Gungnir Gets A Launch Trailer To Celebrate Its U.S. Release

By Ishaan . June 12, 2012 . 11:30am

Atlus USA released Sting RPG, Gungnir, in North America today, and have put out a new launch trailer to coincide with its release. You can watch it below:

Gungnir is a story of war and politics. You can read our playtest of the game here, which covers both the game’s battle system as well as its story presentation.

As a reminder, for those in Europe who are waiting to play the game and don’t want to import it, the USK recently rated Gungnir with Atlus’ parent company, Index Digital Media, listed as its publisher.

    i want this bad

  • Strain42

I’m using this game to keep hopeful that Atlus is gonna announce Eternal Punishment soon…

  • NorthernPatches

This art style, I love it so freaking much.

  • SirRichard

Index better actually move on that European trademark, it’d be cruel of them to just take it for security or whatever. I don’t care how you get it to us, fellas, just do it somehow!

  • cj_iwakura

    Let the Wayfarer hype commence!

  • Rocsas

Everytime I buy a Sting´s game, before playing it I just hear a voice in my head saying dont let the cute art fool you “this is not a happy story”

  • SolidusSnake

Oh yeah, I need to buy this. Thanks for the reminder, siliconera :3

  • This came out today but Amazon said I won’t get it until Friday. That makes no sense considering free 2-day shipping (Amazon Prime is awesome).

  • venomz09

psp gets this, and 3ds gets smt 4.

an vita gets nothing…oh wait a persona fighting game later on.

atlus is doing such a bang up job these days.

Actually P4Arena is for the PS3.
P4Golden (a remake) is for the vita.

  • Got my copy. Loving it so far!

I forgot this game came out. Ran out to pick it up along with Gravity Rush. Freaked out when one of the gamestops didn’t have it. Thankfully, he alerted me he looked up used earlier and found a nearby store with it :D

  • I wanna like Dept. Heaven, I really do, but I’ve come to realize that aside from Yggdra Union they all kinda suck. The dating sim elements in Riviera were neat but the gameplay was frustrating as hell. I might give this a shot some time down the road but no rush. I’m really starting to regret getting this PSP. There were games I wanted for it but they continue to disappoint me. =/

Have you played Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together? Lovely game. My current favourite and I don’t say that lightly. It used to be Chrono Trigger for over 10 years until TO beat it out this year.

      • I’ve heard people talk about it and the difficulty sounds really cheap. Some people love that kind of difficulty but they way the described it seem like complete BS. The enemy scaling and cheap things the A.I. can do. Granted this was around the games launch so I don’t remember it too clearly but it put me off. I’ve traded my PSP though so it doesn’t matter now anyways.

        • Joanna

The level scaling only happens once you reach post game and use the World System to play through the other routes. If completion isn’t a big deal, it’s easy to ignore (since you can just play the game from a new file to see the other routes). Personally though, I don’t find it that bad. Although I do admit I love SRPGs and tend to be pretty good at them. But like you say, it’s too late now.

I can’t download this on Vita from PSN.  ):

    • jujubee88

Is it still $40 on the PSN?

  • Go2hell66

ah not on psn for vita!

  • Learii

will this be in ps vita PSN?

    • Solomon_Kano

According to the two comments right below yours, no. I’d imagine that it’ll be up eventually, but it’s not available right now.

Why was @vanomz comment reported? I can understand if it where a “damn this should be on VITA” annoying spam post, be there was a point there (aside from him/her screwing up title names).

It is June 2012 (in case there are any Vampires out there) and the infrastructure for new PSP hardware and the retail delivery for PSP has all but dissipated here in the US (w/ gamestop no longer carrying UMD’s) so … what was the though process?

I LOVE LOVE some of the old games Sting made and a lot of what Atlus makes I typically am all for buying and I could dive right into. But it begs the question, why go through the effort of localizing “Gungnir”? Why not make “Gungnir” a downloadable VITA game with online trophy support?

PSP is next to irrelevant compared to the PS VITA in the US hence, no mention of PSP at this years E3, no more new PSP stuff sold at retailers, all VITA stuff being pushes by Playstation.

Ugh, this is such a VITA fanboy rant, but VITA does have an elevating fan-base that does buy digital goods. Stuff like PSN only VITA titles have thousands of dl’s alone just about three months into its lifecycle (and that is just based on the people who buy and rate the games on PSN).

Either way, I love these types of games (of the cartoonist JRPG and Strategy genre) so I want it to succeed. When it comes to Atlus and Sting, I do not wish to see the people at that company come off bad because they have to pay all those fee’s for manufacturing the physical game copies, translating it, throwing in new VO’s(?), and chipping in various other efforts (which cost time and resources) only to have the game record small profit margins (at best) or cause them to lose money.
