Unchained Blades Let Loose This Spring

By Spencer . May 4, 2012 . 11:00am

Unchained Blades Let Loose This SpringIf you’re itching for a first person dungeon crawler and dig anime artwork check out Unchained Blades. Xseed picked up the title from Furyu and localized the scenario designed by Grandia creator Takashi Hino. Lunar leader Toshio Akashi is the game’s director and Shining series artist pako created Fang, the haughty protagonist in Unchained Blades.

Each lead character was drawn by a different artist. Toshiyuki Kubooka (Lunar series), Kumichi Yoshizuki (Someday’s Dreamers), Shinichiro Otsuka (Summon Night), Sunaho Tobe (Hexyz Force), and Kazushi Hagiwara (Bastard!!) contributed character designs.

Unchained Blades will have English voiceovers. Xseed will release Unchianed Blades as a digital download this spring for Nintendo 3DS and PlayStation Portable via the Nintendo eShop and PlayStation Network, respectively.

    Um, isn’t Spring almost over?

    • SirRichard

I guess it’ll be in the middle of May, maybe? Bit weird to be using “Spring 2012″ on the 4th of May, regardless.

      • Ryos

Spring can technically be as late as June 20.  Obviously I’m hoping a bit closer to tomorrow. :P

      That’s what I was thinking.

COME ON ! I rather import the game than pay full price for s digital only copy!!

Why? So you can play it in a language you don’t understand, simply so you can have the box? Sure, go for it.

      Go import it, then.

Can’t wait for this. Definitely getting the 3ds version just for the 3D and the bottom screen as the map (less on screen clutter)

The game looks really interesting so I’ll make sure to fetch it off PSN when it comes out. I haven’t been keeping up with news of this game though, has a price for it been announced yet~?

  • usagi_san

Yes, yes and one more for good measure… YES!!! Can’t wait to pick this up for the 3DS. I’ve been meaning to get into a dungeon crawler recently.

  • malek86

Uhm… not sure if I should just plunge for the PSN version, or wait for the european eShop version. The PSN one gets me immediate access, dithering and a bigger screen. The eShop one gets me waiting an indefinite amount of time, no dithering, and maybe some 3D.

I guess I might wait if Xseed says they have some plans to publish the game in the european store in the near future, otherwise I might just get the PSP one.

Fang looks like an older Toma http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20100731214245/shining/images/thumb/d/d6/SFexaToma_hero.jpg/360px-SFexaToma_hero.jpg

Which, upon reading the article, makes perfect sense.

  • Julien_N

I was also wondering whether the game would be released for the EU eShop…Had XSEED already published anything here in digital format? Or maybe RSG could pick the game for a retail release, but I am dreaming…

    • malek86

We do have some Xseed games on PSN here, courtesy of Ghostlight.

      • Ladius

Trails in the Sky was brought over by Ghostlight, and other XSeed games have been published by RSG in Europe, but XSeed has also published some games on the EU PSN directly, like the Ys games or Corpse Party.

I think they went on record to say that their current process for European release is 1) Try to find a local partner 2) If there isn’t timeno one is interestedother reasons just publish it yourself. NISA is doing the same, considering all their recent PSP games have followed the same pattern. It would be wonderful if Aksys and Atlus USA started doing the same.

    • SirRichard

On the eShop? No, but then not many people have bothered with the eShop outside Nintendo themselves.

On the PSN, XSEED have been surprisingly active on the European side of things, even getting Corpse Party to us within a few weeks of the US release and for a fairly reasonable price of £12 to boot. They also got all the Ys games they’ve handled to us as well, which was very nice of them, and were better about the pricing than others I could name (‘sup, NISA).

Looks pretty cool not a fan of first person anything but ill give it a go

    Dont know if want :-/

Love some of the art but the game mechanics look almost as dated as Dragon Quest 1.  Maybe its just that I dont like Dungeon Crawlers that much, and also dislike the fact that its First Person.

Depending on price though I may still jump in, if only to support XSEED so that they can finish the Trails in the Sky series.

Yeah, its not worth getting unless you’re a huge fan of dungeon crawlers.

  • TenRX

I played when it came a year ago, not so attractive for an dungeon crawler rpg.

  • SetzerGabbiani

This looks like it will tide me over until EO IV is announced for localization.
