Soulcalibur V’s New Batch Of DLC Has Tekken Costumes

The next batch of Soulcalibur V DLC brings even more costumes, including some from Namco Bandai’s other fighting series, Tekken. The DLC includes an Ancient Armor set, a Tekken set, and a Modern set. Take a look at the costume sets and screenshots below:

    Well, they better do it fast, or else the game is gonna fade away… it’s a good thing to emphasize on mutliplayer, like they did here, but it’s a really one to do it at the expense of lacking single-player content and favorite characters. Talim, Zasalamael, Yun-Seong, Seong Mina and Setsuka are all returning characters… that have unique fighting styles. In short, you can give me any new staff-wielding character that can replace Kilik, but if that new character plays like Kilik with a few tweaks, then I’ll be good. See ? In SC, we don’t play for the characters, but their fighting styles. In fact, I’m pretty sure that a lot of players made their own characters and chose the style that suit them best instead of just using an iconic character that has that style.
    
    Talim’s tonfa style, Zasalamael’s scythe style, Yun-Seong’s chinese saber style, Seong Mina’s single polearm style and Setsuka’s hidden blade style are all missing… and I’ll take that anyday over customization items. On a sidenote, they also said that the story mode was supposed to be longer… wouldn’t that a good way to complete it by sending us DLC chapters ?

      Agreed. Although I don’t think the game has the capacity for extra storylines. They did confirm that it supports dlc characters. But I’m not sure if the game itself supports extra storylines. I hope that it indeed supports storylines because unless you have the art book from the CE you actually have no idea what happened to the other characters.

        Ok, maybe I’ll get it wrong because I’m not a game designing wiz, but here’s how they could do for extra chapters.
        - They release extra DLC chapters, like one for each character (3 or 4 characters per package)
        - They also release a patch that upgrades the game so it can allow DLC chapters, like adding extra selectable modes, such as Story mode -> Viola’s vision / ZWEI’s vision / Ivy’s vision (vision, side, chronicle, whatever name they could give)
        - As for characters, they could just add the extra character in the custom character option, like you flip through your creation… and find a new character, like Talim for instance. No need to expand the select screen.
        
        The way I think they could do it is similar to how BlazBlue did it with the extra characters: they had free patches that changed the select screen to accommodate the 3 DLC characters. I’d said that if it can be done for characters, I’m pretty sure it can be done in menus and/or sub-menus.

        Adding new characters to the game is already baked into the game. They just have to make the content and release the character. However adding new story elements may be impossible depending on how they programmed it unless they made it in a way that it allows supporting additional content. This all needs to be built into the game otherwise the patch that they would have to do would be too complex and costly. The original plan was for every character to have a story. But it was cut from the game because they didn’t have enough time. Very few games actually add back the content they cut. However they might actually have though about adding the story through DLC and may have added the functionality. Wether that will come to pass or not rests solely on the creators of the game. We can only wait and hope.

I don’t really care for more armor, but I’ll definitely want to pick up the modern and Tekken packs at some point. King seems like an odd choice, though, since he doesn’t really have much going on in his outfit, but oh well.

Oh damn! I wish the would put more in a pack because 240ms points for a two sets of armor oh well I am a sucker for Soul Calibur so I will be buying.

Though I think the dlc should focus on new characters and story chapters. I have to admit the Ancient Armor gear is downright gorgeous!

If they want to keep on giving us more parts I hope they give us more ancient stuff. Armors and clothe from Classic-Medival-Renaissance eras! Also more mythological parts to do gods and demons or cursed warriors! That would be pretty epic XD
