Sega West President To Leave Company This Summer

By Ishaan . April 30, 2012 . 3:30pm

Sega West president, Mike Hayes, is scheduled to leave the company this summer, according to a Gamasutra report. Hayes, who has been with Sega since 2004, spearheaded their acquisitions of Sports Interactive and The Creative Assembly. His post will be taken over by Jurgen Post, the Sega’s current COO.

This news comes just a month after Sega halved their forecast for the company’s ongoing fiscal year, and announced the cancellation of multiple projects as well as lay-offs at Sega’s U.S. and European divisions.

At the same time, Sega also announced their intent to focus on strong brands such as Sonic the Hedgehog, Aliens, Football Manager and Total War.

  • Iz dis da one who said no ta Valkyria Chroniclez 3?

    •  You’ll get an answer after you get rid of your horrendous grammar.

      • HeatPhoenix

I think he’s being satirical, as to imply that people in this thread will blame him for the non-existent localization of Valkyria Chronicles 3.

        •  Gotta blame someone until it comes to the USA or Europe. Right or Wrong.

      • z_merquise

Warboss Aohd is just imitating how Orcs of Warhammer universe speak.

    • MrRobbyM

Woah mayn I didnt no it wuz cewl to type lyk diz

Edit: Wow. I just got the joke.

      •  Dis is how a propa ork an’ his boyz speak!

    • Asura

I thought you were being satirical and laughed.

Then I read that you were just role playing (in a bloody comments section), and sighed exasperatedly. Hope you’re having a blast with that.

      • i’m gonna break character for a moment

        A. i am just amusing myself (i made the twitter because………honestly i forgot why, so i thought why not just have fun with it?)
        B. i was being genially serious when i asked though, although i just wanted a yes or no answer, and even if i got said answer, i probably wouldn’t do anything with the information other then what everyone else already was on Xseed and Atlus’s game suggestion forums.

  • Not a flattering photo of him.

    • MrRobbyM

He looks like he has an evil plan or something..

      • He looks like Vince McMahon from WWE

        • MrRobbyM

          Except eeeeeviiiiiiiil!

  • Solomon_Kano

I don’t really know what this means for Sega, but I hope whoever replaces him does something about their localizations. We get most of their stuff, but a few key titles slip by here and there.

    • Hraesvelgr

I dunno, “focusing on strong brands” doesn’t really give much hope of localization.

      • Solomon_Kano

True. I suppose in some bizarro world they could spin that to mean that they’ll also try to build brands out of existing franchises like VC, but that’s too much stretching there.

  • brian yep

    Shoulda kept localizing PSP stuff.

    • Hraesvelgr

While that would be nice from my point of view (and probably a number of others), I don’t see how localizing PSP games would’ve been more profitable for them, considering how it is widely regarded as one of the worst platforms to put games on (in terms of profitability).

      • PSN releases should be profitable, no ? That’s how Xseed share their YS love in Europe :)

    • Solomon_Kano

Yea, @Hraesvelgr:disqus right on that. Much as a number of fans would’ve enjoyed that, it wouldn’t have done Sega any favors. If anything, they may have ended up worse off for it.

  • Good riddance

That picture makes me think that he’s planning something malicious or something. The picture I’m presenting makes him look more trustworthy and nice….I think. (._.)

….Anyways, I don’t like or hate him (because I don’t even know the dude), but I still hope he finds a bright future from where he is heading. Besides, according to this:

It is said that he is apparently awesome and has actually done a lot of good in Sega, so……yeah. Good luck, I suppose. (._.’)

”Salutes” “May he find peace, dood. Ii is indeed saddening when a head of a company must leave his team behind. “

  • AuraGuyChris

Strong brands? No idea what the others one beside Sonic are.

    • brian yep

Aliens is (obviously) a licensed series based on the Alien/s movies.
Most recent was Aliens Infestation (iirc) on DS, Silliconera had a giveaway for it.
Total War is a strategy series, most recently known for Shogun 2.
Football (or Soccer) Manager is exactly that, a sports simulation game from a business standpoint with annual release similar to pretty much any sports game ala MLB and FIFA.

  • Belphybear

Surely reviving old brands would be better than focusing on their strong brands? Because this could mean more strong brands, right?
