Pikmin 3 Announced For Wii U, Has Multiple Control Schemes

By Ishaan . June 5, 2012 . 9:10am

At Nintendo’s E3 media briefing this morning, Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto announced Pikmin 3 for the Wii U. In Pikmin 3, one new feature is that Pikmin can find materials to build bridges. A new type of Rock Pikmin can also be used to break hard objects.

The basic controls for Pikmin 3 will use the Wii Remote Plus and Nunchuk. Meanwhile, the Wii U GamePad will display a map. You’ll be able to use the map to scroll around and place your Pikmin strategically.

You’ll also be able to control the game using just the Wii U GamePad if you so choose. Using the Wii U GamePad will allow you to control four leaders at once, but Captain Olimar won’t be one of them. Miyamoto says the reason for this is a secret.

I’m going to make the assumption that 2 of the captains are Olimar’s kids.
    Just throwing that out there.

And I love some of the new enemies I’m assuming are bosses.

    • Either that or there’s going to be a storyline where Olimar went missing on a mission and now in the future his children have arrived on the planet to figure out what happened to him.

Louie also disappeared but nobody cared.

If it’s a launch title, I’m basically sold. Like, no two ways about it.

  • I am very, very excited for this. Decent strategy games are becoming very hard to find nowadays and for that reason, the return of Pikmin is one I am very happy about. The control schemes sound awesome and I cannot wait to see the game in action. Hopefully it launches around the start of the Wii U’s life, that would be even more amazing.

    • Or you know AT the start of Wii U’s life… in other words LAUNCH title. :/
