Zero Escape: Virtue’s Last Reward Escapes To North America This October

By Ishaan . June 7, 2012 . 11:01am

We’ve known for some time that adventure game, Zero Escape: Virtue’s Last Reward, is headed to the Nintendo 3DS and PlayStation Vita sometime this fall, but today, Aksys provided a slightly more specific timeframe—October.

Zero Escape: Virtue’s Last Reward is a follow-up to 999: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine  Doors, which was published by Aksys in 2010 for the Nintendo DS. Both games are developed by Chunsoft and designed by Kotaro Uchikoshi, who’s best known as the writer of acclaimed visual novel, Ever 17.

Looks interesting. If I can find a copy of 999 I’ll defininetly pick it up just so I’m up to speed on the story :)

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Steve-Thompson/100000355411389 Steve Thompson

      try amazon

  • FitzpatrickPhillips

    Is your body ready?

  • XYZ_JolteonZ980

Perfect, October is perfect. I think Ill be getting it and three other vita games with my AssCreed PS Vita Bundle. Cant wait!

Title makes the game sound pretty depressing. Hope it has a happy ending to make me feel good.

  • Levin_Scorpius

I shall anxiously anticipate your arrival, dearest birthday present.

On another note, is this game as novel like as 999 was? Or does it forego the narration and just shows everything in a cutscene-y fashion? Or combination of both?

    • http://www.aksysgames.com Belisarius

The novel/puzzle balance is very similar to 999. The only major difference is that all the novel sections have voice acting now.

      • Levin_Scorpius

That’s what I was hoping for, thanks.

In regards to voice acting, you mean just the dialogue is voiced or that the dialogue and the writing (like as in the bottom screen in 999) are all voiced?

        • http://www.aksysgames.com Belisarius

Everything each character says (except for Sigma, the protagonist) is voiced during the novel sections. The narrative text isn’t voiced. There’s no voice acting whatsoever during the escape sections.

  • usagi_san

Great News! Hopefully the PAL regions will something soon. Still need to pick up the first game. :(

    • http://twitter.com/FaithlessMr Bruno Silva

Do pick it up. You will not be disappointed. I fell in love with the game as soon as I played it for the first time.

Actually, since I’m assuming this game won’t be released in Europe, I’ll import a Vita copy of this game when it releases in the US, even though I currently don’t have a Vita nor do I plan on getting one for the time being. Just because I love this series so damn much, and these games do tend to disappear fast, since not many copies are shipped, and I dunno how easy it will be to get this game when I do end up getting the Vita ;)

      • usagi_san

Certainly will. The game sounds really interesting.

Same here. If there is no European release, I’ll just pick up a US one. Vita: Where gamers are the winner.

      • Julien_N

While I think Ever 17 (which also involved Kotaro Uchikoshi) is superior, I loved 999, and I would like a PAL release. I considered importing the Vita version, but I don’t have a Vita as of now and I don’t really plan to get one : too expensive, not enough games that caught my attention, and here, the 3DS version may be more practical with its two screens.
        Damn you region lock! =P

  • http://alboreo.tumblr.com Alboreo

    So ridiculously excited for this.

  • AnimusVox

Perfect…I’ll be getting the AC Vita bundle which, if I’m not mistaken, comes out the same month.

EDIT: Ok XYZ_Jolteon beat me to the punch lol

  • Speedo Redempteur

    October …
    */put cross mark(s) on calendar ..

Vita version for me ..but regardless of your platform of choice , BUY IT .

    I mean seriously …It’s a must get if you’ve enjoyed 9,9,9

    • Raharu95

      I’lll get it regardless.

  • Jose Mossel

My body is so ready *^*

  • Kristina Wright

Not sure if I’ll be picking up the Vita or 3DS version…or possibly both.

  • João Madalena

So glad, some high quality visual novels are coming to the west, we need more of these.

    • Paul Murphy

I’m really glad, 999/katawa shoujo and even Ace attorney make a huge impact here for visual novel’s. Even corpse party to an extent.

      • João Madalena

Yes, but still is too little compared to the masterpieces that don’t come here like Fate/Stay Night, Clannad, Muv-luv etc… thankfully there are some fan translations but it isn’t the same.

        • Paul Murphy

I actually never got round to giving Fate/Stay night a try , heard a lot about it though , is it worth playing with the fan translation?

          • Dokurochan

Personally, I don’t think Fate/Stay Night deserves all the hype it receives. That doesn’t make F/SN a bad game as I actually do believe that it has a really good plot with excellent characterization. My really big issue with it is it’s too long. I don’t actually have any problems with something being long but F/SN is just long for the sake of being long. There’s too many instances where the story drags and simply becomes boring and it’s due to those long sequences of filler that I still haven’t completed the Heaven’s Feel route.

Even with all that said, I would still recommend reading Fate/Stay Night as it is still a good read overall.

          • Suicunesol

I don’t think so. In my case, the longer it is the better. I kind of didn’t want it to end. :P

          • Paul Murphy

Thanks I will give it a go, i do understand the whole being too long thing though, If it has multiple ending’s anyway( which i sort of assumed ).

Still going through Ever17 because i’m missing a couple of ending’s. I guess this mean’s i will not be short of anything to read/play until October!

          • M’iau M’iaut

@facebook-100003276451924:disqus Little trick with Ever17 is to use the shortcuts after you beat the game to jump to the various day starts. You’ll never miss any new dialogue or events, even things before the ends.

          • Paul Murphy

M’iau M’iaut , That’s a good idea i never thought about that. I kind of like just playing the whole thing over and over though, also i kind of worry i might miss a choice i need to get a certain ending.

          • João Madalena

Personally I found F/SN “too short” it was over before I could believe it. Can’t wait for the translation of Fate Hollow Ataraxia.

          • Suicunesol

             Yes. :)

  • Hours

I literally can’t wait. My most wanted game of the year along with Growlanser IV.

  • http://twitter.com/BurnMyApathy BurnMyApathy

Oh man, I can’t wait. I’m gonna replay 999 (again) to hold me over until then. xD

  • http://zenithianhero.tumblr.com/ Kuronoa

Good thing I have a 3DS.  Something tells me Vita version will be more popular here due to importers.  Oh but if enough changes I may double dip anyways. 3DS version may just have a more organized interface.

  • neo_firenze

I thought we had known that for a month or two already… at least I already had it marked as October on my spreadsheet of upcoming games I want (yes, I’m that much of a geek!)

I guess it might not have been official until now though, maybe I was just going by a date that the major retailers (Amazon, Gamestop) were using based on their info from Aksys.

At any rate, this will be mine as soon as it’s available.

  • Darkrise

    Still need a job for a 3DS…

    • AzureNova

      Awww (Pats Darkrise on head)

    • AJ

I hear crime is fairly lucrative.

  • AzureNova

Yes! Another game to add to my Vita library ^_^

  • Solomon_Kano

Oho? Good to know my Vita will have something to do for the fall.

  • enorka miho

Right.. I will have to get a vita soon…

  • Hinataharem

I never played 999, yet I plan on getting this.

    • http://www.aksysgames.com Belisarius

I would strongly suggest that if you ever intend to play 999 you do so before you play VLR.

      • Paul Murphy

Totally agree , i wouldn’t say it is pointless or anything to play it without playing 999 , but put it this way , if this game even comes close to 999 or ever 17 it will be great. So you should play 999 first, and definitely get all ending’s.(not that i really need to tell you to, to get the ‘true’ ending you need to get at least one other ending, and i guarantee you if you make it through that game once, you will be willing to immediately start it over and over again)

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1507813163 Miguel Marfori

Agreed. You must play 999 and get all 6 endings. The whole story is makes perfect sense when you’ve acquired the true ending. You might as well take a walkthrough if you plan to get the true ending. I know I did XD It was hard but worth the effort.

      • Paul Murphy

Mind a spoiler free one of course!

        • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1507813163 Miguel Marfori

          Yup. I won’t say a word. Hihihihihi… :D
But man, the whole story of the game is just so tense and twisting.
Anyway, if Hinataharem agrees, she’d better spend some time finding out the truth.

          • Paul Murphy

In light of everything discussed here i am going through 999 again :P By going through i mean going through all endings again. Hoping to finish off the last 2 endings in ever17 before then too for that matter.

          • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1507813163 Miguel Marfori

Hahahaha… :D Wow dood, you’re so stoked! Good luck then. Well, I’ll just wait till the release. Still can’t get over that ending… and the twist.

  • boundries_san

It seems i am going to sooo unable to escape from this game when this is released lol.^^

  • Carocaro4

My amigops and I loved 999!! I got so many people to like the game. Fun times, fun times. This is great. I can’t wait to tell them. thanks bro.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1507813163 Miguel Marfori

I’m buying both the VITA and 3DS versions. Why? ‘Cuz my brother has a VITA and I have a 3DS. So it’s good to have our own versions. I had to wait for a while to get my 3DS back when my brother had it playing 999. XD so now, I get to play the sequel without my bro invading! wahahahah.

  • SupaPhly

I am so glad the vita is region free. I was planning to get the 3ds version (I prefer the stylus over my finger :P)

  • Paul Murphy

Does anybody know if there are any available pre-order’s for the NA vita version? Preferably that ship to the UK , I am of the opinion that if this game get’s a euro release it will be a while.

EDIT: amazon.com now has pre-order’s available for import if anybody else is looking, $77 with express shipping(2-4 days i think) is a little steep but totally worth it :)

  • Joanna

3DS version for me~ I am not lying when I say this is my most anticipated game. I am making sure I’ve got the money for it. >:3 Loved 999, no way will I miss out on this (or waiting a few days/months extra). xD
