    Alright! Akira’s old outfit!

  • Brimfyre

I want to be excited about this as a DOA super fan, but I see Hitomi in a clown outfit and Chritie in a Hard Hat and I can’t but feel all enthusiasm leave my body.

Also the Virtua Fighters don’t help my mood.  Wish they would just call this game DOS Vs. VF and then make a real DOA 5.

    • Testsubject909

*focuses on that Kasumi swimsuit outfit DLC*

Don’t worry, I feel you. I really want Hitomi to look awesome in this… and Christie too. Hitomi’s my favorite in DOA and I’d be freaking depressed if she didn’t look hot in it…

      • mirumu

         I’ll just leave this here…

      • XiaomuArisu

Dont worry bro!Im sure that they will still have SEXY or CUTE or AWESOME costumes. But I really like the omg bbq costumes.XD

    • mirumu

I can’t get excited about this game either for various reasons, but in fairness DOA1 was loaded with all sorts of random costumes like those so it isn’t like they’re breaking tradition in that respect. I remember being disappointed with the first release of DOA2 how most characters only had 2 costumes.

    • raymk

You can remove the hardhat from christie so that’s not a big deal.  I don’t get the deal with the clown costumes, you people act like they haven’t had stuff like this before.  The only thing i’m not happy with is the swimsuits but not because of what you might think.  I just hate them cause their boring and most of them look the same.

  • Repede91

I`m so excited  for DOA5! Every bit of info that is released gets me more pumped. This and Most Wanted are my personal favorites from E3 2012 so far.

I don’t see how this is any better than DOA4… honestly.

    • Testsubject909

I understand the sentiment. Though there are guests characters in this one. And probably DLC skimpy outfits.

    • mirumu

I’m with you. It looks a lot like change for the sake of change. Half the characters don’t look anything like they used to either.

      • raymk

They aren’t really supposed to look anything like they used to.  I think your just mad they got rid of the plastic look.  They did that because people were tired of that and if you’ve watched the trailer even the graphics themselves have changed.

Though from the open discussion you just seem to have something against DOA just for the sake of complaining.

        • mirumu

Mad? No, I just find the new look more jarring than anything. It’s like they’ve tried to make the characters look more realistic, assuming women with skinny supermodel figures in fighting tournaments could be considered realistic, but I can’t watch it without some sense of revulsion kicking in when the illusion of reality breaks down. The designs themselves still don’t look especially realistic to me at times. An “uncanny valley” response might be the best way of putting it.

The old style didn’t aim for reality, and took plenty of artistic license. I can certainly understand people not liking it, but it did serve the series relatively well over the years. Equally I can understand people liking the new style, but it is undeniably more generic since it’s more in line with what so many other games are doing these days.

          • raymk

Well I except your opinion i’m just saying that its kinda confusing to see people get mad.  It also really isn’t about realism either its about the characters looking like plastic which was fine for the time but some things do need to evolve graphically.  I would understand if this was a 2d game but its 3D and being that you have to keep up with the times.

    • raymk

Same thing with you.  You say you don’t see how its better because you probably just don’t know what makes one DOA good from the next.  This is looking to be the best doa and i’m more than positive your one of the very few butthurt fans that just hate the game cause of the style change like mirumu.

Heck you even called out the tales game for the same thing so when it comes to gaming opinions its hard to trust yours when the artwork just decides weather you hate the game or not. You said the DOA5 demo was terrible but didn’t even say why or how.  Besides demos aren’t always the best way to judge a game and by the player feedback and reception this game has it looks to be the best.

      • mirumu

“This is looking to be the best doa”

Then I hope you buy it and enjoy it. Seriously. Why though do you need to validate your opinion by mischaracterizing others? My main concerns about DOA5 actually revolve around the gameplay changes. Putting the strawman arguments you made aside though, will a few people having a different opinion make you enjoy the game less?

It’s pretty obvious from the comments on DOA5 threads that most people seem to like what they see of DOA5 so I don’t really see why you need to find the few who don’t just so you can whine at them. What was that you were saying about “butthurt fans” again?

I must say, I left impressed seeing what they’ve revealed yesterday.

First off, Kokoro now looks like her own character and not Lei-Fang with different eyes & hairstyle. Facial rendering has definitely improved (speaking of, I don’t see that much of a difference with Hitomi now, but if less people are complaining, then that’s good). Overall character design has improved as well (not by much, but it’s a start). Of course, there were some awkward alternates, but not every costume has to be great.

The trailer reveals weren’t that big of a deal to me. The thing I really liked was this (skip this if you don’t care about the little techy stuff) :

There were some technical things I read from the FreeStepDodge website speaking of how the hold system has been changed from DoA4 (amongst other things). You can no longer counter out of critical hit stun at will unlike in DoA4; it’s now more like previous installments. Include that with the 4-point-hold, and this is probably the least random the hold system has ever been. Power blows now have restrictions in usage thus making QTEs happen less prevalently. There’s also critical blows which also effect the critical stun and hold dynamic. From what I’m hearing, basically this will make the game more about making quick tap-tap combos to prevent the opponent from being able to counter out of critical stun (of course, easier said than done and are not the ideal kind of combo in every situation).

I’m kind of obsessed with the littler nuisances in how things work. I liked what I heard and now believe that DoA5 has a chance to be the best in the series from a technical standpoint.

As long as QTEs aren’t TOO prevalent and story mode isn’t overloaded with fanservice (it’s always good to have some, but too much of it isn’t good), DoA5 could wind up being surprisingly great (considering what happened to NG3).

There are more than 2 male characters in this game right?

    • http://www.siliconera.com/ Ishaan

Five are confirmed so far, to my knowledge.

    • raymk

Dead or alive has always had more males than females in their games so I don’t get the joke.

  • ALfromHELLSING

Man, I’m so loving everything I’ve seen so far and I demo from Ninja Gaiden 3 was amazing too!

    ~background music rocks!! I need a rip.

  • Rei Fal’Cie Sanchez

Looks fantastic and I like the realistic look to them. Also I’m hoping a DOA game on the VITA :3

  • Laharl

DoA Guest Star – Sarah Bryant :D

Tekken TT2 Guest Star – Washed Up Rapper :(

  • Testsubject909

Looking at all of this, knowing some of their DLC plans.

What was that again about wanting to reduce the fan service? Cuz I see plenty of it still…

And I like it! Hey? What? Why’re you all looking like that, what’d you expect?

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Eugenio-Gil/100000517635083 Eugenio Gil

Woo hoo! Tina is looking great! XD
I am so getting this for my B-day!

  • Angeru_Lito

That Tina pick remind me of Rhyme from TWEWY

Kokoro looks so much better now. Me like. :) Can’t wait to see Helena and Lisa.
