Gravity Rush Demo Soars To North America This Week

By Ishaan . May 28, 2012 . 11:30am

This week, Sony will release a demo for Gravity Rush on the PlayStation Vita in North America. The game, directed by Silent Hill and Siren creator, Keiichiro Toyama, was inspired by open world games such as Crackdown. North America gets the demo tomorrow (the 29th), while Europe is supposed to see it on the 30th.

Pre-ordering Gravity Rush in North America from GameStop or Amazon will net you one of the four DLC packs that Sony have released for Gravity Rush in Japan—the one with Kat’s military outfit. If the pack is the same as its Japanese counterpart, you’ll also get two challenge races, and two other missions. Read about those here.

The full game, which is scheduled for release on June 12th in North America, will be available as a retail title in both the U.S. and Europe, contrary to previous plans to only release the title as a download in PAL regions.

So there are people that actually DO own a Vita?

It’s a great handheld I just didn’t think anybody had one

      • http://www.cubiz.x10.mx/ Auragar

lol Wow really? xD I own one and I like it a lot.

      • Quinton Cunningham

I just bought one today with Disgaea and paid off Gravity Rush. Other than those two and Persona, there’s not many games that I feel like I HAVE to have. However, I’ll be buying the Persona games and Fate/Extra AGAIN (I wish we got UMD passport, but I am happy to support Atlus and Aksys) so i can play them on my shiny new Vita soon.

I also bought it with Disgaea :) , and im waiting for this game as well :P

Yeah, tons of people have it. Haven’t you seen the sales figures?(Not saying they’re good or anything, just shows how many people have one.)

      • mirumu

I know what you mean. The world so far seems to be ignoring the Vita, but it’s a great handheld. I’ve owned a good 7-8 different handhelds over the years starting with the original Gameboy, but the Vita has already become my favorite.

      • Solomon_Kano

Got mine day one. Lovely system. Needs more software, but it’s great.

        • Testsubject909

          Day 1 or Day -7?

Because there’s a slight difference between the two. I for one got it Day -7.

A great option for students who left their home for uni(without having to carry a console and a flat screen tv) and people who rides trains to work…

  • http://twitter.com/harmony102 Harmony Zantt

I gotta get me a vita!!

    • AzureNova

I’m waiting for the white one myself =)

      • Testsubject909

I think my black one became white because of all my excitement of having Kat in it…

  • Nyandroid

I get to play around with the demo before it comes out!? AWESOME!!
Honestly I don’t know why it wasn’t already out. I was extremely disappointed, when I bought my vita, that I couldn’t download the demo that you could play on the vita at Ebgames.

  • FitzpatrickPhillips

I hope its a different demo at least. Most people Already played it. And I’ve had the JP demo in my Vita since launch.

    • mirumu

Given the demo was restricted to those with a Vita using Japanese PSN accounts I suspect most haven’t actually played it. Sure, they could format and reset to change PSN accounts, but that’s a lot of hassle to go through for a demo. The idea of having to spend an hour or more copying games and saves back afterwards put me off for one.

      • FitzpatrickPhillips

You don’t have to spend hours recopying anything. You can switch back and forth within a minute or two. When it asks to format your card, simply say no and you’ll retain everything. Ontop of that, Gravity Daze already had an english demo ready – it was at Gamestop for months.

        • mirumu

Really? That’s different to what Sony said. Good to know.

    • Solomon_Kano

Same. It’ll likely be the kiosk demo though, so… probably not new.

  • Herok ♞

    only 2 more weeks!!!

  • Guest

    Oh!

    *Dusts off Vita*

It is time for you to finally shine! X3

    • Testsubject909

I was almost expecting you to be unboxing a new one…

  • Zonic505

FINALLY! I’ve waited so long for this demo to hit PSN, considering the ones you could play at stores had it. Can’t wait to play this while I wait to pick up my copy.

  • Alexander FromUkraine

Played japanese demo numerous times, then the one from Hong Kong’s store, which was in english. 15th June can’t come soon enough! Also, I really liked the voice of Kat – french with japanese accent if I’m not mistaken. Awesome stuff, hope they will keep it or at least give it as an optional voice over.

First Vita game I’m actually buying, then it’s back to the waiting game.

Dear lord I just made some sort of high-pitched sound I don’t think humans should be capable of making. o_o; Right now my Vita is basically a glorified PSP so I desperately need more, you know, VITA games.

    • Testsubject909

Oh, so that was the loud high pitched whining sort of screeching noise I could barely hear. Boy that traveled far.

  • Solomon_Kano

Had I not already downloaded the Japanese demo, I’d be all over this. Ah well. Hope all who haven’t gotten to play it yet enjoy it!

I really can’t wait to get the game. It’ll be the second actual Vita game I’ll have bought (lots of PSP games on my Vita).

    • Testsubject909

I want to know if her voice is still French! So the only way is to get the demo.

      • Solomon_Kano

I forgot about that! Yes, we need to know. Get the demo!

      • RablaAndrews

        IT IS STILL IN FRENCH!

        • Testsubject909

A very butchered french that I can barely figure out with only half of it sounding like french while the other half sounds like gibberish.

          But yeah.

  • Barrylocke89

Wait, do we know if this demo is different from the one that some of the stores had on their kiosk Vitas? Because the first time I ever saw Gravity Rush was when I tried out a demo at Best Buy.

  • rurin

    need a vita x.x

  • http://amc9988.deviantart.com/ amc99

I want to get vita and this too, but that means I’m going to use quite a lot of my savings… hmmm

  • Testsubject909

*grabs Vita, backs up everything, deletes everything to make as much space in his 4GB memory card*

    Kat… You will be mine!

  • http://twitter.com/RyougaSaotome Elliot Gay

It’s my current game of the year. Go buy it people.

  • RablaAndrews

Well if its the same as the Japanese demo, i’ll give it a pass since it’s incredibly short. It’s nice to mess around with the mechanics though.

    • http://www.cubiz.x10.mx/ Auragar

I don’t know if it is the same as the JPN demo but it is indeed SHORT. :/ I want the full game (more) now, though.

      • RablaAndrews

Just tried it out and it indeed is the same demo.

        • http://www.cubiz.x10.mx/ Auragar

          Alright then question answered. lol

  • Julien_N

I tried the demo in a store near the place where I work, and the concept of manipulating gravity in an action game is really neat. The visual style is also welcome, but the hardware itself griped me a bit. The Vita’s sticks are very small, making aiming a chore at the beginning, and their position is somewhat awkward (just like with the PSP I guess). Some of the buttons (Start and Select for instance) are also too hard to properly press given their tiny size.

Not sure it’ll be a killer app, but a very promising game at the very least.

  • artemisthemp

Gonna download this Demo to see, how different it are from the HK version (English)

  • Go2hell66

There’s been an english demo of Gravity Rush on the Hong Kong PSN since Feb just in case people didn’t know…

    • http://www.cubiz.x10.mx/ Auragar

Yah… the whole one account per system thing kinda prevents that… :/

  • http://www.cubiz.x10.mx/ Auragar

Is the demo out yet? I checked at 2 and there was nothing… :/

Post demo reaction. The game is amazing. But the demo is SHORT as crap. People will be pleased that the voice acting (the little there seems to be) is in Japanese still, with subtitles. All I can say now is… bring on the full game! I am even more anxious for it now.

    • 4TK

they are speaking french in the game not japanese.

      • http://www.cubiz.x10.mx/ Auragar

Sounds like Japanese to me. :/

  • Spider-Man

Just finished playing the demo, holy Christ that was amazing. The way Kat reacts to the environment, the smooth controls, details to little things, fucking amazing. Pre-order placed.

  • AzureNova

Gravity Rush is awesome, hands down. =^_^=

I completely forgot about this game and wondered why people kept talking about it. I think I first read about it back in late 2010 and was disappointed to find out it wouldn’t be coming out until the Vita launched. It’s a very interesting and stylized game that’s different from what Toyama has worked on before, and I’m surprised he said he was inspired by open-world games like Crackdown since I don’t recall seeing that in the last article I read about it which detailed the game itself.
