Tecmo Koei To Focus On More Collaborations With Other Developers

By Ishaan . May 8, 2012 . 9:00am

Tecmo Koei released their earnings report for the fiscal year ended March 31st, 2012 this week. The company reported a strong performance for the year with revenues of 35.5 billion yen ($443.8 million) and a profit of 4.6 billion yen ($57.5 million), up nearly 70% from the previous year.

Tecmo Koei also provided figures for one of their key titles—Ninja Gaiden 3, which has shipped 630,000 copies worldwide. Meanwhile Samurai Warriors 3: Empires, Warriors Orochi 3, and Winning Post 7 2011 all performed strongly in Japan. Tecmo also mention that sales of Dynasty Warriors Next for the Vita were strong in Asia.

Moving forward, Tecmo Koei’s plan is to collaborate with other developers. They mention Pokémon Conquest (Nintendo) and One Piece: Pirate Warriors (Namco Bandai) as existing examples of such collaborations.

Give the world a Samurai Warriors X Pokemon game. That has epic potential both gameplay and sales wise like One Piece: Pirate Musou.

    • Ladius

Apparently that was the initial idea behind Pokémon vs Nobunaga’s Ambitions, but Pokémon Company favored an hybridation with a tactical series over one with an hack&slash one (and I think they did the right thing, even if I would like to see the other concept realized, too :P).

  • Spirit Macardi

I say keep up the kick of making Warriors/Musou games based on anime and manga licenses. Here’s some that I’d love to see:

    Keroro Musou
    Jojo’s Bizarre Musou
    Digimon Xros Musou
    Tenchi Musou

  • Ladius

As much as I love the Pokémon x Nobunaga crossover and the Musou collaborations, I hope they continue to make the DWSWOrochi we love them for. I’m a bit worried to see how they failed to localize Samurai Warriors 3 Empires (that one still burns… I wanted it so much :( ) and how they couldn’t justify an English dub for Orochi 3, as massive as that game is.

    *See the main picture*….
*Look the past article and hype about NG3….*
    What a waste….-_-
anyway i’m happy that onepiece sailing to NA :D

Ninja Gaiden 3 did well? I’m surprised. Although I guess it depends on how much they were expecting from it. Shipping 630.000 across both platforms in the first month is not bad, but NG2 shipped a million on 360 alone in two months. And this game will also have word of mouth hurting it.

    • rowsdower

      630,000 shipped, not sold.

They only sold 210,000 between both platforms. Ninja Gaiden 2 sold 1 million on platform in the same time frame for comparison. That says alot when a company chooses to say how many they shipped, not sold.

      • malek86

I wouldn’t trust VGC numbers too much. Anyway, companies always talk about shipments and not sales. After all, it would be more difficult for them to track the actual sales from stores. The NG2 number is also probably shipment data, although I imagine most of those had to have been sold.

Beelzebub Delinquent Warriors , alot of people want this :P
and a Warriors game I wanted to see for a long time Genso Suikoden Warriors :p

    • SetzerGabbiani

Beelzebub would translate well, I think.  Lots of characters to choose from too.

      • Klaus00

Exactly. it could have much potential

       Suikoden Warriorz?

Me an’ da boyz do want!

  • http://wiredjungle.wordpress.com/ DrakosAmatras

Come on, Koei. Kamen Rider Musou – bring it on!

    • Mr_SP

…Yeah, I could live with that.

But I don’t really believe that we’d see it overseas.

      • http://wiredjungle.wordpress.com/ DrakosAmatras

Assuming that it would actually happen, I wouldn’t be very worried; Bandai usually releases their Tokusatsu games entirely in Kana, since they’re released for young children. Of course, not to say Koei wouldn’t take liberties with that if they’re going for a general audience.

That’s neat, but would that affect official decisions in any way? I know Koeiwarriors is a very active community, but I’m not that into the community to know.

Fire Emblem musou?  I mean the classes could fit in.  Mounted classes probably made more flexible, just have them more advantageous with a horse than on foot.  I wonder what they could do with flight mounted classes could be interesting to adapt…

Disgaea could be amusing, if they want to make something over the top.

Anime-wise, probably Fullmetal Alchemist.  I loved those hack and slash PS2 games and I’d play another like it.

  • LynxAmali

Give me a SRW Musou and you can have access to my bank account.

    I wouldn’t give a damn about if it’s a button masher.

I’d be enjoying Jet Magnum’ing, Staking, T-Link Knuckling and HTB Cannoning mooks all day every day.

At the very, very least, they’re very, very good with character design shown beautifully in games like Fatal Frame… and… embarrassingly with jiggle physics in games like Dead or Alive.

At the very least, I’m super fond of their work with the Fatal Frame series. Of which are among the best Survival Horror games ever produced in my book. With good gameplay, well designed old Japanese houses that feel so very real it’s like they come to life.. or death rather. And interestingly designed characters that I think are some of the best out of all CG designs ever(after playing the Project Zero or “Fatal Frame” games, I had kind of wished that many other companies would outsource their character design teams to Tecmo). .. They would be an asset to any company that employed their work or that they teamed up with.

I hope to see the very best out of this. One that can put their skills most to use. I don’t care who they collaborate with, as long as their strengths are fully taken advantage of and contributing to the project, to make a solid game.
