This will be a day one purchase. Oh god my wallet just passed out.

  • Amazing!!!
Wish the release date is 25 March though, but the trailer is super amazing. So much blast and stuff.

  • landlock

    Uncharted + Cabela’s Survival = Tomb Raider.

    Looks interesting though.

  • Farid Belkacemi

    Looking great, I’m IN ;)

This looks really flashy, but feels like they’ve turned it into a different game. Tomb Raider always had action and guns, and it certainly became more about that as the series progressed, but in the original game on PS1 at least that was a fairly minor aspect of the game. Instead you were more likely to spend hours quietly clambering around in what for the time felt like immense tombs untouched for millennia. The pace of the game was actually quite slow. It wasn’t Uncharted, and it wasn’t a personal story.

It seems odd too to see Lara portrayed in such a fragile way and at the mercy of others. If it wasn’t for the high production values I’d say the trailer at least almost has the feel of a 70’s exploitation flick.

    • I was getting a whole Uncharted vibe from it all.

    • Rohan Viajar

I think you’re missing the main point of the game.
rather the game is a retelling. it is “how” she became what she was in the later games.

so it doesn’t strike odd at all to see a weak person grow into a strong person.

      • puchinri

While it’s cool to see a weak person grow into a strong person, I don’t understand why Lara had to ever be weak at all. I’d kind of like and prefer it more if she was always just Lara. Just that she had to grow into her actual adventuring more. (Thus, maybe less guns, etc.)

        • Rohan Viajar

I guess you could be right.
but I would think that this makes it feel more realistic.

and I think being weaker just helps the audience identify/connect with her more. just like in the movies. (no not tomb raider movies. I mean movies in general. you know tropes and all that.)

I personally can’t wait to play this game. (it might be bad or it might be good. but for now I’m on the “in favor of” side.)

          • puchinri

I’m not sure if I would consider it more realistic either, but I can see it is to some degree.

I kind of like to have a strong character in origin anyway, to identify with and as a role model.

The first trailer looked like a lot of fun, but I can’t entirely feel the same after this trailer.

      • mirumu

That’s definitely what they’re going for if the trailer is to be believed, but it still doesn’t really fit. Realistically someone would be quite traumatized if something like this happened to them, whereas Lara always appeared to be well centered and exuded a confidence you could only be born with. For my taste at least this is too big a change, and speaking personally the gunplay was never what I liked about Tomb Raider.

    • puchinri

This. I am just not feeling it. The game looks pretty, and it somewhat looks cool, but it just doesn’t feel like Tomb Raider or Lara Croft to me. And I like watching characters’ origins and stuff and how they developed, but sometimes, a character is never really that weak. It’s okay to keep them similar to what we see, but just give them a reason to do stuff. There is no need to change their personality (especially such a perfectly fun one).

  • frokenok3

This is Day -1 purchase. xD Looks awesome! Can’t wait.

  • Jezzy

The irony of a TR game trying to replicate Uncharted…

    • Same thing came to my mind. It really feels lame because of that, it’s like tomb raider lost all it’s uniqueness because of this. It’s just Nathan Drake with boobs now…

      • Rohan Viajar

umm.. I’m pretty sure when Uncharted first came out
people were saying that Nathan Drake was Lara Croft without the boobs.

        • malek86

But when Tomb Raider first came out, people were saying Lara was Indiana Jones with boobs.

          There’s no escaping the circle.

          • Rohan Viajar

        • mirumu

Yes, because by the time Uncharted came out Tomb Raider had already turned into a fairly dull action franchise with lots of poor gunplay and wasn’t selling well. It didn’t have much in common with the first few Tomb Raider games. Early on Uncharted looked like it was doing the same thing, hence the Lara without boobs comments, but instead Uncharted took that action-oriented formula and simply did it vastly better.

I think Lajcik’s comment is appropriate because rather than going back to it’s roots, Tomb Raider now looks to be drawing inspiration from Uncharted.

    • noctis_nox

      Replicating or not.

I like it. The change of direction is sooo welcome. ^^

    • AzureNova

This will be better than Uncharted by far.

  • Christian Wright

  • malek86

I wonder how long one can actually survive without medical trreatment after getting stabbed like that. Especially, how well one can run, move swiftly and hang on ledges.

But then, I see Nathan Drake flinging himself around ledges above him with only his arms, and I guess all videogame heroes either have superhuman strength or descend directly from Spiderman.

  • LustEnvy

I don’t have any money, so I’m throwing an arm and a leg at the screen, but nothing’s happening!

Seriously though, amazing. I can’t wait.

  • Day one buy for me too.

Big/long time fan of Miss Croft here, and I actually like this new rendition of her characater. Fragile but tough at the same time. Love it!

  • noctis_nox

    I am H.Y.P.E.D!!!!

  • XYZ_JolteonZ980

Western game of the year 2013 confirmed! That was as intense and epic as Uncharted 2. Lara forever.

  • SirRichard

These trailers have an unnerving obsession with beating the crap out of Lara, don’t they?

It looks like it’ll be good, but already I’m deciding to play as carefully as possible, unless a single step in the wrong direction throws her off a cliff into two different spikes and a raging river.

  • zephyrsword

I still miss macho Lara. I probably won’t be picking it up, but I’ll be watching it’s progress. For now, I’m going to run with Uncharted. Now that is what Tomb Raider should have become.

    • You mean that’s what Tomb Raider already has been.

  • ivanchu77

Well… the Ryona fans will be very satisfied with this game, poor Lara

I hope the game is a success, I enjoyed this franchise a lot in the Playstation 1 years and it would be nice to see it regaining the popularity it had back then

    So far looks really good.

  • AzureNova

My eyes just exploded from all the awesome!

  • I wish people would stop using Uncharted as a grade of scale to the new Tomb Raider. Who do you thing laid ground for Uncharted to be what it is? Still looking forward to this game though, I could care less about the comparisons until I actually get my hands on it.

    • AzureNova

I agree, and just for the record, I didn’t like Uncharted. Lolz, I can see all the hate now……. =P

    • malek86

I never really liked UC, so I would hope the gameplay here is different. The trailer does remind me of it, but I guess there will be enough to differentiate the two. Eidos has done some good stuff with Squenix, so I’m hopeful.

    •  @malek86:disqus @AzureNova:disqus Uncharted is alright, but I feel it’s abit overdramatic given its premise, and you can only do so much with finding stuff that people really never discovered, ooooo!  Same case with Tomb Raider, but there were more actual locations you were going to along with stopping people from creating havoc…while stealing priceless relics and exploring.

  • MrRobbyM

    “I hate tombs”

That trailer just made me feel sorry for her. Didn’t really make me want the game all that much.

  • Anime10121

That looked AMAZING!  Didnt care much for the previous Crystal Dynamic Tomb Raiders, but this, this daddy likes :P

  • tomb raider ready to take back here throne from uncharted ey? hmzz

  • takopako

Omg, this looks so good!!! This will be the only Tomb Raider that i have been EXCITED for!!!

  • badmoogle

Finally Uncharted is coming to 360…

  • I can’t stop but thinking of this question:

Will she be able to do Head Dives ? Yes, I know I’m horrible.

  • eilegz

wow looks like uncharted, not bad at all

  • Jake Caro

    This looks awesome.

  • RupanIII

Her accent is kinda confusing me, like it can’t decide if it wants to be American, British or Australian.

After the first 2 games I kinda lost track of the series. This looks way different from the slower exploration that I liked in the earliest games. Seems like everything’s losing slower/calculating play in favor of action/explosions : Having said that though, this trailer does look cool.

  • amagidyne

Could be interesting. Even though there was gameplay footage in there, I feel like I still don’t know what the game is going to be like. What in there is QTE and what is actual combat?

They are very clearly being inspired by Uncharted too. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, and Tomb Raider itself influenced a great deal of modern platformers, but it would be silly to argue that this game was made in a vacuum or was a pure evolution of the old games (which were made by a different developer anyway).

I hope this doesn’t end up being ‘Lara Croft as written by Motomu Toriyama’, and that the violence and suffering is as harsh as it is because the story demands it, instead of being there because it gets the writers off.

  • Clifford Michael

It’s kind of making me uncomfortable how much pain she’s going through.

  • I am so excited for this game. Probably my most anticipated game right now. I really hope it turns out well as this could be a great new direction for the franchise.

  • This is bringing Lara back in such grand style. But, Gods, it’s disheartening to see her through so much pain o____o

When she falls from the rope upon that iron spike at the beginning of the trailer, you can almost feel it together with her! Although this might get interesting, it is a way to connect the player with the character, seeing a lot of us already have some kind of emotional tie with Lara from the past games.

I’m sooo waiting for this reboot. Gonna be a Day One purchase.

  • Ah, I can see Nathan Drake’s passed his bad luck off to Lara.

  • XiaomuArisu

That poor girl isnt that a little extrem?Hope there will be some Happier scenes or that game will be depressing.

  • SLick123456789111

Nathan , meet your mother Lara.

  • puchinri

I kind of liked the first trailer, but this one just feels like torture porn without the porn. Except she gets molested at one point obviously. . . well, I’d feel bad playing the game. It looks a bit fun, but it just looks so violent and Rob Zombie (as my boyfriend puts it).

  • What is this, Dead Island feat. Lara Croft?

  • Göran Isacson

Have to admit, this was one spoiler-filled trailer. I wonder if anyone but Lara will escape the island alive, and how much of this game will be about exploring and how much it will be about pressing the right button to see the next dramatically directed cut-scene.

Yes I’m being a negative Nancy perhaps but I am not really feeling this trailer. The atmosphere looks VERY dramatic and tense (I’ll withhold accusations of wannabe torture-porn until I see the game itself), so it could be an exciting ride… as long as I actually get to PLAY the game. Not just “press X to kneel sleazebag in the groin”.
