Pikmin 3 Trailer For Wii U Shows New Features

By Ishaan . June 5, 2012 . 11:08am

This morning, Nintendo showed off Pikmin 3 for the Wii U at their E3 media briefing. One of the game’s new features is rock Pikmin, who can destroy things. Pikmin can also gather items to build bridges now. Take a look at a trailer for the game below:

You’ll be able to play Pikmin 3 using either the Wii Remote and Nunchuck with the Wii U GamePad as a secondary map device, or with the Wii U GamePad entirely.

  • Daaaaaah. So cute. It’s been awhile, Pikmin. I probably won’t ever get a WiiU, but if I do – Pikmin 3 would probably be the main reason. I see there’s some co-op now, so that’s pretty neat. I knew it’d get there eventually, considering you could switch around with Louie in the last game.

  • I honestly kind of hope there are more Pikmin types.

    • Jungo

      There’s the new rock type pikmin announced at some point in the conference.

      • I meant other than that one.

    • Alexandre Poulin

      Look at the end of the trailer.

      • I’m glad someone else thinks that flying creature is a pikmin type- it has a leaf stem, after all.

    Love the Pikmin series, Pikmin 2 being one of my top 3 games on the GameCube >A<;; But I have to admit after waiting so long, it feels just a little bitter sweet. The game doesn't have to be revolutionary, because seriously Pikmin 2 in itself was practically perfect in my books, but something about it just struck me as underwhelming T3T I'm still pleased it's finally happening, but suffering mixed feelings.

      If the trailer itself felt underwhelming, it may be because the game will see release this year (I believe?), so they may be saving some of the more exciting footage and news for later~.

        Yep, to be fair, no trailer can do justice to Pikmin 2 either owo; They are good games because they capture the essence of exploration, which is often hard to convey in short videos o3o;

        Also responding to comment above, chances are we’ll see more Pikmin revealed down the road owo; Although honestly I think too many types could easily bog the game down. Also I can’t help but feel like Purple should accomplish everything Rock Pikmin do opo…

        • puchinri

          Hahah, that’s probably true. I’m still finishing the first myself but eager to start the second, and I do kind of get that feeling. And that’s a very good point~.

          Yeah, I actually like the set of Pikmin from before, and while the rock Pikmin are cute, I do think purple covers that already. But maybe they both play to a different type of strength.

  • puchinri

    They should add three types of Pikmin since this is the third game. C’:
    No? Okay. ;u;

    I’m really excited for this. It looks terribly fun and devastatingly cute. I like the designs and stuff of some of the creatures too. I can’t wait to see more of it thorough the year~!

  • Just as I wanted. ^__^
    No matter how Nintendo turned out this E3, Pikmin makes up for it.

    • boundries_san

      Yeah.^^ if nintendo does not show any pikmin there, I am sure to said that nintendo E3 is the worst this year.

      Pikmin is really the saviour this time.^^

  • boundries_san

    The game looks really fun as what I expected.^^

    Well I hope for more pikmin to be introduced but….. This is not bad too.^^
