Pokemon Black & White 2 Pre-Orders Hit The 1 Million Mark

By Ishaan . June 24, 2012 . 4:30pm

The Pokémon Company have revealed that pre-orders for Pokémon Black/White 2 in Japan reached the 1.16 million mark on June 17th, according to sales tracker, Media Create. The games were released in Japan yesterday, June 23rd.

The original Pokémon Black/White saw a tremendous number of pre-orders as well in 2010. By August 22nd—a whole month ahead of their September 18th release date—Black/White pre-orders had reached 1.08 million. As of May 20th, 2012, the games have sold 5.47 million copies in Japan alone.

As per usual, we’ll get to find out sales numbers for Black/White 2 this coming week. Thus far, retailer reports from Japan haven’t indicated much of interest, other than that they will likely run out of stock before they receive their next shipment of the game.

North America and Europe will see Pokémon Black/White 2 this fall.

I’m pre-ordering these at amazon. hate that gamestop charges five bucks more.

    • KotaroInugami

Umm… They are selling it for the same price… Perhaps you don’t understand that the five dollars to preorder actually goes toward the price of the game?

      • XYZ_JolteonZ980

I thought that in the past Amazon actually marked down the games before release date by $5 for Pokemon.

        • KotaroInugami

Not totally wrong. The way amazon works is when you pre-order something, between then and the release date if they do any changes to the price, you will always pay whatever was the lowest price they offered was. If you pre-order today and tomorrow they lower the price by 5 bucks, but the next day it goes back up, you will be paying the 5 buck lower price.

  • KHSoraKeyBlade

Another 1 million pre-orders? Congrats Nintendo and Game Freak! :D
I’m glad the wait for these games won’t be as long as it was for BW.

  • thaKingRocka

I really don’t follow Pokemon games, so I don’t know what’s been going on. What made them decide to make a “sequel” to B & W instead of coming up with two other colors?

    • AuraGuyChris

Most likely because the story left a few plotholes. You don’t get to see the Shadow Triad, you don’t know where N went, you don’t see Ghetsis…

    • http://twitter.com/zeldana zeldana

      $$$

Edit: To be fair, they wanted to expand on the “new” concept they had for Unova to begin with. Using direct sequels rather than a third pillar this generation is one such experiment.

    • Suicunesol

Because BW2 is not a new generation; it’s merely the traditional third iteration split into two versions that continue the plot of BW.

You can expect a two new colors when a new generation of Pokemon pops up.

      • thaKingRocka

The lack of a new generation of Pokemon is the answer that most makes sense to me. I hadn’t realized that there were people who cared about the plot of a Pokemon game, but I couldn’t really see it being all that strong. I’ve got to say that I can’t see anyone shelling out when there are no new Pokemon, but I was pretty satisfied to walk away from the series after completing Blue with about 40 Pokemon back in 1998.

        • Suicunesol

Well, it’s understandable that someone who hasn’t been following the games wouldn’t know that B/W had a little more emphasis on the plot. Not dramatic enough to change the way the game plays, but a visible change nonetheless. Many people did like it, and it had the potential to develop into something interesting. :)

That said, BW’s plot was complete enough (in my opinion) that an actual sequel would not have been necessary at all. The sequel probably just capitalizes on the loose ends that BW left behind. I myself am not sure whether I’ll get BW2 yet; I was pretty satisfied with the first entry.

I don’t know about other people not shelling out; Crystal, Emerald, and Platinum all sold well. Usually the third versions have enough features to make them attractive buys. We shall see if BW2 surpasses them sales wise.

Also thinking up of new colors that has a nice ring to it is hard :D

  • XYZ_JolteonZ980

I need to actually preorder the games and the hardcover guide when it hits conus.

  • Levin_Scorpius

At this point you have to wonder just how much money Nintendo has tucked away (I’m informed that they apparently have enough to last two failing console generations or something like that).

The saying “It prints money!” is not even adequate enough to describe Nintendo anymore.

  • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

    O.o another one million there.^^

Congratz to Gamefreak there and here i also am waiting for the English release.^^

  • CirnoLakes

At first, even though I tend to buy all Pokemon games anyway, because, I mean, you can’t go wrong with buying Pokemon games and I’m a Pokemaniac. I was wondering how much Black and White 2 would stand out. I was obviously going to buy it, and I anticipate Pokemon games quite a bit. But at first I didn’t know if there would be anything to stand out about the game and make me want to buy it other than “omg, another Pokemon game”.

But Oh God. There are so many awesome things in the game. Not the least of which the awesome choice for Pokemon Champion. And probably the most challenging Champion ever.

American version pre-ordered and Japanese version ordered as soon as I get my next paycheck. This is going to be so much fun I’m so excited. These pre-order numbers are so deserved in my opinion. I hope this game does really well. In the West, of course, too.

    • komiko12

Ooh yeah. I am very happy to see the she is the new Champion.
Her arsenal of Pokemon is also better than most Champions.
The female Champions are so amazing :D

  • Herok♞

This technically shouldn’t be news since this isn’t surprising to anyone.

  • grevlinghore

Glad I´m one of a million! My copy should arrive by mail any day now :)

  • JMaster3000

Black 2 and White 2 are way much better then Black and White

    Sexy Elesa.

  • komiko12

    Nintendo: Show me the money.
Me: Uhmm. I am quite short at the moment.
Nint: That’s okay. I know you’ll still buy it :D

  • Renaldi Saputra

ahh dude, I wanna play it as soon as possible.. ummm an english patch maybe?? (remember that eng version is different from eng patch). Bcos I played B/W 1 with eng patch before the eng version released (bilingual)

  • DemonKingAsura

     Preordered Black 2 from Gamestop.

Now we just need a Grey, but instead of being an updated directors cut game, it needs to be the final game of the Unova trilogy (And come after the Ruby/ Sapphire remakes that have a lot of hints being made for it) and be the final 5th gen gae, and come out on the 3DS.

Thumbs up if anyone else agrees.

    • Evan Groman

Uhhh, why do we need another game set in Unova?

      edit:
To clear it up, I meant it more as this: Why would you desire another game in Unova? Isn’t this enough to just move on to another region now?

      • PoweredByHentai

        Because it rhymes with sonuva?

        Zing!

Don’t mind me, I helped out with a friend’s wedding and got them home after they were all smashed from drinking white wine.

      • Ben Sylvia

Why do we need another sports game with few changes from one released a year earlier?

Why do we need another FPS about over throwing a megalomaniac dictator?

Why do we need another anything?

        • Evan Groman

We don’t, but I understand if they bring it out. Like, I didn’t particularly want a black2/white2, I’d prefer them to go straight on to gen 6 or remake Ruby/Sapphire, but I don’t mind it. I’d be happy to get it. I’d be happy to get a third game in the “Unova trilogy” if it did come out, what I don’t understand is why he would desire it.
Like, what about Unova is so good or yet unexplored that it’s so desirable to have a new game of it with only very few changes? Wouldn’t it be much more desirable to have something new or remake RSE?

          • grevlinghore

Well a lot more has changed about Unova in Black and White 2 than what you´d find in say the Pokemon Gray that everyone were expecting.

          • LynxAmali

Because we’ve already had a remake/re-envisioning this gen? It’s called HeartGold and SoulSilver.

What’s so special about R/S/E that people want them remade anyway? They’re perfectly fine games on the GBA and still stand up when compared to D/P and Black and White.

You also have to take into consideration the fact that both Red and Blue, Gold, Silver and Crystal were on the original Gameboy as well as having anniversaries. (Well, the later was technically on the GBC but the point still stands.) They was also a huge fan clamoring for a G/S remake for years before they actually got remade and I’ve just seen people begging for a R/S/E remake recently, compared to the years before G/S got remade.

          • Evan Groman

People expect an RSE remake simply because they’ve developed a pattern where a generation gets remade two generations later. 1 was remade in 3, 2 was remade in 4, so naturally people expect 3 to be remade in 5. It’s not a weird claim in the slightest.

Also, HGSS are generation four, so I don’t know how that comment has anything to do with this.

RSE has the region that we haven’t visited for the longest amount of time, Kanto was in HGSS, etc. R/S/E will also have their tenth anniversary in November of this year, so that aspect is just encouragement if nothing else.

Aside from graphics and whatever, there’s two whole generations of new Pokemon to include in an RSE remake, which is arguably the biggest addition that games get during remakes. The only thing that is theoretically “good enough” in GBA’s RSE are the graphics, that’s the only thing that truly separates them from 1st and 2nd gen and make them so undeserving of a remake in your eyes. Even that being considered, I don’t think it can be said that it’s not time for a remake yet. Just like the other games, it’s been ten years.

Anyway, no one’s “begging” for an RSE remake, it would just break the pattern gamefreak started if they don’t remake it, so people are expecting that to be their next step, logically speaking.

      • DemonKingAsura

Because we haven’t seen what the complete dragon looks like (Presumably a Kyruem with both Reshiram and Zekrom absorbed by it IE, the original dragon that fell from the meteor in Kyurem’s backstory), and Ghetsis presumably escaped again in Black 2/ White 2′s story.

        • Suicunesol

          …are you kidding me?

Are you saying a BW3 for Nintendo DS is possible?
