Sentai Filmworks have licensed the Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky anime, according to an Anime News Network report. The series will be released both digitally and via home video this year.

The Trails in the Sky anime is produced by Japanese anime studio, Kinema Citrus, responsible for working on series such as Tokyo Magnitude and the Eureka Seven – Good Night, Sleep Tight, Young Lovers movie. It’s directed by Masaki Tachibana, who also directed the .hack//Quantum OVA.

You can watch a preview of the Japanese version of the Trails in the Sky anime in this post.

For those that have only played the first Trails In the Sky game. This anime series contains spoilers as it is the Second Chapters plot.

  • Exciting news. I’ll definitely be picking this up. Sentai Filmworks is swiftly becoming my favorite anime distributor. Cannot wait to see what they announce the licensing for next.

But isnt the anime based on the Second Chapter?  I’ve had the Japanese version for a while now but when I started to watch it, it played the sequence at the end of the first game.  While I’ll definitely double dip on the US release, I cant see myself watching it until XSEED releases Second Chapter (which I am also patiently waiting for, hopefully still on the PSP, although I will go the Steam route if thats the only way they release it).

Starts of with the very last scene of the first game, but yes, it is based on SC.

  • Although that’s cool news, since we will probably never get the 2nd or 3rd games watching the ova will just lead to a cliffhanger that will never be solved.

Why would we never get the second or third games? At the very least, they still have plans to do the second game, but it may not be for the PSP. Unless that’s changed, anyway.

      •  From what I recall the first game didn’t sell very well here. Considering how 2nd chapter is much longer, it would cost much more time and money to translate. Therefore its a pretty big risk for a smaller company.

        • Xseed said they haven’t abandoned SC, but that it will take significantly more time to translate and release. And there is an issue about releasing it as well due to it having two UMD discs—it looks like it’ll probably be a PC release, if it’s released at all, since a PSP release isn’t economical anymore.

Even though the OVA is mediocre it has Silver Will and Renne-chan in it and that’s all you really need to know lol. XD

  • Draparde

Awesome, ill be getting this for sure

  • Prinnydoom

Bought time they picked this back up ^______^ Looking forward to it since fate zero has ended

  • Interesting decision, though the OVA is basically SC-based. My hope is this will help Xseed publicity-wise, so they can get the Trails name out and have a better foundation to publish the second chapter. They haven’t canceled it, from what I’ve read on the forums, but hopefully this will help nudge it along.

If it helps the game come over. Then I am definitely going to buy this! It would make a nice little addition to my collection. =^w^=~ Though I probably won’t watch it until I get a chance to play through the game! XD Couldn’t believe it when I played the first game, beat it… and it still wasn’t over! owo;~

I hope Xseed will have some form of promotion with Sentai to help raise interest for Tits SC.
IDK if scanlations are allowed on Siliconera, but it also has a manga.
