Final Fantasy III PSP Screenshots Show Off The Updated Visuals

By Ishaan . June 14, 2012 . 9:00am

Square Enix are porting Final Fantasy III DS to the PSP with updated visuals, similar to the game’s iOS version, released last year. The PSP port will have a couple of new features such as the option to use the original Famicom soundtrack during the game, and an auto-battle mode to make grinding easier.

Today, Square released a large batch of screenshots for the game, which you can find below. Final Fantasy III will be released on September 20th in Japan.

It… Looks exactly like the DS version. Maybe I’m blind, but I can’t see how the visuals were upgraded outside of now being in widescreen.

    • theoriginaled

I was tempted to say that there looked like there might be a bit more shading on the textures in the psp version but going back and looking at the ds visuals.. no theres really no difference.

    • Godmars

My guess: slightly sharper graphics. Nothing you wouldn’t otherwise see considering that the PSP has a higher resolution screen.

    • MrRobbyM

It’s a bit sharper. The PSP has a higher resolution and what @theoriginaled:disqus said.

  • SetzerGabbiani

This is a pretty shameless, quick port, cash-in to be honest.  They are counting on that giant Japanese PSP userbase to buy this.

Welcome to Earth. You must be new here.

      • kupomogli

I’m new.  I come from that great star ocean in the sky.  Well, Future Earth 2000 years from now, actually.  In Final Fantasy MMMCDLXXXVII, that’s FF3487, you can’t tell the difference from a character in game to a real life person, it looks that good.  You’d never think a game was worse than FF13, but all of them are, sadly.  It only goes downhill from here.

Okay, so I’m lying, but I don’t think this message is really so much off. If Square keeps doing as bad as they have been the last few years, then it might be true if they’re around that long.

        • MrRobbyM

Awesome! Well, I mean, not totally awesome. Does time travel exist 2000 years from now? I mean, my time? That way you can go back in time and save SE from becoming a steaming pile of garbage.

          I’m kidding, mostly.

Welcome to business. We recommend our BS.

  • Paradox me

It looks nice, coming pretty close to the iOS version. Widescreen, sharper, running at nearly twice the resolution of the DS.

Here’s hoping they release it outside of Japan.

  • kupomogli

Maybe this version won’t suck.  Oh.  Right.  It’s Final Fantasy 3.  Nevermind.

Please leave such deep analysis elsewhere. Thank you.

      • kupomogli

Already have. It’s over in the other thread.

        • MrRobbyM

          I lol’d.

  • Darrel Daley

I would have liked to see a FFIII 2D update like FFI/FFII/FFIV on PSP. I just wasn’t a fan of the visual DS remake of FFIII/FFIV.

    • MAO

      Same here.

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

I’ll stick to the DS remake

  • AzureNova

Yes, another game for the Vita =P

  • Stephen Mc Devitt

I wonder why Final Fantasy IV for the PSP couldn’t be a port of the DS like III?

I don’t think I would be bothered with The After Years since it’s more
like fan fiction than a sequel. You play the son of Cecil and Rosa,
basically IV caught the “Lady and the Tramp 2″ disease.

  • Guest

They should revamped the whole game and made them look like their CGI counterparts

  • elyas juba

    Where are you Type-0 :/ ?????

  • Matthew Emirzian

    PSP’s not dead yet!

    • bluejuan85

Indeed here’s hoping for a US release even though I have the DS version already but gosh darnit I need more PSP games. Atlus has been filling that role quite nicely.

  • $36598391

This looks exactly the same as the DS version, doesn’t look like they tuned up the graphics at all, why the hell does Square Enix not give PSP owners a version of Final Fantasy III like Final Fantasy, Final Fantasy II and Final Fantasy IV Complete Collection for the PSP
