Final Fantasy XIV Version 2.0 Screenshots Look Gorgeous

By Ishaan . June 5, 2012 . 4:20pm

As reported recently, Square Enix decided against bringing a trailer for Final Fantasy XIV’s upcoming version 2.0 update to E3. That said, they did bring screenshots of the game, showing character customization and the new UI. Take a look at the screens and concept art below:

It’s….it’s like a whole new game.

  • badmoogle

This game always looked extremely gorgeous to me,its problems lied elsewhere.I was very disappointed that SE decided to not show a trailer on E3 but i’m glad that it’s getting better.Hopefully the PS3 version is not far away too.

You hit the nail on the head – the initial release of FFXIV was a very good looking game in its own right, pretty much the one widely praised aspect of the game.  The problems were mostly due to horrendous game design decisions, not looks.

That being said, Yoshi-P (the current director) does seem like he knows what he’s doing.  I’m still doubtful FFXIV can be salvaged after the utter train wreck of a launch, but the current dev team is sure doing their best to try.

  • MrRobbyM

    I could get into this.

  • I wanted to try this but no computer in my house can play mmo’s to well~
    Hopefully they’ll have a demo for the ps3 version~

  • AzureNova

O_O! Wow, this does look beautiful. If its going to be as good as they say it is, I might just play it again =^_^=

  • Anime10121

Why yes Ishaan, yes they do look gorgeous.  This game makes me wish all the more that I had the time and money to invest in MMOs.  People who have played FFXI have said that game had a masterpiece of a story and I hate that I couldnt partake in it.  This game looks more and more smexy every time I see 2.0 stuff and it makes me sad that I’m gonna miss out.

    • Rhayve

Yes, FFXI was a masterpiece. Gameplay-wise as well as story-wise. But you had to endure a lot of grind and very uncomfortable requirements to enjoy the storyline. I already mentioned this in the Comments section of the FFVII and FFXI Retrospective article that I’m currently working on a webcomic that will hopefully cover all major storylines of FFXI.
I’m making it precisely because many people could not enjoy FFXI’s storyline due to it being a MMO (and some might want to read it again).

  • The updates do look gorgeous. I may start playing this when the release of 2.0 happens, or maybe I should now?

I have never played FFXIV, let alone an MMO before, so I am always a bit scared of trying out a new MMO.

From the viewpoint of a non-player, the game interests me so much. The music seems great, and I love the style. I am glad that Square Enix stuck with it and continued development instead of just throwing in the towel.

    • Draparde

The game is much better, but even having played the game since beta, these screenshot make the wait until 2.0 harder…so…if your iffy on trying it out i’d just wait until 2.0

      • Thank you, that is what I was thinking I would do!

  • eilegz

looks amazing, hoping for news about the ps3 version

    • I have GTX 580/i7X/SSD/12GB-3ghz and can’t run the game on max settings, if they ever released it on PS3 the graphics would be seriously tuned down.

      • Draparde

well, its said this new graphics engine is optimized for lower end computers to be able to play it.

the ps3 version is supposed to be released around the start of 2013, so lets hope it doesn’t take *that* big of a graphics hit.

      • eilegz

sigh its sad :( that just remind me of how PSO2 on pc vs vita =/

  • The quests/classes and their level system was the big turn off for me also the bazaar/auction house, not the graphics.

  • Draparde

man. this makes me wish i could log into 2.0 right now X_x. i can’t wait lol

  • scratchbach

Look incredible, absolutely cannot wait for 2.0.
I’ve had FFXIV for a while, and could never really get into it during the free period. Hoping to give it another go during the summer to experience the story content before they take it away. I just recently bought the 3-month subscription so that I could be a Legacy member, since you get a huge discount on subscription fees for the rest of the game’s lifetime ($15 to 10$ monthly). I don’t know if I’ll actually like 2.0, but I think it looks really good, and on the chance I get hooked, $30 is a small price to pay now for savings on a subscription in the future.Plus, you get a really cool exclusive Chocobo. <3

  • THIS is the FFXIV I was looking forward to.

  • Beautiful Daisy ♥

Absolutely gorgeous~ that’s the perfect word to describe this ^_^ The graphics do not fail to impress~ makes me wish I could get into MMORPG’s. Here’s to hoping this infamous 14th installment continues to evolve and improve. Also, that artwork is B-E-A-Utiful XD lol

    • badmoogle

Well for those who can’t get into MMORPGs one can only hope the next SinglePlayer main FF to have the same art style and setting as FFXIV.I’m a bit tired with the high tech look personally…

      • komiko12

Variety among the FFs is good :D
As long as the recurring elements are there (crystal theme, prelude, chocobos and moogles), then they could do any setting or plot for the next game.

        • Oh gosh, nothing against it, but the next FF needs it’s EXP & levels system back. XD I’m tired of the grids.

  • The PS3 version can’t come soon enough. I signed up for the PS3 beta a long time ago so *fingers crossed*.

  • KyoyaHibari

  • Yesfir

    The game certainly looks nice.

  • Alexander Aubert

come on go to PS3 as soon as you can

    • Setsu Oh

  • Nyandroid

Beautiful! Beautiful! Beautiful! Delivery moogle is adorable! And female Cait Sith is back once again!? Perfect! Now bring me my PS3 version so I can create my Miqo’te! =^^=~

    • komiko12

Cat lady wants cat characters eh?

      • Nyandroid

        You’ve caught me. =^^=~
But to be fair, I’m also really looking forward to seeing Leviathan. XD
…and no. Not because I like eating seafood or anything cat-related. O.o

  • still waiting on the PS3 version

  • DanteJones

You know, I really do hope this does extremely well when it comes out. While FFXI had its share of problems, I did still find it fun to play. With any luck FFXIV 2.0 will make the game much more appealing than it was in beta.

  • 肉@バカ夜空

At least the UI doesn’t look too medieval. But it looks like it was pulled out right out of SWTOR, but more shiny.

Also, if 2.0 is built on the Luminous engine, it is possible that they can use it for current gen consoles as well. QD can already make beautiful games on the PS3, hy can’t Squeenix?

  • Meow~ Male miqo’te. <

Oh~ And I can't wait for the rest of the genders to be unlocked (just two more after the male miqo'te!). Can't wait to see what their screenshots would look like~ <3

  • Wiccan1109

Although visuals weren’t where they needed improvement, WOW. Scanning all the screens though, they have remedied problems that plagued me. The first being the nice, neat speech bubble from the NPC and not a chat box spam. I would read the new text in 2.0, as the game stands now, i can’t bear to.

Also, though not confirmed or anything, it looks like we’re going from 8 man groups to 6? Which i would LOVE, because as they are now with class stacking and such, its just a mess and leaves very little class/role individuality. It looks like the 4 man groups have 2 empty player slots, with UI room left over for perhaps 2 pets? Keeping my fingers crossed.

Very nice atmosphere from the images, very clean, simple UI. I want them to succeed with this, i really do.

  • Not too big on MMOs but even I am impress by the screenshots for the new version of this game, and they have been working on it for quite some time now to remedy a lot of the problems that plagued the first version of FF14.

  • Setsu Oh

if only it was free to play!

    • Learii

      ya i agree

  • CirnoLakes

That picture… did they… just redesign Gridania?

I may have to learn my way around all over again.

  • Oni123

    Yay! Fenrir! *hug*
