Project P-100 From PlatinumGames Coming To Wii U [Update]

By Ishaan . June 5, 2012 . 10:43am

Nintendo didn’t mention the game at their E3 media briefing, but PlatinumGames are developing a game for the Wii U, titled Project P-100. Watch a trailer below:

Update: The game will be published by Nintendo. It involves an alien invasion, and a group of heroes rise up to fight it. Unfortunately, the aliens are too strong for them individually, so they need to band together.

This is where the Wii U GamePad comes in. You can use the Wii U GamePad’s touch screen to command heroes such as Bonzai Man, Vending Machine Man and even Toilet Bowl Man. Heroes can also morph into gelatin to guard themselves from enemy attacks.

Seems a bit more cartoony than I thought they could create. Kind of on the fence with it.

Live gameplay looked cool on gametrailers.

  • boundries_san

……….*facepalm* Why don’t they show this game on the conference lol.

If they at least end the conference with this game, the reaction for the gamer wil be higher lol considering this game looks much better than Wii Fit and Just Dance.T_T

  • FitzpatrickPhillips

Wowwww why would they not show this at the conference. It looks great.

  • SetzerGabbiani

This looks promising.  More like this.  They are playing it on Spike right now.

  • GaiunxWolfenX

maybe they thought that it looked like pikmin 3 and the viewers would like to talk wrongly about it, never the less the conference wasn’t bad but it was a let down, hopefully the other 2 will be better

    • Anime10121

I’m far more interested in the 3DS showcase, as the Nintendo Press conference really didnt show much that we didn’t already know (or guess) was coming.  I knew since they weren’t announcing a release date or price for the thing that the conference would be kinda lacking.

I hope that the WiiU is a success though, especially with many Japanese developers so late developing their own engines or jumping into current gen that WiiU will be refuge for those who aren’t ready for PS4 or 720, meaning they wont have to again start from scratch on next gen.

    • BTA

Yeah, when Spike showed it they pretty much asked “Is this like Pikmin 3?” right away and then it was shown how it was different.

  • Shadowman

Looks aweome! This game might heads turning.

  • rinalicat

So basically…you’re a superhero who recruits people as their help/weapon..? Me thinks it is a grand idea…

  • Anime10121

Cant believe im saying this but I’m interested after watching that trailer, sorta looks like Disgaea envisioned as an action game instead of a SRPG.

  • Achrmaeiad

I have no idea what I just watched, but I kind of want it >_>

  • Jonathan Keycross

Heh, why save people when it´s better to turn them into your mob of sidekicks and increase the chances of beating the bad guys?

    Edit:Stupid grammar.

  • Alexandra Cordes

It took me a while for this concept to sink in. I went from unimpressed to wanting this as soon as possible. Bring it on, Platinum Games!

  • AzureNova

    Looks pretty kool

  • z_merquise

It’s really nice to see Platinum working on a different kind of game from another publisher.

Looked really good. So it had this simple but charming visuals that Nintendo games were known for but with Platinum’s style of “over-the-topness”.

This is really interesting. So this is what Masahiro Sakurai’s reason of visiting Platinum Games office almost a month ago:

    Breaking news!!

According on what I read in NeoGAF (which in turn they found it in Spike), the director of the game is Hideki Kamiya!!!

    Yes, THE Hideki Kamiya.

    • amagidyne

That means Bayonetta 2 really is canceled, doesn’t it. =(

      • Not really, no.

Kamiya has wanted to do something with Jeanne for a while, I know that, so it’s bound to happen eventually.  Having your attentions shift or be divided doesn’t mean a game is cancelled, just not your sole focus.

At least he’s not pulling an Ancell and teasing us with a sequel to a beloved game we’ve waited nearly a decade now for and have only gotten a misleading teaser for. :/

      • puchinri

I doubt that. Besides, Kamiya can work on more than one (or even two!) titles at once~.

        • amagidyne

           I hope you’re right.

      • It was never confirmed to begin with

  • SetzerGabbiani

After watching this trailer again, my faith has been partially restored.  It’s actually a pretty amazing concept and I see why they didn’t show it at the show because it is indeed a colorful RTS like Pikmin albeit with more action.  I’m hyped for this!

  • Code

    Haha I love this idea >w<; It's kind of funny but I feel more interested in this then I do Pikmin 3, which is sad since I've waited, so very, VERY, long for Pikmin 3. Kind of an unusual project for Platinum but I can't complain, it's quorky titles like this that I have a soft spot for ◕w◕;

    • z_merquise

I was also surprised when I first saw it but I really think this is a good thing that Platinum explored with different kind of games. Creating something different and unique is really good and I’m sure Platinum will deliver like they do with their previous games.

      • Code

Yeah, as far as I’m concerned Platinum can do anything, and I love the fact they basically can do a 180′ and make an interesting, compelling, cartoonish game like this, just as well as they can do something like Anarchy Reigns >w<~

  • DemonicX

I was excited when I heard that there was a project from Platinum Games. ..And then I saw it.

I guess it looks alright. I may rent it if I purchase a Wii so that I can at least give it a chance.

  • Cameron Ward

oh hai bank, i need to empty out my savings for the Wii U and this game along with the other amazing games coming for the system. you can do that? okay thanks bai :D

  • z_merquise

It got some Viewtiful Joe art-style, don’t you think?

    • Cameron Ward

       yeah it does. LOVE IT!

    •  I feel a transformation of the henshin kind coming on…

      • LynxAmali

        Henshin a-go-go, baby?

        Henshin a go-go, baby.

    • DanteJones

That’s the first thing I thought when I saw that. :)

    • yalissa

It’s made by the same guys who did Viewtiful Joe, so yeah c:

  • Wow, I was about to write this off during the first ten seconds of the trailer but it got really really really good as it went on. A diverse group of skills, interesting use of the WiiU controller and multiplayer to boot.

We need more co-op games like these. Super creative.

  • Jake Deerberg

Platinum Games. All that needed to be said to get me interested

  • I’m getting a very “quirky underrated Gamecube game” vibe from this one. Which is definitely a good thing.

  • Mago Iichi

It looked interesting and it had multiplayer. It’s one of out of 5 games that I want.I got 4 games already, but 5 is what I need in order for me to get a Wii U.

  • I don’t think Platinum is capable of making a game that doesn’t look cool as hell.

  • neo_firenze

The only reason I can think of that Nintendo didn’t show this at the press conference is out of respect for Miyamoto and not wanting him to lose face.  Because this game is WAAAAAY more impressive looking than the Miyamoto’s similar style (and shockingly bland/Gamecube-esque) Pikmin 3.

    •  Pikmin 3 and bland in the same sentence?  o_O  What is wrong with people this E3 week, bringing out all the crazy responses.

      • Code

I don’t know I’ve literally waited on Pikmin 3 since the credits rolled in Pikmin 2, I adored the game. But I have to admit Pikmin 3 footage didn’t exactly wow like I had hoped T__T; Not that I think it’s bad, and bland might be a litttle strong, but it just seemed like a fairly average endeavor.

I agree with @neo_firenze:disqus on this one, I get this vibe Nintendo kept this a little distant from Pikmin 3 because of the similar concept o~o which is sad since I found this trailer somewhat more interesting too.

        •  I guess if you want something completely new, but I just wanted more the same and loved it (which I don’t usually ask for, especially with Nintendo where Mario is ridiculous with tradition I want to stop playing the series).

          • Code

*shrugs* It’s not even that I’m looking for something completely new, honestly Pikmin 2 was so refined and good I don’t even think much has to change to make a really, really, good sequel. I know Pikmin 3 will probably deliver more Pikmin 2 goodness regardless of how wow the trailer is uwu

          • Actually this is reminding me more of Tokobot, which has a similar “ally” system but more with combat than time management.

  • WyattEpp

Kamiya and Inaba are putting the band back together? Nice!

  • puchinri

Well, that looked awesome. It looks like a lot of fun and quite action-packed.

Somehow, it reminds me of Chibi-Robo a bit, and with the obvious Pikmin feel. I’m really looking forward to it! And it’s awesome that Ninty is publishing it. I hope they can publish more Platinum titles.

  • DanteJones

Too bad this wasn’t shown during the conference, it looks great!

  • yalissa

So instead of showing Bonzai Man, Vending Machine Man, and Toilet Bowl Man, they spent their time showing Batman?

I really wished that this game would have been shown at the conference. I think that when this game comes out, it may just fly under the radar, knowing this generation of gamers. AAAH. I WANT THIS GAME SO BAD NOW THOUGH.

  • Domii

I’m so happy for Platinum, that they are finally moving away from Sega, and being recognize by bigger companies. Keep on the success P*.

    Btw Rising looks phenomenal.

  • This should of been shown, and name drop PG and Kamiya.  This looks awesome.  It is like Viewtiful Joe and Pikmin had a baby.

  • aoihana

Haha! I wasn’t expecting that! It’s unexpectedly epic! Then again, it’s PlatinumGames, they could make a game about counting sheep exciting. (*^ワ^*)

I love that whole band together thing, and it really is, actually. I love that you combine together and form weapons, or turn a defensive formation into an offensive strike. It’s awesome! It’s kind of cinematic, too, especially at the end! (◕‿◕✿)

  • eilegz

If this its done by indie developers with low budget for a digital release this would be ok.

The problem? well we are talking about hideki kamiya and platinum games, 2
big name that mostly do amazing AAA game and not this kind of mini game.
The art style its unappealing and weird, the game play looks not good, this
its even worse than spyborg (which its not a bad game when it got released).

For me this its hard to digest, but its not a game that i can expect from them, bayonetta 2 would be a megaton…. but this nah not hyped….

This would be like zack and wiki, spyborg, madworld maybe not bad game but too weird…

  • Göran Isacson

Okay, on the one hand- holy crap a game influenced by Pikmin, Smash TV and Earth Defense Force! This is the kind of quirky, awesome game that you can have tons of multiplayer fun with with a lot of puzzling and action-packed hours, who cares if it looks a little budget-y lookswise, what fun!

Then I see the ones who make it are Platinum, and compare it to their other games like Bayonetta, Anarchy Reigns, Revengeance and… yeah I won’t lie, the graphics being so much less advanced kinda sticks out. I think it looks fun, but it’s just not… shining? Is that the proper word? I don’t know, I am filled with equal parts “that looks so fun!” and equal parts “… meh”. I don’t know how that is possible, but it’s there and it’s what I feel.

    • zeta

its a game under development so they may have not polished the graphics yet.

  • Solomon_Kano

For Platinum this is odd and kinda… not what I look for from them. Still, since it IS Platinum, I’ll check it out.

  • Zonic505

It’s like Pikmin mixed with Katamari with Viewtiful Joe-style graphics. Rather unexpected, but I’m looking forward to this. Man, this should’ve been shown during the press conference.

  • PoweredByHentai

    Toilet Bowl Man.

It is official.  Best.  Hero.  Ever.

    • zeta

with powers that shoots crap out of his mouth
