North America gets another Virtual Console release for the Wii this week: the Sega Genesis version of Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers, with online play. The New Challengers has the 12 original fighters and also introduces Cammy, Dee Jay, Fei-Long and T. Hawk.

Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers costs 800 Wii points ($8).

On the Nintendo eShop front is another original 3DS game titled Block Factory, which lets you create your own falling block puzzle games. You can then share these games with other players using QR codes or Streetpass.

Block Factory costs $5 and is available in Europe today as well.

Doesn’t Wiiware already have like 10 versions of Street Fighter II?

Let me fix it for you.

Doesn’t Capcom already have like 10 versions of Street Fighter II?

They have more than that lol.

Online play in a Virtual Console title…has that happened very often?

  • VC Genesis SSF2 has online play?

I’m not objecting at all, I’m just very confused by this. Was there some form of adapter for the Genesis that allowed online play? O.o Is this a new feature built entirely from scratch for no particular reason? O.o

Tis sad though that most of the peeps who would want in on online SSF2 (that’s not HDR, ie the purists) probably aren’t in the Wii owning crowd anyway, although they’d probably prefer the ‘cast version anyway. Not sure if the Genesis port suffers at all due to hardware.

    • SNES version came out years ago. So they had to do something extra to make this version worth buying.

Kinda-sorta. The XBAND modem/service allowed online play for Super Street Fighter II on the Genesis back in the day.

Then again, it allowed for it on the SNES as well.

  • LMAO!! $8 for a Genesis version?

there’s a HD Remix version on PSN Store and it’s free for PS Plus subscriber, $10 for normal user.

  • Interesting choice, there.  Wasn’t really expecting the online play either.  Releases on the VC have been pretty sparse for a while, though, which is disappointing.  I guess it’s just a sign that Nintendo is shifting gears toward the 3DS and Wii U. :

  • Man once i have this game.
What irony. A game whose battle for exclusivity fired the latter part of 16bits war release to and from a console of that time enemy.
    Delicious irony.
In 20 years prior, will see U3 in Wii 4??
    Or Mario in Ps6?
