Gungnir Listed On German Ratings Board

The USK (or Unterhaltungssoftware Selbstkontrolle if you prefer), Germany’s ratings board for videogames, has put up a listing for Sting’s Gungnir on PSP, with Index Digital Media—Atlus’ parent company—listed as the game’s publisher:

Gungnir will be released in North America on June 12th. The game hasn’t been officially announced for European release yet. If it does make it over, it should be interesting to see whether it’s released as a retail title or as a download-only game.

Atlus doesn’t actually have an european publishing branch, right? I imagine this is a digital version.

Don’t start toying with us, Index, please actually move on this!

Well, the PSP is doing better in Europe, so there is a chance that it will see a retail release.

What I’m curious about is the fact that this game was rated specifically by the USK. It makes me wonder if this is intended to be a German-only release (then again, if that was the case, they probably would have translated the game into German) or if we will see a similar listing with PEGI.

What I’m even MORE curious about is, if this game does get released, who exactly is going to publish it? Atlus doesn’t have a division in Europe, yet this was registered by Atlus’ parent company. Do they own any publisher in Europe?

American publishers are able to publish games in Europe as long as they are digital, apparently. Atlus USA already released Persona 1 on PSN, and XSeed and NISA did the same with many PSP games (the Ys ones and ZHP, for instance).

    Ghostlight…….i am waiting for u here.^^

If Index Digital Media is the publisher, then either Europe is getting a European branch of Atlus, or this is digital. And since we’ve heard nothing of the former, it’s probably the latter.

If I remember correctly Hexyz Force was listed on some PAL censorship board at one time (I don’t remember if it was PEGI, USK or the Australian one), and that game never made it to Europe… That said, it would be great to have more of Atlus USA’s games self-published directly on the European PSN, like they did with Persona 1. Europe missed out on a ton of their games this gen.

I wonder if Ghostlight would be interested to publish Growlanser WoT on UMD, or at least if Atlus USA could port it to Europe alongside Gungnir via PSN.

  • I hope it’s digital so I can play it on my Vita. Take my money Atlus! ;)
