    Needs more Star Fox!

  • SirRichard

In this day and age of every third release being some variant of a shooter or military-focused, it’s good to see Nintendo can still knock out million-sellers.

Something interesting I noticed: Going by the sales of both Mario Kart 7 and Super Mario Land 3D, about 1 in 3~ or 30%~ of 3DS gamers will buy a Mario game at some point.

    That’s amazing! щ(゜ロ゜щ)

I’m very happy for Nintendo! ヾ(@^▽^@)ノ

I think almost all 3DS owners should buy at least one “mario” game imo. Whether it be mario kart or 3D land. They are probably the games i could most recommend to anyone picking up the system. RE revelations, Zelda oot 3D, and kid icarus are all fantastic games as well but they don’t seem to appeal to as much people as mario.

  • darkraiders

Super Mario 3D land sold more then half what Super Mario Galaxy sold i think that’s quite good considerating galaxy have been out much more longer then 3D land, on a consoles that have been sold much more then the 3DS.

Mario Kart 7 is quite good too and 17,13 millions 3DS sold i think that’s quite amazing for a handheld only a bit over 1 year old, just a few months ago so many were saying handheld was dead…well many still say that.

just wait till B&W2 lol sells are going to be insane

    • James Beatty

I’m sure B&W2 will sell well, but somehow i don’t expect it to sell nearly as well as B and W.

    • Julien_N

But B&W 2 are DS games, right? Unless they have huge bonuses when played on the 3DS, these games will not necessarily boost 3DS sales. On the contrary, they may even steal the spotlight given thier popularity. “^_^

  • Wait ti’ll that Fire Emblem Awakening come’s out those sales are gonna skyrocket.

  • IshimaruKaito

when kingdom hearts and fire emblem come out……ohhhhhhh just u wait!

    •  Kingdom Hearts bombed in Japan…

      •  Not selling better than Fire Emblem doesn’t necessarily mean it bombed.

      • James Beatty

No it didn’t. It didn’t sell as well the other portable KH games but that’s probably since the install base was a lot smaller.

      • Anime10121

Um no it didnt, besides Monster Hunter (which always sells more than KH anyway), Kingdom Hearts 3D has the highest 3rd party debut in the country.  It didnt do as well as previous entries, but thats more than likely because of the 3DS’ install base.

As I said before, no third party in Japan has done any better other than Monster Hunter which Capcom sprinkles the same kind of crack that Square sprinkles in their game cases for  Dragon Quest releases that make people rush out to get them (and I’m a huge DQ fan, well at least besides X, dont like MMOs).  :P

        • I think most people (like me) gave up on getting the KH games on release. You’ve got to own basicly every handheld console ever made, including a ps2 system to be able to play them all. PS2, GBA, NDS, 3DS and PSP. I brought most of these consoles, only to be able to play the KH games… No more!!!

    • Domii

These are worldwide sales bro. Which means those games you mentioned won’t top this list unless a miracle happens.

  • Domii

Those are some pretty sweet numbers Ninty. Although I’m surprise 3D land has sold more than MKart.

  • alastor3

wow almost half the people who have a 3DS have bought Super Mario 3D!!!

  • It just goes to show that despite what the naysayers say there is still a good market for dedicated handhelds. I’m sure Vita will pick up when time is given to it.

17 million units in only 1 year on the worldwide market is very good.

  • i bought ocarina 3d – and sold it shortly after because i was not playing it
i bought mario kart 7 – and sold it shortly after because i was not playing it
i bought mario 3d land – didn’t sell it so far but am not playing it
i am not using the 3ds very often anymore. i am generally hugely disappointed by the approach the developpers are taking to the hardware. they did not get the 3d at all. then i am disappointed by nintendo itself because all they are using the eshop for is selling us abandonware instead of retail games. why is completely beyond me. the only reason for that i can think of is arrogance and misjudging the market.

    • Pushmo and Mighty Switch Force are abandonware?  Didn’t like Kid Icarus?

    • That’s nice.

    • James Beatty

“and sold it shortly after because i was not playing it” Maybe you should have played it.
“i am disappointed by nintendo itself because all they are using the eshop for is selling us abandonware instead of retail games”
Retail games are coming to the 3DS e-shop, but that’s not the point of the service. Also, might switch force is getting a free update soon and pushmo pretty much has unlimited content.

    • Domii

      That’s cool.

    • raymk

Well maybe you should have played the games more.  I think its dumb on your part that you bought those games knowing what they are and didn’t play them.

      • Agreed. Dude, sell your 3DS if it’s this much a money pit for you. The rest of us enjoy these games, so it’s your loss.

  • Jirin

I’ve only played 3d Land and Mario Kart 7 so far.  Got through 3d Land, but don’t think I’ll be going back to it.  Mario Kart 7 is good.  The console is new, third party developers are going to switch over once more people buy it.

I don’t think handhelds are going to do as well stateside as past gen.  People in the US mostly used handhelds for long waits and plane rides and such, and used consoles for everyday playing.  Now those long waits and plane rides are being handled by smartphones.

Handhelds obviously have better games than smartphones, but they’re bigger and harder to carry, and smartphones are streamlined for boredom gaming.

Plus American kids have TVs in their bedrooms.

  • Remember when people said the 3DS was doomed?
