Resident Evil 6 Footage Teams Leon And Helena Up With Sherry And Jake

By Ishaan . July 1, 2012 . 12:00pm

At their Capcom Game Jam event this weekend, Capcom showed off new trailers for Monster Hunter 4 and E.X. Troopers. They also showed new footage of Resident Evil 6, including the scene of Leon and his new partner, Helena, meeting up with Sherry Birkin—who’s now an agent herself—and Jake, Wesker’s son. All four characters team up to work together at this point in the story. You can watch the gameplay demo for this portion of the game below:

These are crossover scenes, which are new to Resident Evil 6. If you’re playing the game online, you’ll be partnered with a random player for the crossover portions of the game. Resident Evil 6 will pick strangers who happen to be at the same point in the story for crossover battles.

This will happen even if you’re already playing co-op with a friend. The crossover scenes, specifically, will pair you with a stranger to team up with. Of course, if you don’t like the idea of that, the feature can be disabled as well, and you can continue to play the crossover scenes by yourself (and three AI partners) or with a friend.

The other footage Capcom showed off at Game Jam was of Leon in an underground metro. You can watch this portion of the demo below:

Resident Evil 6 will be released on October 2nd in North America for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. A PC version will follow at a later date.

    • Luna Kazemaru

yes because they CLEARLY where NOT in RE4 or 5.

      • Solomon_Kano

Not a hint of them. Y CRAPCOM TURN MAI RESI IN2 GEARS!?

      • ArtIristic

I thought they had learned a little bit by now, but alas.

  • revenent hell

Thank god they added a disable feature here because the idea of being forced to play with some random person who may or maynot be a shitty player is non appealing,I’ll take the(probably) shit AI thanks.

I need this game already. Still need to beat 4 and get 5, so that should ease the wait, but this is one of my more anticipated games for the year.

       Sleeping Dogs

If 6 is one of them, Sleeping Dogs is definitely my most anticipated. I’ve been waiting for that one since it was still True Crime!

The only reason I can think of why Jill, Claire, and Sheva aren’t in this game is the proverbial Japanese adolescent male fear of “Obasan” characters (any Japanese woman over 30 is too old to be a cool main character anymore as considered a middle aged Aunty) while men can age as old as ever no prob.  Explains why they shoehorned Sherry back into the series..

    • Solomon_Kano

It’s not impossible, but I don’t think the reasoning is something so culturally embedded as that.

We don’t yet know that they aren’t in the game, do we? They aren’t among the main characters and they certainly aren’t playable, but it’s a safe bet that they show up here. Ada came back after all (she’s the same age as Jill, with both of them just a bit older than Claire, and Sheva being a good deal younger than all 3 at the same age as Sherry), so I wouldn’t rule them out just yet.

    • I wouldn’t say that. That might be true for some of the more otaku-esque publishers like Gust (see their comments about not wanting to let Rorona grow up), but Capcom are a fairly western company in outlook. I seriously doubt they’re too bothered about that sort of thing.

Do they want their female characters to not be old women? Of course. But their female leads are all very attractive and strong, adult women nonetheless. Just look at Helena.

Plus, Jill is the main character in Resident Evil: Revelations, so I wouldn’t say they’re ready to toss her aside based simply on her age.

Well i haven’t been paying attention much to the historical time order of these games but Leon looks really old and at this point I just find it strange that non of them are mentioned’ I highly doubt at this point they will be in the game save for maybe DLC for Mercenaries. I could see “download RE1 Jill”, “RE2 Claire” “RE5 Sheva” lol

    • Sergio helal

Actually, Jill was already over 30 years in 2007, being even older in 2009(RE5). Claire was 26 in 2005.

That means it only helps solidify my theory :P

I know folks lament the series’ move away from survival horror, but this looks pretty good to me.

Resident Evil 4 was my favorite in the series, RE5 my least favorite; RE6 looks looks like it’s set on winning me back, even if I still don’t like co-op/dragging an AI partner around.

    • DanteJones

Pretty much my exact thoughts on this. RE6 seems to be going for a nice blend of action and survival horror. If I remember right from the Capcom stream, Leon’s part will especially be focusing more on the survival horror aspect. I just hope ammo will actually be scarce and not a complete gun-fest.

  • I haven’t been paying too much attention to news about RE6, so I thought that girl was Ashley this whole time.

    • That’s when I thought when news first happened. Shirley sure as hell grew up fast.

      • Guest

She was 12 in 1998 during the events of RE2 when Leon was 21. Thats quite a while ago now. RE6 takes place 15 years later in 2013 so she’s 27 now and Leon is 36. Claire is 34. Chris is 40. Jill is 39. Sheva is 27. Rebecca is 33. Billy Coen is 41. Barry is 53.

  • IshimaruKaito

sooo um yea every time i watch gameplay it makes me want to get the game more and more!!!

  • i hope that RE 6 will cover a major ground on suspence, horror and thriller.Unlike the RE 5, likely RE4

Have to admit that the bossfight against the big guy was REALLY confusing. I felt like I never really got why this and that thing was happening and how much was due to my own input. For a while there, I actually thought the bullets weren’t even effective and you should just try to outrun the beast. Banter was pretty nice though, in a cheesy action-movie kind of way.

As for the other video… man, those are some awkward zombies. They’re more like fangirls, mobbing Leon on all sides, then just stopping shy like they’re trying to gather their thoughts and deliver this stunning love-confession… and then they just blow it all and jump on him one at a time. Also, I inda hope that sometimes, when too many zombies overwhelm you, they’ll actually properly MOB you and not just wait while you finish one QTE, then another, then another… it kinda takes the edge out of encountering large hordes of zombies if they’re all gonna attack like mooks in a kung-fu movie, you know? Also, that clipping and them jerky transitions between animation frames.
