Code of Princess Trailer Boasts Of Over 50 Playable Characters

By Ishaan . June 29, 2012 . 1:02pm

Code of Princess is headed to North America this fall, courtesy of Atlus, and today, they released a teaser trailer for the brawler, along with an image of the Sound & Visual Book and official soundtrack that you get for pre-ordering the game.

Code of Princess is developed by the team that created Guardian Heroes for the Sega Saturn. Like that game, you can play as the main characters (four of them) in single player mode, and a whole lot more—50, according to the trailer—in offline/online multiplayer mode, encompassing a variety of enemies and NPCs. You can read our hands-on impressions of the game here.

  • Code

    Looking forward to it >ww<~

  • riceisnice

The female protagonist is practically naked.

  • pedrron

Glad to see 2D side scrollers still being brought over. Thank you very much Atlus, already pre-ordered!! Also, cool pre-order bonus :)

  • Jungo

That is a lot of characters! Wonder how balance will turn out.

  • harmonyworld

    not liking over-sexualised princess~
Now I’m a bit turned off from the game.

    • raymk

You shouldn’t be no one really likes the over-sexualised princess doesn’t make the game not fun.  It’d be like me not liking naruto even though I like other characters from the series, and other characters are in this game.

      • rebecasunao

It doesn’t make the game bad, but everyone who is bothered by how the Princess looks should voice their complaints. That way, if the developer cares about what the players say, they’ll refrain from creating a character like that again.

        •  Or, you know, just censor it for the the localized versions.

          • rebecasunao

            I don’t think that would look good…

          • Arrei

Which tends to annoy fans even more.

The armor’s silly, sure, but she inspired the creation of the game in the first place.

        • FitzpatrickPhillips

But a lot of people like it too.

          • rebecasunao

Well they should aim to please both people who liked it and people who didn’t.

          • FitzpatrickPhillips

But if its there people who don’t like it will complain anyway. So its impossible to please both.

    • Suicunesol

Well, there’s 50 playable characters, so there’s plenty to choose from…

  • Hmm… are these 50 characters similar to the playable characters of Chrono Cross or Valkyrie Profile where each has a unique personality or are they just customizable grunts?

    • raymk

More or less just playable bosses and grunts. In guardian heroes all the characters from children to old men were playable in vs mode.

    • FitzpatrickPhillips

Nah, just a bunch of grunts and bosses. You unlock them after like every other chapter.

  • pgover

Oh man I am so thrilled for this game. Been a while since I played a 2D Side-Scrolling Beat-Em Up game like this. Can’t wait to get my hands on this and bust some skulls.

  • *insert catchy J-pop*

“EVERRASTING naruu sora kiseki no yakusoku!”
“EVERLASTING shiny sky miracles of promises!”

Haha I’m getting too old for anime I think.
Love the idea of a beat-em-up, it’s been too long, and I have faith in Atlus to put out a good title.

    • Hraesvelgr

Too old for mediocre pop music, maybe. That’s pretty reasonable, don’t see the problem with it.

    • One is never too old. Heck I still watch the old Looney Tunes anytime I see it on… Mmk NOW I feel old *sigh*

  • So pre-ordering, Amazon is getting it right?  Atlus only has that Canada store on the CoP site.

    • eduperondi

      same doubt here

I sent a message to Atlus USA and they answered me this:

“The bonus will be available at all retailers! Pre-order away!”

      • They updated the site now.
        I’m so Amazoning it. ^__^

  • Darkrise

I’m in despair! My empty wallet has left me in despair!!!

    • Curse you wallet! *shakes fist* (●´⌓`●)

      • s07195

After all the times it sacrificed money for your games…
        Shame on you. *shakes head*

        • Aw, Now that you put it that way I feel kinda bad *hugs wallet*

  • Onizuka Gio Hikari

Wow i didn’t have to much interest in it but now i MUST GET IT!!!

  • aoihana

Ah, happy to see that the localization will also bring the same pre-order bonuses that Japan saw. (^v^)

Though, I’m a bit disappointed with the cover art, I thought the original was much more interesting, but that’s just me. ┐(‘~`;)┌

I’m very happy that Atlus picked this up, I know a lot of people were hoping for a localization. I haven’t gotten it myself, but I wonder if the online is worldwide? In which case I may just take you all on! ლ(´ڡ`ლ)

    • zeta

minimalistic artwork this time is a no good for me.

    • Suicunesol

Yeah, the original artwork was better. >_< Maybe it wasn't enough sex appeal? Or too much maybe? (The zombie was wearing straight panties…)

      • aoihana

Interesting theory, but personally, I think the sex appeal in the localized cover is actually more apparent. Whereas on the original, the focus is more on the characters, rather than the sex appeal. So, you could be right, it could actually be that the original wasn’t sexy enough. Sex sells, you know?

Though, I think the real issue has more to do with the art style. The artwork on this cover feels more western and less anime. It has a very fantastical feel to it. It would be more marketable or safer on the shelves, too.

        • .

I agree, I definitely think the original Japanese cover is the superior one…perhaps its the amount of pajama-ish clothes and colors that reminds me of something akin to Arabian Nights like art, mirroring your opinion of the ‘fantastical’ feel your talking about.

That said, the game is still a must get for me. I’ve played Guardian Heroes that the team’s worked on before which was amazing. This game and Fire Emblem being localized is enough for me to finally buy a 3ds (nice timing too, the xl was announced). Also it says ‘image is for promotional purposes only’ so there’s a chance the cover can change, but its not really a negative if it retains that cover on final product.

  • dragoon_slayer12

I hope this gets a digital release. This is a game I would keep on me at all times. If only the vita would hurry up and get a brawler….

  • IshimaruKaito

i sooo cannot wait for this game! LOL!

  • Somehow this reminds me of that Ragnarok Online game on the DS :P

  • Asura

That song made my ears bleed.

  • Might as well buy this…I hate that my 3DS is collecting dust. My PSP is still getting thumbprinted. XD

  • Zonic505

Uuuugh, so many games I want to pre-order & this isn’t helping!

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

I’m going to play as the old man and own  Pre-ordering soon

  • Deter Pinklage

I might have to get a 3DS for this..

  • puchinri

    I think I’m going to pre-order this after work today. . .
    I can’t wait to play the game~.

The only thing I’m disappointed about, is that we’re probably going to get the same Sound part of the set that Japan got, and not a fuller version of the OST. It’d be great if we did get more tracks though. ♥

  • Some1onearth

The gameplay is what I’m interested in, but yeah…practically naked protagonist thing is putting me off getting it (if I could, being PAL territory and all). Curse you 3DS region lock.

  • Wait… so I can only play 4 characters in Story Mode? So, I have to know someone who has the game as well or have wi-fi to kick ass as some hairy fur ball or a soldier knight? No, VS CPU or something?
