of the game or because they had potential but the creators didn’t really try to explain what they were going for. Regardless, we were all in awe of how talented so many of the people that read our site appear to be. Congratulations to all of you!

    Hello everyone, this is my first post here. I’m the artist of the h set: Akari, Natsu, and Victoria. Congrats to Dzoan and everyone who got featured. Looking at all your entries proves that I need to be much more creative in my designs. I’m humbled by all of your creative awesomeness.

    Just a quick question–is there going to be any use for these? I’m wondering because Akari was originally meant to be a FUaS chara (she’s a tennyo, thus the five colors) and it’d kind of suck if she can’t be used in my story. If there is a use, any chance I can revamp them? I’d love to show them in full fighting action.

    P.S. Hopefully there are more art contests along the way–they’re just too fun ^_^.

       Oooh, I liked yours a lot. They looked very professional.

  • :’) I honestly didn’t expect anyone to pick up on every single thing I had in mind when I designed her. That’s amazing. I was totally going for the warm/cold contrast there. Are you a mind reader? :X

    @Codemakura:disqus  should make a fighter. >:D Do it, do it, dooo ittt.

      I’d love, love to make a fighter, and have been rolling around the idea for years owo;; But sadly it’s just way beyond my skill level and I’d have to find someone capable of programming or something, since outside artistic skill, and playing a ton of video games there’s little I can do in that respect >3<;

    Haha thanks T3T precious appreciation~! Yeah although Oda’s stuff is a ways off art wise, I like characters to have something about them that pops and for characters to be over the top >w<; Alex has been an influence for years, way back when SG was just concept art on his site owo;; But yeah I'll try and post more stuff, somewhere, I still have a ways to go about being sensitive about it though o~o;

    Ohh Shizue was yours >w3<; Seriously your styles great, keep it up owo~

  • Maguro chan XD.

    Honestly though, there is some awesome talent here.
